Regenerative Agriculture for Soil Health Benefits
Monte Bottens operates a multigenerational, 2,800-acre farm in Cambridge, Illinois. Bottens Family Farm has been practicing no-till for 22 years. They produce corn and soybeans with cover crop rotations. In 2016, they added grazing livestock to their operation to improve soil health. In early 2018, Monte started Grateful Graze to market direct to consumers. While consumer sales was important to offset the costs of grazing for Monte, he incorporated livestock first and foremost for the soil health benefits. He also see increased potential for Regenerative Agriculture with larger, aggregated systems.

How badly, the nerdy sustainability people were begging for farmers to do this 40 years ago. I just wish they had put more money in years ago for farmers who were doing this so much sooner. Those blooms put so many people out of biz for no good reason. Because it's not like the farms who don't do this way or more productive because they aren't. year after year more inputs and less productive unless there's record rain fall spread out perfect to drop nitrogen on there crops. Real nitrogen living version and not the synthetic kind.
