The reference to the "Teutonic Order" here, doesn't of course mean the actual Order that Poland was fighting against in the middle ages, but Prussia/Germans who were occupying Poland during the Partitions in the 19/20th century. While both the Prussian and the Russian Partitions were terrible (most uprisings were actually organised against Russia, because while both were brutal, The Prussian one was much better ecomomically. The Russian one on the other hand was extremely poor and backwards. To this day it's still the poorest part of Poland bacause it was at such disadvantage after the Partitions)- this song was written at the territory of the Prussian occupation. Fun fact, during the communism, Rota was being sung with a changed words- instead of "Teutonic windstorm", there was "Soviet windstorm".

The Rota was written in 1908 when Poland did not exist on world maps. In 1918 Poland regained independence after 123 years of non-existence.
