Free Diving the SS Gulfland aka Norman's Wreck in Jupiter, Florida! We find a Goliath Grouper!
Calm summer seas are perfect for adventuring out on the open ocean!
On this last day of July, we take our trusty dinghy out of our home inlet, the "treacherous" Jupiter Inlet, and head north to explore an underwater wreck! A WW2 tanker named the SS Gulfland.
Here are some interesting facts about this ship that I found on scubaboard.com:
The wreckage as it sits today is the bow section of the GulfLand tanker, built in 1918 by the New York Ship Corporation of Camden, New Jersey. She was 391 feet long, had a 51 foot beam and displaced 5,277 gross tons. She met her fate on October 21, 1943.
The GulfLand caught fire after it collided with the GulfBelle on October 21, 1943 off Lake worth Inlet. At the time she was one route to from Beaumont Texas to Jacksonville, FL with a cargo of aviation fuel. Both vessels has been running without lights to avoid German submarines (in accordance with the wartime blackout). The bow of the GulfBelle had sliced into the port bow of the GulfLand and both ships caught fire as did the water around them."
The two ship eventually separated and the GulfLand drifted north and grounded on the wreck of the SS Republic which had been torpedoed several months prior. After several days she freed herself from the Republic and drifted aground near Hobe Sound. She burned for 53 days off Hobe Sound. 37 men from the GulfLand perished in the incident. What remains of the GulfLand is about 150 feet of bow section which broke apart during the salvage operation.

May 2023 A Lesser Electric Ray can deliver a shock with a peak voltage of about 14 to 37 volts, which they use to stun prey and to defend themselves. That looks pretty close to shore and should be for being only 29 ft if that's what I heard right. Would love to check that out sometime.

Are there boats or jet skis you have to watch out for?
Hi. It is a swim only area but you are swimming near the boat channel. You should always be careful and swim with a dive flag. I am a tour guide and can provide you with all the equipment necessary.
This is the Inlet ….is there a name for the park ? I don’t wanna confuse it with Dubois
Hello! This was filmed across from Dubois where the private clubhouse is at. We used paddle boards to get there and then swim with the boards tied to leashes. It can be dangerous if you don’t know how to time the tides. ALWAYS dive with a dive flag.

The clarity hasn't been so great these past couple of years, it's kind of annoying. Sometimes I wonder if it was the covid rush.
It seems to me to be a combination of all the weather we've had and the erosion. That with them constantly having to dredge the inlets and re-nourished the beaches doesn't help the water quality.

I don’t have coordinates. I just live in the area and know where it’s at.
Wow your were in Jupiter and didn't snorkel with sharks!!!!
There were definitely sharks there! We just excited about seeing the Goliath this time!
I am heading to Jupiter in April! This will be some good free diving between scuba diving! Great video!
Did you guys go before high tide ?
Yes. It was an exceptionally clear day. It’s always up to Mother Nature.
I have visited that place and it is a great place to explore the underwater world. I found so many fish species there that I’ve never seen before!

Many of the artificial reef structures at Blue Heron Bridge were built by REEF CELLS. They have built reef structures for FWC, NOAA, UM, DARPA, ORA etc. in the Fl Keys, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Barbuda, Antigua and other sites.

Many of these reef structures were built by Reef Cells.
Most of these artificial reef structures were built by ReefCells.

Just curious, Have you thought about getting some freediving fins ? It works really well when freediving deep in the ocean

@@EbbandFlowAdventures Oooh. You should try some that are made by leader fins. They are amazingly comfortable and very easy to swim in. I recommend getting the "ice fins" in white color. They look really nice underwater. You can match them together with a white colored mask.

Were you using an gas powered compressor as your air supply or an scuba tank ?? It's always best to check if you have enough gas or enough air in the tank before you dive down. It's a good thing you weren't really deep
It is a brownie’s third lung. The guys on the boat turned it off because they thought I was up already. You can’t go very deep with these. The hose won’t reach.

Gorgeous! About how far out from the beach did you go?
Thank you. Hard for me to say how far out it was. When you are looking at the small key (Waterlemon) it seems far but because there isn’t much current there, I was able to swim to it easily using fins, of course. I can float forever. We cirlcle the key twice, each time seeing more and more! My GoPro died before I was able to capture a sea turtle swimming with us. Can’t wait to someday swim that area again!
