Botanical Ink Making tutorial
How to make your own botanical inks from flowers, food waste and natural dyes.
You will need:
aluminium pan
dye material
strainer
modifiers such as lemon juice, vinegar, washing powder
paper (I use Khadi paper in this video)
palette
water
source of heat
brush and pencil
gum arabic (optional)
A dye reference book is really useful, my favourite is Wild Colour by Jenny Dean.

Frustrating camera angle
Thanks for the tutorial Nell, l'm playing about with gel plate printing and think I could expand my technique using your ideas. Inspiring ❤
Vraiment tres intéressant merci
Thank you.
Great demonstration.Thanks, Julia
Beautiful but the camera was a bit far from the work you wanted to show
Is there a form of Intaglio that you can do without a press?
We wish more videos... for some reason i would want to use a fat point to draw.
Your camera is too far away to see exactly what you're doing which defeats the purpose somewhat. 😮
Interesting! I like it.
Great stuff. This plate could also be inked and printed in the intaglio method. Very versatile.
I had apreciate very much that easy technic and I would see more about it
You’re exactly what I needed, thanks 😊
Thank you
Excellent-clear and very p[practical. Thank you. :-)
What a lousy camera angle….couldn’t see what you were doing!

I didn’t know this channel existed! I love your work! Thank you so much for sharing these videos ❤ Please make more x
It would be really helpful to see how you clean your plates and how you line up your print for the second color, I would love to try this with my art students.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you!
Could you please tell me what type of brand of ink you use? Could one use Oil or Acrylic paint. Thank you for this video clip.
How about re-positioning your camera, so your viewers can see you work?
Hi! What ink do you use?
Hi Nell …. I enjoyed this demo. For me, your camera needs to be adjusted. In some shots it’s too low? Can’t quite see what’s happening at your end of the table. Thanks for doing it.
a-LU-min-um , for when you go to the hardware store.😉
Nope, not in U.K. 😉
Thank you for sharing! Great idea ❤️
I love the Caligo oil inks too. Good to watch your technic. 🌺😊
Actually I like the irregular border. I’d leave it. ☺️
Wonderful. 🙏🏽💙🌺😁
Hi there, thank you for this. Now I understand a bit more about the process. Please could you tell me how to 'clean the plate' so I can use another colour? Thank you so much :)

Hi.. What ink do you use? Thanks for tutorial..
It looks like it might be Caligo printing ink. I get it from Amazon, but it gets shipped from England. I got red, blue, yellow, black and white.
