Easy DIY Homemade LiveWell For Transporting Live Fish
In this episode of CityBilly Adventures, we're putting together a homemade livewell with components that we bought on Amazon. A friend of mine is getting ready to drain his pond so it can be dredged next summer, and he's given us an open invitation to take out as many fish as we want for fish fries, or relocation. Our pond already has a healthy bass population, so today we're focusing on catching bluegill to supplement our pond.
We bought two 55 gallon, heavy-duty storage totes from the hardware store. These will be our transport tanks. Then we added a water-conditioning chemical to (a) remove impurities from the water, (b) keep the fish calm during transport, and (c) help the hook wounds and slime coat heal. Finally we used a portable livewell kit called the Marine Metal Super Saver II. It's essentially a 12-volt sump pump that attaches to a marine battery. It pumps water through a tube at the top of the tank, spraying back into the water and creating bubbles.
The whole CityBilly family helped catch and transport about a dozen bluegill back to our lake!

Building A 150 Yard Shooting Range In Our Backyard
มุมมอง 8722 หลายเดือนก่อน
We're building a 150 yard shooting range in our backyard in this episode of CityBilly Adventures! One of the most important parts of building a gun range is having a proper backstop. Our property slopes downhill to a lake, then goes back uphill into a large wooded area. The clearing on the hill is a perfect backstop for our range. Over the years, we've slowly cleared more brush and added more t...

This video has been percolating since 2020 when we built this massive, lean-to style shed to store firewood. Our shed has four separate bays and holds over six cords of firewood. I wanted to wait until the shed was completely full before I released the video, and here we are, four years later! Turns out this thing holds A LOT of firewood! Wonderful video - thanks for sharing. PS CityBillies need their eyes. Please invest in safety glasses when using your power saws!! 👀👓
@craniumrex4614 Thanks for watching!
Love it! Loved the ending 😂
Thanks!!
How did you take the brick hearst off?
Angle grinder, sledge hammer, and elbow grease!
@CityBillyAdventures thanks!
I can't help but think that muddy bottom was your enemy all along. Those pipes should have been fine with they were properly glued. My theory is this: with the reduced water level, in conjunction with the muddy bottom, you were sucking mud. That's why you were getting spats of black water before it died. The mud choked the flow, and the air had opportunity to vent back up the pipe like a gas can does. I think all the extra stuff you did just bought you a little more time (suction time) for it to clear a hole enough for water to begin flowing before the pipe vented.
This is impressive, how much did materials cost?
Thanks! I don't have the exact number but around $500 I think. The doors were the most expensive part
So when you added the jack stud to the 3 stud "wall" you built on the right side, did you have to add another stud to the back to make the drywall flush? I can't quite tell, but seems like I'd need another 2x4 in the back of the closet to make the drywall sit flush . Hope this makes sense.
Yes you are 100% correct. I didnt think of this during construction until it was time to put up the drywall. And then I forgot again when I made the video. 🤦♂️ Good catch!
The bed is very beautiful great job. I need someone to build me a bed with a higher headboard and a storage cedar chest with 2 drawers for the footboard.
So what fish are in that creek
It's a very small creek. Mostly creek chubs and some small bluegill. Hoping someday to dig it much deeper and add trout
So it dosen't have trout add some brown trout they live in those creeks where i live in the balkans tho in the balkans we do not have bluegills and creek chubs but we have european chubs
Whereabouts on the lake was this?
Lone Mountain area
What size is the closet??
I laughed a lot with the numerous takes, all the way to 3,001 but frankly that's my life in a nutshell (including the screaming and frustration) Well done for making it work !
Showing the setbacks made the triumph so much better
How do you measure the opening for closet doors before you put the drywall and trim on?
The instructions on new closet doors should tell you the required size of the "rough opening". This is the space between the edges of the 2x4s when you frame in your closet. Add one inch to this measurement to account for 1/2 inch of drywall on each end to get your final opening. This total measurement should be at least the width of the new doors, and probably just slightly bigger. Trim doesn't really go inside the door opening and shouldn't factor into your measurement.
Do you have written plans/material list for this that you could share?
2:56 best I can do. This video was more of a "big idea" than a step-by-step how-to. You're about the 50th person to ask though so my bad on that
Hello there, How do you measure for the door opening before adding the trims? Thaks!
Hello! I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, can you be more specific?
Did You make it with woodprix instructions?
how long are 2x6 on the head board and foot board?
35-1/2 & 16-1/4. These can be changed if you want the headboard/footboard taller or shorter
@@CityBillyAdventuresThanks!, and how many inches is the gap between the floor and the 2x4 on the bottom of the head board?
20" for the headboard and 7" for the footboard. These measurements depend on how tall your mattress/boxspring are
The clear coat is a great idea
Just as a hint, next time when you use come-along (like in 15:47 ) use a hook to attach to the chain and roll up a line over the roller in a hook. This will give you double force so you won't need to put so much force to roll up.
Good vid, gave me some good ideas bro 👍
Thanks!
I'm building a lake also and need some pointers is there a way to contact you.
My email is in the "about" tab
wow! Impressive.

You near cleavland right?
Im originally from dayton
@tomspettel3646 yep
Low key epic.
I need to do this out in a field that I want to put an airstrip on but wasn’t sure how it gets done. I will need 60’ of 36” culvert I figure. Watching this gives me an idea on how it’s done. Great video. Thanks.
Good luck with your project!
Was fish passage considered in culvert design and placement???
Not really. Our creek is only a few inches deep most of the time so the only fish are minnows / creek chubs / crayfish etc. But the pipe sits slightly lower than the creek bottom so water still flows even when the water level is low.
You did very nice work though. Be well and blessed.
Thanks!
Qhat was the cost break down
looks amazing. great job.
Thanks!
How u aren't missing any digits or limbs is beyond me 😂😂
The difference between a funny story and a tragedy is often only a few seconds or a few inches haha
Great video! How much for an autograph?
Why you didnt demolish the bricks to open up some space?
That was our original plan, but there's a cinder block chimney directly behind the bricks that goes through the roof, so we wouldn't gain much. Taking out the cinder blocks would have been way too big of a project.
Where is part 2? THANKS!
I wish I was out there working on it now! Unfortunately other projects have taken priority for now. We just finished a movie theater in our basement, and I'm currently working on a miter saw station in the shop. Then hopefully I'll have time to work on drawers and a router table for the outfeed table 🤞
Can you walk us through permits for this?
I'm sure some areas would want a permit but honestly that never even crossed our minds. Your county building department would be where to get one.
I asked about permits when I moved to my small village in NY. The "code enforcement officer" / Police Chief / Post Master laughed. He said the village hadn't issued a permit in over 10 years.
The ending 😂😂😂
Looks great! The only, and I mean ONLY thing I noticed is that muzzle device looks like it’s threaded for a suppressor. If it’s never going to be suppressed or it’s just a standard flash hider then no big deal, but if it’s a suppressor host, it’s a good practice to tape the muzzle device up. It will avoid the chance (albeit a slim chance) that it could affect the suppressor lockup just enough to create a baffle strike. Ask me how I know😂
You're speaking to the master of learning about expensive mistakes by personally making them haha. My buddy is adding a suppressor so hopefully he doesn't have any issues 🤞
@@CityBillyAdventures if he hits the muzzle device with some paint remover and gets that paint off of there, shouldn’t be any concerns with a suppressor lol
Good point
I just use a coat hanger for suspending the rifle, it means there's a small spot that gets missed, but oh well, I'm not going for pretty. The counter shading is something I'd never heard mentioned before and is something I'll be adding.
how do to this. 1st step: go sell your firearm because this is the dumbest shit a person can do to a firearm. Paint is not made for guns. DO NOT do this. I've been a gunsmith and Cerakote applicator for 10 years and I can't even begin to tell you how many people absolutely fucked their guns up with this dumb shit. Just dont. Find a Cerakote applicator in your area and get it done properly. Again. Paint is NOT for firearms. there are tolerances you'll fuck up. mechanisms you'll gum up. the paint wont stay in place very long. when the barrel gets hot, the paint will fail, etc etc. there are a million reasons this is a super stupid move. But go on, you were saying...
Hey! Not even 48 hours in and we've snagged our first angry comment section expert! Sir you are clearly way smarter than me, but that's not that hard to do. But stop wasting precious time educating my dumbass and call all the special forces and police tactical units that have been rattle-canning their guns for years and let them know they're all idiots too! Side note: Cerakote is a very nice product.
Weird, people have managed to rattle can their rifles for years without issues. It's almost as if covering up the internals prevents them from being gummed up. If you actually use your rifle cerakote will get messed up too. The nice thing about paint is that when it wears down you can just reapply it in a few minutes and be good to go. But hey, I get it, you have your business to think of so you would much rather people come to you and give you money rather than just take care of it themselves
Breaking news: cerakote applicator says to stop painting your guns in 10 minutes with $20. Instead, let him have your gun for weeks and hundreds of dollars
Did you consider using a dark green base to match the fern and leaves(not saying you did it qrong, just curious?) If you did what motivated you to use a light base color? I do like that dark top and light bottom -- that was a smart move...
Depending on how many stencils and additional colors you use, the base color usually ends up being the least-seen color. I wanted the gun to be mostly dark, so I went light first, then dark, with the OD on top. The OD is still dark enough but that color "pops" the most.
Close up shot of finished product would have been good
That's fair. Missed opportunity by me. I was hoping the final shot / conclusion would be a good representation but it was really sunny and didn't turn out like I'd hoped.
countershading is overlooked or never mentioned in too many of these types of videos
Lots of "fashion" paint jobs and not enough function
@@CityBillyAdventures ikr! it's almost as if some people have never looked at things in nature or been outdoors.
☝️exactly. Too busy playing Call of Duty with purple tiger gun camo and talking shit on a headset haha
Great video!
The fancy gun did most of the work 😘
@@CityBillyAdventures let's not take away from that fancy guy doing the painting
He is pretty hot
Left the head of the pipe inside a water just a little bit so it doesn't suck all of that mud
110 mil black water pipe and you will be able to do it because there's no cracks it will run due to the reason you drive it to the pipes that is why it's sucking air in the water is not running
Why the concrete rip rap only on one side of the culvert?
1. I didnt have enough for both sides 🤪 2. The downstream side isn't affected by erosion quite as much 3. I'm hoping to add one or two more lengths of pipe on the downstream side someday and I didn't want to have to remove riprap to install more pipe But mostly because I didn't have enough
Do you have the plans? I need it for Cali king
2:56 best I can do. You'll have to adjust your dimensions after you measure your mattress.
Empty my pond 🎉🎉🎉 thank you for the info
Rip rap both sides so erosion doesn’t take out your downstream edge…hardface upstream with larger rock too
I'm hoping to eventually add another section or two of pipe on the downstream side. After that I'll beef up the erosion control
very cool! Im trying to figure out how best to make an Office/Bar. I have limited space in my boat. This gives me some ideas.
Thanks! Good luck!

Hey, I am in Ohio as well and I am finally going to do the culvert bridge to open up my back acres to vehicle traffic. This is a great visual of my idea, I am going to use a 36" pipe and the ground is closer to level but other than that pretty much the same steps. Hope it all worked out. Subscribed.
So far ours is holding up great! It's been awesome being able to access the property beyond our creek. Good luck with your project 🤙 #OhioAgainstTheWorld
Ya that muddy bottom is no joke. When I was a kid, went swimming in a small lake dove down then pushed off the bottom. My legs sunk in the bottom up to my knees, had the damndest time working my legs out, damn near drowned. I can still "feel" that freaking cold mud my legs sunk into. If you're at a lake swimming make sure you tell everyone don't push off the bottom and why they shouldn't. Really surprised someone hasn't done a documentary on this danger.
