The Philosophy of Blue Lock
Blue Lock is a series that explores the ego as well as what it takes to be a world class athlete. In this video I explore three characters that demonstrate the philosophy of the series in distinct yet connected ways.

    For kageyama, I would actually argue that haikyuu also deeply values ego. His main issue was that no one on his previous team wanted to keep up with him, an issue solved after meeting hinata in a situation similar to bachira with isagi or Loki raising Charles for his potential. In fact, after doing teamwork a little too much, Miya Atsumu, a very blue lock philosophy centered character, ridicules him calling him a goody two shoes. He learns to embrace his title as king. Haikyuu is focused on teamwork but the competition aspect between characters shouldn’t be understated. Hinata wouldn’t let him slack off for even a moment

      I would actually say the main difference in the philosophies of the two series is that while blue lock is very centered on a professional level of play, with ego being essential to win, haikyuu accepts and showcases all levels of engagement with the sport. If you look at the monster generation and everyone who ends up going pro, they are all pretty extreme egoists. just look at ushijima who occupies a role similar to Kaiser at shiratorizawa. The difference is that haikyuu showcases players beyond this without judgement. Suga put aside his ego and loses his starting position and that’s okay. Kenma is just playing because it’s an activity he started with his best friend, Osamu is a twin who doesn’t go pro precisely because he knows he doesn’t have the ego his brother has. Haikyuu knows about ego but has a wider scope of the sport because it’s primarily focused on depicting Highschool level volleyball whereas blue lock focuses on the world stage. Neither is better or worse imo, they just have different goals

    The whole philosophy of blue lock falls apart as soon as it goes into the real world. The best team of all time is Barcelona 2009. There's no other team as selfless as Pep's Barcelona. Rejecting ego and embracing true teamwork made them unstoppable. Also, the best player of all time is one of the most selfless and humble person in the world. Lionel Messi. In football, the best team wins not the best individual players. Just look at what happened with Real Madrid Galacticos

    In isagis s backstory of the spinoff ln, it was said that Isagis ego was sealed because of Japanese soccer. Until highschool, he was said to be an undefeatable striker in the whole state of saitama.

    the forwards in the Japan team play for mediocre squads while the other more teamwork based positions like midfielders play for clubs like arsenal. In the 2022 world cup, it came down to penalties, which is purely individual skill. Japan lost as their individual skill fell short to the croatians

    i think that you oversimplified what Haikyuu set out to do with Kageyama’s ego and him being the “king of the court”. Kageyama’s ego is just framed in a negative light. For example his unbelievable drive and focus is also the result of his ego. Haikyuu simply shows that it’s a double edge sword. So the first antagonist is Oikawa with whom the manga explore theme of teamwork talent and ego. But later we meet Mia Atsumu and Korai who both displays a LOT of ego and yet are very successful. And narratively their presence subtly changes the meaning of “king of the court” for Kageyama (with the goody two shoes’ arc). Haikyuu shows a subtlety and a versatility in its theme exploration that in my opinion Blue lock very much lacks. To me BL’s exploration of ego is so far very surface level and sometimes too over the top. + the dialogues are cringe af 😂. But still I liked your video keep it up 👍

    Blue lock balance of ego/confidence , Teamwork , Rivalry...out of all sports anime reivalries..one of the best things depedning on the blu lock instructions and round (outside the usual; soccer) Let me say this , I adore despite the sligth changes everyone respect the winner and loser in a team or against one on one and its legit!!!

    1:27 Another reason for why Haikyuu is different is that volleyball is a sport that completely destroys ego. You only have contact with the ball for a split second and you can’t touch it twice in a row for your team’s 3 hit limit. Essentially you’re forced to rely on others

    • @adrielcruz2736
      @adrielcruz2736 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d have to disagree with that. Even in Blue Lock you don’t win on your own, it’s just about putting yourself first and your desires rather than others. Isagi wants to win and is constantly shown using teamwork to achieve this, but not because teamwork makes the dream work it’s rather because it’s the most effective way to score HIS own goal because if he helps his team win they help him win. Atsumu is a perfect example of this in volleyball, as a setter he is the one who props up his hitters and gives them opportunities to score and if they don’t live up to his expectations he shits on them and calls them trash, even if it was just an off day. We also see him constantly pushing and doing things that are riskier than the safer type of set because it gives HIM more options, he doesn’t care how the hitters score because that’s HIS point, and he made the opportunity to score. The two series just focus about different aspects of their respective sports and show different parts of sports. Ego is definitely prevalent in both series and sports.

      @@YHWHsam disagree. Setter & Striker (Complete f...alse9). No mater how much i want to, i cannot solo a play as a setter. No mater how quick i want to play, my hitters determin the tempo. No mater where i want to put the ball, my hitters determin where i can put it. You cannot 1v1(or v2/3/4/5...) volleyball. Even if i score a setter dump, its still the 2nd contact on the ball. The only solo run in volleyball you can do is serving. Football on the other hand, if you are good enough you can 1v6 1v7. Not every teams like it, yadayada. Which in the beer leagues, is a real possibility for many. Football players are just being destroyed and made into statwhoreshipping robots who dont dare to do what Ronaldingo or Maradona tried in fear of becoming persona non grata due to all the budget guardiola's.

    It feels starved looking for anime youtubers, I mainly mean those who deconstruct animes to provide further value - that which people might have misses or just providing your own perspective and giving a lesson thorugh that. Not many channels out there like that. I said I feel starved for that content and yours made me near puke with fullness, good job and you bet I subbed. I guess we expect great things from you haha
