you dont need to be a private investigator to plug a HDD in to another computer up, essentially use plugged in a non passworded thumb drive lol nice thing you did for the family though.

for Forensics, preserving without messing the SAM table, is crucial but literally you can spoof that password with Ophcrack in minutes, create an alternate user with admin rights, etc etc etc, no brute force, no out-of-the-box heuristics

Take it out back and put it out of its misery, then bury it. Federal Pacific (FPE) went out of business in the 1980s and their breaker boxes & breakers haven't been up to code here in most parts of the USA since the 1990s. Sure, there is "grandfathered in" in many places, but that dies the minute another circuit is added. You might be able to find new third party breakers for an FPE box, but two breakers will probably cost the same as a new box and set of breakers from GE, Square D, or Siemens. Get that breaker box replaced PDQ. Then, after replacing it, Google why FPE went out of business.

Thank you sir for your honesty. When I get a pc I normally just wipe it clean preferably with hirens but if I do find sensitive documents or pictures I try to let the previous owner know about it and let them make the decision if they want the stuff or can I just delete it all

Pretty sure you just just need to set it up as not the boot drive put it as a secondary hdd and start a pc that has windows and boom you immediately gain all access to it lol
