Weird coincidence, I had just finished watching The Elephant Man yesterday and was thinking about watching his other works. The ending of The Elephant Man when John Merrick lies down to sleep is one of the most genuinely sad endings in film history. Now we have a sadder ending.

I had the privilege of meeting Tony last year and then seeing him perform. It has a huge honour that I'll never forget. Rest in peace Tony😢

The best of his generation. He must have been a brilliant scholar to have come off a council estate and win a place at Cambridge back in the 1970s. He seemed to try his utmost to present himself in the best light he could given how life had damaged him. Sadly, i wont get to meet him at one of his quirky one man shows. Hope he has found peace. Goodbye.
