In this experiment, Maggie Walker Chemistry Plus students utilized Vernier temperature sensors and LabQuest2 interfaces to explore rates of evaporation for various organic liquids. Students made inferences about evaporation rates for each liquid (prior to experimentation) based on predicted intermolecular force strength. Students were then able to obtain, interpret, and share a large amount of ...

Going to my first gsmun this march, gsmun XXV, crazy how long gsmun has been around
The basketball coach name was Pierce Callaham,he was basketball coach at Maggie Walker and then Marshall-Walker.
Thank you, young Govvies, for taping and sharing this. Mr. Wilkes is a master teacher, and he and Mr. Tharpe a primary source on the history of GSGIS. Here he shows tact and truth about the grassroots teaching origins at Governor's without discounting TJ (See _The School that Refused to Die_), which gave birth to the location at Maggie Walker. I'll always be a Viking, just the same. Old times there are not forgotten, and I applaud the faculty that keep this program strong. On ne sait jamais comment les choses vont s'arranger !
Kiss an ass
I really enjoyed this presentation. Brought back great memories and many laughs! I also recall another lockdown that happened a few years later -- this one was during the holiday assembly, so we were all stuck in the auditorium. The jazz band simply improvised, and I recall putting my arm around some friends, swaying back and forth and caroling.
Fascinating overview of the history of the school, and its impact on the community. Thanks Mr. Tharp.
Really enjoyable talk Mr. Wilkes. It brought me right back to AP US. Its a testament to how well you guys did that I never felt the uncertainty that permeated the first 10 years. Quite the opposite, in fact. GSGIS just felt like home.
my thoughts exactly. i never felt any uncertainty (apart from whether or not the roof leaks would completely flood the building). the faculty of gov school did an excellent job presenting smiles and confidence needed to let us students do our work without worry about the financial and political uncertainties of the school.
Oh, and the serial killer is [SPOILER ALERT] Jay Mohr dressed in drag as his mother... Yeah.
It's a morality tale about parent who convince their children to lose their virginity to SAVE them from a serial killer. The name of their high school, the town and the movie: Cherry Falls. (See the movie just to see the school mascot painted on TJ's gym floor, the "Fighting Cherries"!)
Didn't both Mr. Wilkes and Mr. Tharp have cameos in the GSGIS production of 1984? :-)
Hmmmmm... John Wilkes has 154 views, and Mr. Tharp...not as many. :-)
Hal--Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video. It was the next best thing to being there.
Mr. Rothman and I are still kicking around the idea of a reunion viewing of Cherry Falls. (Mr. Tharp: Remember the flyer that went out to explain the movie to parents? "It's a morality tale...")
Those teacher predictions were just a little off. *Cough, cough* j*o*s*e*p*h* *b*r*o*w*n*
I lost the actual mic clip, but I thought that using a binder clip was very Governor's School. :)
really gunna miss you, mr. sorrentino. Really loved having you as a teacher and i wish you the best

Wow - I had an awesome time in that class (2005). Not to mention, completed my best school project there. Best of luck to Todd and Maggie Walkers' future cinematographers. I encourage the Class of 2013 to seriously consider taking DigVid if it comes back for senior year. By the way, has there ever been talk of opening DigVid as an elective for all students?
That's harsh, dude. They'll all be getting college scholarships way before you. Not that that matters...
There was a lot going on that day-emotions were running high.
