A couple years ago, before I started studying I worked a short time for Amazon (delivery). They did not want us to hang around with each other not while working and not after the work day. When our shifts were finished we normally gathered at the parking lot for 10-15 minutes, exchanging about our days (bad and good customers, work related problemes, etc.). After some time all gatherings not strictly business related on amazon property were forbidden. Then we met outside the gate, but after a few days they also forbid these gatherings (technically illegal, because a) not in working hours b) on public property). I always wondered about the reason, while most anti employees practices at Amazon made sense out of a corporate sight, I never figuered out why they were so strict about these gatherings. Now it makes sense.

Unions are a fkn cancer. They just want to take their cut from employees. I live in a country heavly controlled by unions. One single union (transport workers union) can literally immobilize my entire country if they decide to go on strike (and they do it!). Imagine trying to go to work without bus, trains and every single employee who works with something with wheels on it wont work. It basically freezes our entire country. Yup, thats the power of unions. On the other hand, they have so much political power that they force politicians to pass bills that favour them, like making mandatory for all employees to belong to a union. What union? the only one that exists for your activity of course! Can I say no? no. Can I stop paying 3% of my salary to the union? no, its deducted from your employee before you even get the money. Trust me. You dont want unions. You want representatives on congress. You can donate to NGOs that fight for whatever rights you want. Just dont fall for unions. All they do is ruin economies.

I worked at Walmart once, and made the mistake of mentioning the phrase "living wage," and was hauled into a tribunal of a dozen higher-ups within days wanting to grill me over a till shortage of 26 cents. LITERALLY. I was insulted not only over the implication of being a thief, but being a petty and incompetent one. These dicks need a big union to kick the living shit out of them!
