In a Violent Nature (2024) Horror Reaction/Commentary
Hey All! This is one of the most unique slasher films I've ever seen. I've seen some people describe it as 'artsy', but I wouldn't quite go that far. This one was bloody disgusting at times, however it was also a good horror movie.

Hey All! This was a super super solid horror movie. I have mentioned on my channel before that I tend to not get scared of older horror movies, for a combination of reasons. The effects can be outdated, the way actors do dialogue is dated, or just film-making sensibilities in general are different today. Despite all I just said, this one still managed to give me goosebumps from hell and managed...

Hey All! This one was an absolute epic. What's weird is that this movie is still enjoyable besides a large swath of the film involving nothing happening on the u-boat (at least in the director's cut I watched). Man, I hated that dipshit doctor, Dr. Seaton.. I first thought he was only an asshole to children, or just to Carol Anne in particular bc he took her to be a troublemaker after hearing about her & knowing her reputation from where she came from. But then I quickly realized no, he is a complete jerk to every single person he meets & acts like he is better & smarter than everyone equally: kids, teenagers, adults, his work colleagues.. Even the man's own wife.. I was SO glad "Donna" pushed him down that elevator shaft, lmao.. What an absolute condescending prick.. Turns out the dead hate that bastard as much as the living do, I guess, huh? 😂😂💀

When you asked who that female was who we could only see from the side when Bruce called & said his daughter & niece were missing somewhere in the building, that was Dr. Seaton's wife. We saw her earlier in the film when he was leaving & he told her to keep dinner warm & not forget the cilantro. They all had gone back to his home where he was briefing Scott at at the time. It threw me for a loop too when you first asked this question, bc all the times I seen that scene previously, I guess I too subconsciously thought that was Donna sitting there, for some reason, even though I knew they end up pulling her out later on & we weren't at that point yet, lmao.. So I totally get it.. At least now I do anyways.. I first kinda rolled my eyes at your question, lol.. Then I did a double take & thought, "Actually, WHO WAS THAT?!?" 😂😂😂

I think this movie is great but it had more potential than what it actually delivered. The ending felt rushed, like they ran out of ideas and just went along with whatever they came up. SPOILERS Like, is she a monster or not? Because based on what she says it seems she's a normal child but then how is she able to rip people in half? How is she crawling on the walls like that? If the parents knew they had the sister locked up, why didn't they listen to their kid when he said he was listening something behind the wall? WTF kinda logic is it blaming it on the kid when they have neglected (even punished) the kid when he was asking for help and they didn't even explain anything.

Hi Mike. I just became aware of your channel today. I was so excited to see a reaction to Wind River! I think this is an extremely important topic and heartbreaking to know the complete lack of stats regarding missing indigenous Native American women. It’s a gut punch. This scene depicts a common practice with Native American women when grieving. 16:30 I’m pretty sure these bones are pieces of the livestock the lion family killed and brought back to the den. 33:28 I had the incredible honor of seeing the world premiere of Wind River at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival with a commentary from Taylor Sheridan and most of the cast after the screening. Regarding Jeremy Renner’s amazing performance, he said that in trying to portray Corey, Taylor told him to “imagine a piece of steel banging against granite.” Jeremy Renner said the challenge of playing the role of Corey was that he was a man who felt deeply but couldn’t show it. I think that’s what makes the final scene with him and Martin sitting together out in the backyard in the snow so touching. They could deeply feel their shared grief together. I love this movie and really appreciate your insightful commentary so much! Thanks

My thoughts on John/Johnny: He’s an animal, basically the only word I have for it. I loved the story the woman told at the end, it ties to Johnny perfectly. He’s even attracted to noise and light instinctively just like one. He definitely has fractured memories from his past, but his “violent nature” (lol) is what drives him. He wears the mask as a form of comfort I’d imagine, it’s a link to his father and part of his death. I think Colt got axed for so long because he directly challenged and insulted Johnny, and Johnny probably reaaaaaally hates being made fun of… On the logsplitter kill: I have a hard time sitting through extreme gore myself, the yoga kill in this movie definitely made me look away a couple times because… Yeah lol. But it takes a LOT to make me look away. With crazy slasher kills, I find entertainment by asking “How did they do this and make it look REAL?” Like in the logsplitter scene, the actor’s eyes are moving before his head is split in two. I couldn’t look away because I was trying to figure out how they pulled it off. I loved this one! Really hoping for a physical release🤞

My problem with this film is that it’s the same theme of aliens from another world depicted as humanoids - two arms , two legs , and a head with eyes . The Carpenter film was a disappointment TOTALLY for me - people slowly turning into monsters after exposure to material or getting infected was too easy and stupid . The 2011 film came the closest to the narrative that I wanted to see - violent and bloody attacks , disturbing transformations , and a sense that the people messed with something that was WAY out of their league .

The so-called "sacrifice" of the German submarine force did not begin in 1941 but in 1943. In 1941, the submarines sank a lot of ships off the American coast. From 1943 onwards, the number of submarine casualties skyrocketed. In 1943, 287 German submarines were lost, almost twice as many as in the previous three years Improved combat methods, including the introduction of the Hedgehog, which was significantly more effective than conventional depth charges. Around 25% of the submarines attacked with it were sunk, while depth charges only had a success rate of around 7%. Quelle: Wikipedia

As a Submariner veteran who has served on many boats, including ones like this before the nuclear boats came along; I can tell you this movie is revered by Submariners. Even the socialising is accurate, though accentuated due to their being faced with their probable imminent deaths. A submarine captain I once served with once said, "If my ship's company (crew) can't go out and get wildly drunk, then crawl back onboard and do a first class job, I'm not interested in them." I was as wasted as them, including on 'rig runs' (going ashore and hitting the bars in uniform) good times! Somehow managed to set fire to a drum set and got thrown out by the bouncers. Went back in and threw the bouncers out. Submarine captains have to know and intuitively understand their men (and women now), so being a 'hard arse' will get the boat sunk. I prefer the UK translation, closer to the original, Johann the Phantom. Boats can do a certain amount of deep dives, but they are regularly refitted and re-tested. The punishment for a collaborator was Tar & Feathering, or much worse, if that was not appalling. Shower? Erm, nope. Longest I went without a shower was 2 months on this type of boat. I loved rolling and diving through the hatches. The destroyer IS part of the convoy, but is doing its job, breaking off to attack the boat. War is shit. Yesterday, today, and the inevitable, tomorrow.

I had a thought about the part where he is hitting the guy over and over with the axe...I wonder if he actually is or if it's more of a reference to something like PTSD, where things can play over and over in your head. Like we still hear it even after she runs away, so is he still doing it or is she hearing it in her head. Also, I love how the nature sounds are so beautiful with Johnny, but when she is running in the woods, all you hear is animals screaming and chaos.

Thanks for dropping in again! I think you're right about hearing the thudding when she's running through the forest. Also, I think there's a bigger takeaway on what the woman driving the truck is telling her, and how it relates to the story. Something along the lines of the undead son being akin to the bear she's talking about, like or maybe something even deeper about why we as humans like horror movies? Not sure!

But I get how the bear story connects now. Whatever the motivation, Johnny, just like the bear, just wanted to kill and commit violence.

Being absolutely drunk in uniform is definitely still a thing in German forces. I think we Germans are generally a bit more relaxed with alcohol. It is still common to all our forces to have it served in mess rooms on the premises. On German frigates there are 4 of them for sailors, corporals, sergeants and officers, all of them have bars with beer from tap. When they party on-board they party good! I never served in the navy (did my national service in the army aviation corps) but have been many times on the frigates as a civilian to work on their propulsion system. Well, I took part in a few parties of the ship's technical personnel (Heizer) and those Heizerparties were all legendary. Some of the casino scenes of Das Boot come quite close.

Hey my man, thanks for dropping in again! Yes that ending was particularly brutal for me. The anticipation of them being attacked abruptly was killing me

I watched about the first 12 minutes here but I think I'll check the movie out before I see your complete reaction. Looks really good so far. Love the lack of a music score as well.

Can't go wrong there! I do appreciate you trying to watch this without having seen it yet. I try to make the reactions in a way where someone who hasn't seen the movie will still be able to follow

@@mikewatchesstuff Yeah, eventually though I'd get closer to seeing who's dying or who's left and at least have an idea how it ends. I was even considering watching the entire reaction for those first 12 minutes lol. Cheers.

I still need to sit down and check out the movie you mentioned before, Disturbing Behavior I think it was called?

@@mikewatchesstuff lol yeah that's right. The one that reminded me of The Faculty because it came out so close to it and it involved high school kids who act way different than who they are. I don't want to hype it too much but it wasn't that bad IMO. I would prefer The Faulty if I were to choose between the two though.

Don't be confused about their compassion, they have to kill ships but don't want to kill fellow sailors. Those two are seperate.

I love how this really depicts the porn industry during this time as a very dysfunctional, yet supportive family:)

47:31 I suspect he fired the torpedo because he saw that the ship would not sink on its own, so he could not have entered the ship as sunk in the logbook. Besides, a torpedo like that gets you back to your home port more quickly, at least that would be my intention. It is a little difficult to assess why he did not pick up the sailors from the wreck. Firstly, there was the Lakonia Order, which forbade German submarines from picking up shipwrecked people after a German submarine was attacked and could not defend itself because the deck was packed with survivors from the Lakonia. The order was not issued until the end of 1942, but a date of 1941 was shown at the beginning of the film. The situation shown must therefore have occurred before the Lakonia Order. Unfortunately, there was a similar order for Allied ships, which forbade them from stopping the ship to pick up shipwrecked people so that they would not become targets for submarines.
