Question: You’re sucking oil out of the dipstick pipe. Does that pipe go all the way down to the oil pan (don’t know the exact term for this in English) bottom? And is that with all bigger outboards? I use a hose with a pipe mounted to reach the lowest part and get as much out as possible.

When measuring resistance there must be a lot! Good find and respect that you advise to change the complete cabling!

Yes, thats new technology. My, Dutch, 22 year old cabin sloop has cables and hydraulic steering. I can repair all those things myself with only a wrench and a bit set as screwdriver. The change of it breaking down is far less then this new systems. Although I find this new technology fantastic (joystick steering etc.) I’m very happy to be able to solve problems myself when underway. But, it’s good to see that there are mechanics who know all those new systems and can repair them!

5:06 , ever thought of bringing a inflatable baby bathtub to put under the engine when working above water? It has saved me a few times when working on lower ends or engine parts. Takes a few seconds to inflate but brings so much time, not having to get a spare bolt or nut or, worse, another part!

Really interesting to see how the computer system can isolate and identify problems. Those joysticks are wicked expensive if they're out of warranty (ask me how I know), and my 8-year old is working but gets very sticky when twirled. Sad to se how a brand new joystick is faulty and that Mercury apparently shipped a motor missing the rubber exhaust part.

Thanks for showing us a typical pair of service appointments. Not every appointment requires a major repair. Except on my boat!

So they are screwed together in China. Big deal. For the folks that don't like that, the complaint seems to be quality related. Frankly, I think they do a great job assembling things in the far east. Many of their products are superior to others made around the world. Employ underage kids? Doubtful so that's not a concern. Communist country so boycott? OK, I see that argument so that's valid. All in all looks like a great day cruiser for the intercoastal. A couple of things I would add would be a deck tv and two small cabin tv's. Oh, and a microwave. The one in this video looks like an afterthought (I'm sure it was). Power cats supposedly don't need a Seakeeper, so until proven otherwise, I believe it. That saves almost a hundred grand right there. It needs a Reverso engine flushing system which is a cheap add. The dual cabin/head arrangement is a big big plus. All air conditioned which is perfect. Also it needs the twin 400's.

Nice work. I question use of RED Loctite at 10.30 however. That will make any future removal a major pain (as per comment from one of your commenters below) - I would opt for BLUE here.

Hey I'm a Marine Mechanic Apprentice and I was wondering what are the most important/best tools to start with in the trade. I mostly work on yamaha jet boats and outboards as I'm at a certified Yamaha dealer. I'm actually in the middle of rigging a 55ft water taxi in Baltimore with twin 150s, replacing a waterpump on a mercrusier, and just started on an older johnson outboard lower unit swap and man the bolt holding shifter cable on that's tucked way into the powerhead is gonna be a bitch to get back in. but I love this job I've been doing it for about a year now and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Great electronics video. It seems every time I do a troubleshoot for a marine stereo issue, 90% of the time the stereo (or another component like the amp) needs replacing. I've installed and worked with every major brand of marine stereo over the last 30 years and none of them seem to last. The newer ones that are more compact and don't have a CD player, seem to do a bit better, including the Fusion brand.

Hi Justin, nice to see you dealing with what might be a couple of simple repairs. Any chance you can clone yourself and send your clone to RI? Two of the power steering pumps in my Boston Whaler 350 Realm just crapped out and my joystick is acting very wonky. Last summer a cam cover on one of the Verado 350's developed a crack and it took more than a month to get a new one delivered. Boats!

Hello justin, did you know about the service bulletin from simrad, about the complaint of problems with the display go black, and restart. In europe, you can get a new one for free whitin a specified serieal nummer range. Grts johan

the hoses for the engines here look like 3/8's based on the fitting size ... reverso recommends 1/2 to the engines ... can you recall why 3/8 was used for the hoses here or does 3/8 affect performance really ?

What about when it’s doesn’t come up? Monitor completely off & no steering?

Justin, up here in Ohio, our Marinemax sales has now moved in with the Skipper Buds boat dealership which has locations in Wisc, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. So instead of just offering boats Marine Max sells, they offer other lines of boats that Skipper Buds sell. Super helpful video! Just replaced the starter on my F250xca... with your help! BUT, I'm getting 1 to 2 seconds of rapid clicking ahead of the engine turning over. Batteries are fully charged and check with a load tester. Checking all connections between the batteries and engine now. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
