Um is a fantastically sensitive violinist, with an impressive range of tonal colors, which she puts to effective use in this kind of repertoire, something for which she appears to have a great feel (listen to her version of Achron's "Romanesca").

Gorgeous tone and an impeccable sense of phrasing. Um knows how to keep her portamenti just within the bounds of good taste; nicely accompanied by Orion Weiss, as always..

That this young violinist from South Korea can so deeply capture the pathos of this ancient Jewish ceremony is both incredible and a testament to the commonality of human experience regardless of race, creed, age or religion. Kudos to Ms. Um for this ravishing, virtuosic performance that never oversteps the musicality of Bloch's score.
