Sunn O))), Boris and Jesse Sykes perform The Sinking Belle at the Forum, London 2007. Best gig I've probably ever been to. This song is beautiful.

Just managed to get the last minute or so of Right Now from Korn. I would've recorded the whole thing, but I'd already used most of my memory card space up D':

There's the whole set of this on Mixcloud. GIYF.
so to the people saying harmony rhythm and melody are what's important to a piece, I'd urge you to listen to drum symphonies or impressionist era music with no time signature in place. Or maybe even, a singer who's by herself unaccompanied. Although each is missing one or more of the above elements, it does not mean that it doesn't arise an emotion in you, which ultimately is the purpose of music. Also, it may be true that this doesn't create an emotion in you, similarly to how classical music won't create emotion in a Nicki Minaj fan who thinks she's found the pinnacle of music. Opinion is subjective. Again, Rhythm harmony and melody are really just terms given to experimentations with sound that people began to make. By pushing out of each boundary people discovered more combinations of sounds that arose feelings in them. This is just an extension of that.
Not everyone likes the same things. Noise can wake emotions etc like "normal" music does. It's called taste.
I agree, LOUDER!!!
It sucked when his amplifier was broken from 0:00- 5:39
meat is murder
Oh, you're one of THOSE people.
It's a song by the Noise artist Merzbow.
Matters to me because I want that first song.
Is all this improvised or is he playing pre-made tracks?
0:28 some1 shouts yeah... wow
Wrong note at 2:40!
<3
I don't really know what to make of merzbow's live performances, I love his albums though. Id probably go just to get a different perspective of what he does.
Don't contradict him.
what the fuck is this? you call this music? it's just noise, listen to nicki minaj, now that's music. i can put a mic on my butt and make better music than this....
It's noise art. It incorporates musical elements sometimes, but is fundamentally not necessarily musical. In my opinion it is much better artistically than a lot of the music proper that is being released in the mainstream.
So most folk music is not music as it has no "on-time beat"? What about jazz written in 7/4? Bands with no drummer? A singer in a coffee shop? Which dictionary is this? There is a melody, you can hear repetition clearly (which creates a BPM for much of the track and informs the rest) Do you know what melody means? "Noise" vs. "noise music." Saying "noise music" is like saying "heavy metal music" - it makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. Noise. Capital N.
People pay to watch this shit? it's bad enough when people pay to see skrillix press play on his laptop but at least he dances around. This guy gets up after pressing play to go to the bathroom.
Music - The art or science of combining vocal or sounds to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. This in particular "producing beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion." Rhythm, melody, and harmony are all mere aspects. Merzbow finds his unique voice and beauty of form, harmony & expression of emotion by abandoning conventional means. Some people get it, a lot more don't. In a sense, he is no different to "regular" musicians except he uses noise as his voice
lol
Brohoof!
First off, let me say that I'm an experienced guitarist and singer-songwriter with a pretty open mind when it comes to music. Now I'm not trying to cause an uproar or offend anyone here, but most of Merzbow's work is devoid of any real rhythm, melody, or harmony - which are the three things that technically make music...well...music. I get that everyone has their own interpretation of what is and isn't "music" and that's fine, but I'm just throwing that out there...
why i love japan, because masami akita. why i create my youtube account like this, because masami akita. you really make my day
>dude is sitting down while he is djing >Sure sounds like deadmau5 in here.
Really wish I could listen to him more then I do. I really think he's an inspirational figure, though I tend to enjoy his collaborations the most. His work Boris and especially his guest appearance on SYR Vol. 8 is breathtaking.
@X3nonDubstep Except there's actually a clear rhythm and even a melody in there that I could actually write as sheet music.
@rydubz7 Luciano Berio is a legend for example, not this shit, sorry
@rydubz7 ...What if YOU'RE the one being conned and manipulated?
It is fair for a person to say this is not music because you can only put value on something that relates to you. Personally, I've been a fan for over 13 years. It's like telling a fly that a certain book is worth reading and will change his life. It may be of value to one person but not another.
@rydubz7 I was blind once, but now i can see.
@rydubz7 Its noise by definition isnt it? Embrace that.
@rydubz7 Just to make a specific recommendation, 'Noise/Music' by Paul Hegarty is a good read. I used it as a major source for a lot of my Uni work, most of which involved Merzbow (and 'Noise' more generally). Great read, excellent book.
@sjaartrol simple: pretension.
@rydubz7 must be fun to be as pretentious as you. You do realise you sound like a total cliche, right?
@Fanchus He's BEHIND the speakers.
@sjaartrol I'll tell you what man, look up "john cage on silence" and "stockhausen on sound" which are two instances of contemporary classical composers talking about sound in general, and while you're at it look up "people who do noise" which is a documentary on the portland oregon noise scene. These three things really helped to form how I see music and sound in general especially of course the first two videos.
@sjaartrol Because not everything you listen to has to be music...
i can hear the fukin noise & i like it
I'm really intrigued why people listen to this. Either they might think it's just cool, because they pretend to like something which others think is just shocking and noise. Or they are in some way automasochistic. Really, why do people listen to this? Oh, and i do like some more extremer music, like breakcore, which i can appreciate in some circumstances. But this really is only a flow of noizy sounds.
you can see in his eyes that this guy has a lot of issues...
@TheTundraTerror Yes, and be glad that English is an international language so you don't have to learn more then one language
@squezey1 You have to separate playable music to noise-effects. According to me this is NOT music but rather effects. edIT use those effects in their music while this is just sounds with lots of effects. There are plenty of musicians who use this kind of noise-sounds in their songs, but this is just effects. He even go away from the mixingtable and computer and just let the effects go crazy on eatchother. I get the "It's how the music FEELS" but I think it should be "It's how the effects FEELS"
@TheTundraTerror hahahaha!!! made me lol so bad! THEY DONT GET US! hahaha crybaby
@maxabeles and by u people i mean everyone that thinks this Isn't music. Get over your self.
@TheTundraTerror but the funny thing is that there IS melody and rhythm in ANY sound. So it is (if u people could fucking stretch their neurons a little) traditional musical elements in his work, if not somewhat buried ha.
I was choking on sound. I am epileptic, and thought I was about to sieze up LOL. Hot shit 4 real, the true neo-classical music if i must put an elitist twist on it. LOL
@lumukanda Of course i can, it's called CHAOS.
Most people don't get it. It's all in the texture. It's how the music FEELS.
