    The Hawse pro is fine but there's no reason to re-invent the wheel except for aesthetics I guess, it's a low-profile roller. The fair lead rollers work just as good with synthetic line and I think the protruding roller fair leads actually look more aggressive, I like them.

      I cannot argue with you. Your points are very valid. The biggest difference I see is in the fact that the rollers are made of a much harder material and will not gall like some of the typical rollers. Rough areas and abrasions on your rollers can lead to damage to the winch line. I am just happy that there are still people out there that are striving for the next best thing.

      @@coyoteadventurejohnmarshal1774 Yes, cable will chew up the rollers but it's cable and since you're all about safety I doubt you recommend or use cable. Synthetic line won't harm a standard roller fair lead, I've been using this setup for 15 years, it's been fantastic! I'm glad to see that you pointed out the big misconception; can a roller fair lead be used with synthetic rope, yes! As you described, it's actually better, rollers = larger diameter, less friction. I have no doubt the Hawse fair lead roller is better; it looks solid, it better be for $389.69 VS $34.99 😉

    Q: based on your Baja experience, is the 4" lift vs portal axel the way to go?

      I was going to ask if portals would be robust enough to use. The 4X4 squared uses portals and longer springs. LeTech makes the OEM, but there are brands from Eastern Europe that fit. Not sure which are stronger.

    Do you recall how you extended the track bar? You mentioned cut and lengthen by 1/4 inch. Not sure how you would length, did you weld? I have the same issue after a 40mm lift but I instead looking at eurowise adjustable bar for the front. The rear looked challenging to modify.

      Yes, I cut it and then machined an internal salad that would be inserted into the bar and welded into place.

      I cut and internally sleeved the bar. I then filled the 1/4 gap with weld and ground the weld back smooth. I then drilled a hole through both sides and did rosebud welds to fill these holes. I then ground these welds flush as well.

    Would have been really nice to show us that there was no lock to lock rubbing on the larger diameter shock and also whether or not there was a noticeable improvement on tracking and steering stability… I have replaced that steering stabilizer twice already in the 15 years. I’ve owned my 03’ G-500. was told by several people that you would have to use a spacer kit in order for a larger diameter steering dampener. Please do an update video/reply. Thanks 🙏

      I have run both 35” and 37” tires on 17” wheels but I prefer the 35” tires.

    Well done guys! I've been off-roading for 26 years and this was very useful information to know. Before seeing this I would have thought that there might be on occasions a need for hitting speeds of maybe 10 mph at least. I now see that going over probably 6 mph will never be needed. Luckily my rope is also 1 ⅛" thick too. I never foresee using it to pull out more than a 1 ton truck.

    Kinetic rope is the best! I'm using Miolle brand kinetic rope, worked like a charm. Nice hi-vis color makes it easy to see and, more importantly, stay clear of during the snatch. Seems very well made and robust. I definitely recommend this kinetic rope. Worth my money 👌👌👌

      Think of a fishing line. Does it make scenes to by the line with the hook pre attached? Or purchase the line and then the replaceable soft shackles as needed. Also, remember that the soft shackle do not work in all applications. Occasionally we still need the added durability of a screw pin bow shackle. Such as if the only attachment points have sharp edges. My point is simple. I prefer options in my rigging. I hope I understood your question.

    looks good, but build quality? as the ends look like plastic, hope just covers not the frame of the unit, but at $400.USD ea i will stick to a normal roller fair-lead. but then i like wire rope. in decades i have never had.. or seen one break. heck never even heard of one breaking. (except on u-tube) but like everything else maintenance is key. who out there uses a old damaged syn rope?

    Kinetic energy should increase to the square of the speed (quadratically, not exponentially) so your linear plot looks great!

    Great data ... and good advice ... thanks for running this test and reporting the results. What diameter and length of rope did you use? I'm guessing 7/8" diameter and 30 foot length. Would love to see the difference in load created by a different length of kinetic rope ... suspect that a shorter rope will create less load at each speed. If so, then the 20 foot ropes could safely use a little more speed than 5mph. Most of us are recovering with Jeeps, but it would be interesting to see what loads a heavier vehicle could produce ... that would be a difficult data point to obtain because of speed control.

    Those load numbers have to get crazy with a heavier truck, even at those speeds

      Regardless though, now that we have a metaphorical measuring stick, with a heavier truck, just start at a lower speed. Most heavier trucks have larger engines with more torque so if someone follows his instructions, and initially just tries a straight traction pull, most 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have the weight (traction) and torque to just straight pull the vehicle out without needing momentum.

    Excellent video. But let me hop on my soapbox for a second. For anyone looking at a recovery strap, make sure it is made of NYLON if you are doing a dynamic recovery. I've seen too many people with straps that are advertised as "recovery" straps, but are made of Poly/Silk, or poly, or polyester. The thing to remember is the ONLY material appropriate for a dynamic recovery is nylon. Anything else doesn't have enough stretch and will give much higher shock loads. I'd love to see you repeat this video with a polyester strap and show how much higher the loads are.

      Ok, I pondered this and did go that way for a couple of reasons. First off, there was the mattress on the bottom. It is true that there is enough room to fit a duct past the edge of the mattress. However, I felt that if I were to move around in the night I would en up tossing my sleeping bag or something over the duct and blocking it. Because of this, I decided to mount the vent high up and out of the danger zone of me blocking it in my sleep. Hope this helps. John. Please like and subscribe🤞

    It’s definitely a nice fair lead. I’m wondering if you put a bur in the metal roller from the eye you have on the end there if that could cut or damage your line. Probably a better idea to hook it to something instead of leaving it there to bang against it as you go down the trail.

      I’m not sure what hook you are referring to. If it was the ones sitting on the back of my golf cart those were only there for demonstration. However, if you watch till the end of the video you can see that I do not run a hook. I have the factor £.55 style and lube that has a rubber back. This gets pulled all the way into the Winch. You never want to leave exposed line out of your fairlead. Where it goes around the final sharp turn will always be a weak point in your line.     Looks like 2 redirects and a 2 to 1 pull. The only mechanical advantage is the pulley on the Jeep with 2 lines acting on it? Which is still enough to overcome the forward pull.

      Was just going to comment on that. Mechanical advantage is only gained by pulleys that move with the system. Stationary pulleys are changes of direction.

      @@johninthedesert2632 Thank you! How does they show themself? Smoother than regular springs or not while moving at washboard, speed bumps and so on? I have Fox shocks and regular springs, the suspension is ok but is a stiff at such kind of bumps even at softest settings of shocks

      The spring rate is very similar but with additional travel it will seem a little bit smoother. Also, remember, there is no way to eliminate the jarring effects of wash boards. Drive them slow, drive them safe.

In fact the washboar effects annoys me mostly at speeds between 30 and 80, so I have either move at very slow speed (that is not good for long distance washboard) or at quite fast speed for such bad surface =D. And now I'm thinking what to do: add spacers to enlarge shock travel (In fact Fox shocks are calculated for Gwagens lifted up to 2"); replace stock springs with lifted ones (OME, Dobinsons, ORC etc) or tune shocks with other valve... What should I do?)

      I also have 2.5 silicone spring spacers giving my vehicle a total of 4.5 inches of lift. For this, I went to King shark and had a custom set of shocks made. Very expensive and I was never very happy with them. I raced the g wagen in the Baja 1000 and the only thing that failed was the King Shocks. I am now rebuilding them and making some of the parts for them myself. Wish me luck, I will be racing again in this year’s Baja 500.

      Not 100% sure because I’ve never had a good oem stabilizer. I just know that this fox is doing great. I also did a 4.5” lift on the G.
