Cyclists should be forced to pay fines for breaking the road rules like everyone else.

We drivers have nothing against cyclists who obey the rules of the road, we do however have everything against rude, entitled cyclists who take unnecessary risks and disregard the rules of the road. We've barely got through January and already I've nearly run over two cyclists who jumped red lights into moving traffic. Before the toxic cyclists on here say it's not always safe to stop at a red light I have to say one thing, bullshit! It's always safer to wait in traffic that isn't moving due to a red light than it is to ride into moving traffic. Not every driver has my fast reactions and you'll end up under a vehicle if you continue to ignore red lights.

Clip spring adjustment works only one way. Easier to clip in, need to be more positive to get out. Easier to unclip (which I think you are after) means clipping in can be more tricky. You’ll soon find middle for diddle. Plus as soon as those clips wear slightly, scenario 2 is worse. As someone else mentioned. SPD is better than SPD-SL. Especially seeing as they’re better for walking. SPD-SL for the TDF look; where there are no cafe stops 😇

Its not practical to employ clipped pedals for casual cycling on uk roads where you will need to pay most attention too before stopping......in a race ,its ok,because you start at the line and dont stop for 90km+ The same its not practical to ride a bike that you will feel every crack in the road on,get a mountain bike with oversized tyres.....u will thank me

I prefer SPD pedals and mtb boa type shoes for all riding as you can still walk in them.

Ashley, here's a tip for everyone. Looking over your shoulder at any following driver before moving to the to the right gives any switched on driver notice that you are intending to move, then give a clear arm signal. 9 times out of 10 they'll give room and let you in. You'll need to practice this next bit... When you look over your right shoulder let go of the right handlebar and let your arm swing back and your shoulders will twist as you look behind. If you keep hold of the bars with both hands your bike will swerve to the right!

Road SPDs are pointless unless you’re racing, you’re far better off with MTB style. Easier to get into, and you don’t walk like a duck off the bike!

The whole point of a lapel mic is that you hide the cable...

I use a pair of rubber cleat covers for my SPD-SL cleats when not clipped in- they extend the life of the cleats as they don't wear down as much when walking and more importantly give grip so you are less likely to end up on your back side walking on a tiled or wooden floor!

Excellent. The pedals will be second nature in no time and I guarantee that you will enjoy riding the road bike even more. Your pedals are probably equally as good as Shimano spd-sl ones for half the price (allen key fixing bolt is pretty standard btw)👍

The problem with those cleats is you walk like a duck, they wear out quickly if you have to walk. Using Wahoo powerlink pedals for a sports bike which are better and longerlasting , and SPD pedals on the runaround as need to walk .

I ride a road bike, but don't see the point of clipless pedals. They're such a faff and the science shows they don't really provide any efficiency benefit, especially if you're just cycling for leisure/commuting.

I don't know how companies can sell these as 'road bike' pedals; as reflectors on pedals are required by law... So you would be legal to use them on the road 🤔

If you really want to get people out of cars, don't teach them how to drive, genius.

I'm a cyclist and a van driver.. it irks me when someone pulls out like that when im cycling, but nobody can say they haven't made a similar mistake. Like you said, most people in that situation would just ease off a little, let the car in front, maybe swear under their breath, and crack on. It's no biggie. We all make mistakes.

Joking aside though, Ashley, I have reservations about this equipment. The unexpected - even for an observant 🚴 - could leave insufficient time to unattach yourself. I would far prefer to part company with a Bike instead of having it land on me after an RTC. Stay safe out there.

Please don't forget to TWIST OUT otherwise you'll be trapped in them.. hopefully you won't have any leg/knee issues - these pedals can put your legs/joints into a tight bind soo be wary of that! it's got to be COMFORTABLE 👍

Dont ride in worn cleats . Years ago before start of a race warming up went to do a sprint ended up in front wheel wobble then next thing bang straight on my face sliding down the road. 2 marshals come and a nurse gping home stopped and was try to see if i was confused as its a sign of concussion. Definitely wasn't the best day requiring constant dental work since. Over the years.

I recommend to check that the new pedals are still tight after 100 miles or so, loose pedals, if left will destroy alloy crank threads.

For your cleat set up actually move them all the way back on the shoe. Then in your socks have someone film you walk and also jump up and down 3 times and see how your feet naturally rest. Now try to replicate that with your shoes so if you set the cleats straight to start with but so you can still move the shoe in your hands. Hold the cleat then twist the shoe so it looks similar to how your feet where in socks after jumping.

Have a look at a indoor trainer to get some miles in when the weather isn't good

Put the cleats all the way back towards the back of the shoe to help with knee pain. I would recommend grease in the cleat bolts as with all the water we get they can seize up. Make sure they are done up really right too, if they come loose your foot easily gets stuck which can cause an accident. Check them regularly. It's easy enough but the thing is when you come to a stop and forget. Keep reminding yourself is the only way! If you find your feat naturally want to be at a different angle adjust the angle (rotation) of the cleat to allow it. They can also be angled in this way to stop the foot rubbing the frame if that is an issue. You can get more power with these if you focus on pulling up with each leg while pushing down with the other as usual.

Any particular reason for going clipless? I do a lot of cycling and don’t bother either with clipless, lycra or anything like that other than places for water, tools and food. I honestly don’t think I lose all that much without it and I always feel you will get more love from drivers without lycra

Never used clips and to be honest, I would probably forget I am clipped in and end up starring in a viral TikTok video I rarely rode anything other than a standard bike so it wasn’t ever anything that crossed my mind to use. Will be interesting to see you use them fully on a longer ride

Yellow cleats offer 6 degrees of float, red tends to be zero. Go for yellow if you have knee issues.

Try using Look Keo Red cleats, they will give you 9° of float.

If you keep on replacing bits it will be like Trigger's Broom (or the Flying Scotsman). I've had this bike 15 years and all that I've replaced is the two wheels, the handle bars, the seat, the brake pads, the front forks, the chain, the gear mechanism, the pedals, both tyres; four times, the brake lines and squeezers and the left phalange.

I stacked it at a traffic light controlled roundabout on my second clipless outing.
