Sounds great, Ian. Merry Christmas to you. Your playing is a nice gift. George
I don't do christmas but thanks for the positive comment and wishing you a great saxophone journey.
I didn't like the scales, but the actual "jam" part sounds great.
Scales are simply for a dry sound reference.
This is the sort of channel I'd have if I had more of a microphone addiction. Luckily I sought help with the help of the IRS (who is now taking most of my money every year :/ )
Totally understand, them lot are awful.
What kind of mouthpiece is it?
I wrote it in the description of this video.
LOVE YOUR SOUND!
Thank you.
I also have a Yamaha tenor saxophone
When the m160 beyerdynamic mic video?
I'm not a big fan of ribbon mics but if I come across an M160 I will do a video of course.
I don't know, I use Motu M4 with my TLM 102 and I record clarinet. No idea if a preamp would be better.
Very interesting take on a classic. All the more impressive that you still manage to insert a bit of feeling since you don't celebrate Christmas yerself. Microphone sounds neat, though! I see that one can still buy a Shure SM86 new. That one is described as a robust condensermicrophone perfect for vocal use. Could it be the successor to the SM85?
Nice chords!!
Thanks.

Have a merry Christmas 🎅
I don't celebrate that bollox.
Did you switch in the high pass filter? The mic sounds quite thin/ not a lot of the body I’m used to from a Tenor
I tried lots of ways including the filters and i prefer a bright tone.
I recommend trying an EV RE20 on Saxophone 😊
Already tried many time and did a video, not really good for recording but ok for live work.
Nice mic that
Really nice TLM103 clone. Solid sound.
21s are great like
Totally agree, great to play.

Selmer the best !
Love it! Where are Heftrig mouthpieces available?
Google search helps and look him up on facebook.
My mate has over a 100 pair of speakers. He reckons he should see somebody…….😅
Maybe he should sell some and buy more.
Is it just me, or does the tone with the straight neck sound more out of control (wobbly) and less focused than with the standard neck? With more of a free air flow (with straight neck), there is less resistance and therefore less opportunity to center or focus or control the sound. What say you?
Sweettttt
Ya definitely digging ya mp mate Coolllllll
You have to try. MB vibe and tone style.
❤ Coolio. Niceeee
Thanks for the support amigo.
Loved the outside playing ian
@@michaelosullivan9339 Thanks, it's a style that really appeals to me and helps to keep improvisation fresh feeling.
I've had my SA80 for about 20 years. Same vintage as yours. Every single time I try a modern Selmer that makes me think that I may want to "upgrade," I keep finding more reasons to love my horn. Trying to find any decent Selmer tenor under the 2k USD mark has also become pretty difficult in recent years. So, if it ain't broke, I ain't taking out a new mortgage for a horn.
Definitely coolllllll. I think for soprano the pai thing works sweettttt.
Never destroy a vintage instrument
Nothing has been destroyed so I don't understand what you mean.
I have one from 1964, it's great!
what was the depth of the bridge at the extreme point after the reface?
I have no idea what you mean by "bridge"? I never heard that word used ever in mouthpieces or refacing.
Definitely warmer. Really nice core
Sweetttt. Great having a mate so close for your mp work 👍
Well, not exactly close, 7 hours away but I get what you meant :)
Who made the "Beast" for you ,out of interest.
A respectable factory in China that make parts and instruments for a lot of big name brands.
@iantrewhella9470 sanway ?
Coolllll
Problem with chinese staff in reseling value. Coz when you buying 58 or 2020 you know that you can give your money back by reseling it. Also, "standart" mics are known over the world, and enginers at studios or venues know how to work with them.
Yeah, I have to come to realize that some of these cheap chinese microphones ain't half bad. Takstar is another good brand. I bought the Takstar Tak-55 when I needed a microphone that would give me a decent sound on some tutorial videos I had to make in my job. It sounds great on my voice though I don't actually have a saxophone to try it out on.
Sounds interesting so maybe I buy one of them and do a video to see how it is on saxophone. Thank you for the tip.
@@iantrewhella9470 excellent. They have a few funky looking microphones, but I have only tried the tak-55 and a shotgun microphone made for attaching to ones camera...
not even close to my 64 selmer MKVI. i own the eastern music and a vintage selmer mkvi tenors. my mkvi is more open and easier to play. there's a huge ahh factor missing from the eastern music copy. i do use a an eastern music 45 dollar jody jazz copy metal mp and it is amazing.
I'm sure your vi is nice but we all like different things and there's so many great saxophones to choose from now.
I wonder what the difference is between this microphone and the beta version of the same microphone, apart from looks. The beta microphone costs almost 3x the price of this.
Belo som 🎉🇧🇷
I'm getting pretty deaf and have crappy speakers on my PC, but the mark VI sounded fuller across the harmonics and stronger in the high range. The Groger has a nice bottom end though. Love your tone.
Thank you for the constructive and positive words.
Try to have the mic in the frame so we know how far and in what possition it was placed
If you see here in another mic demo video th-cam.com/video/L7dxk0J96tQ/w-d-xo.html this is how I set up. I play around 2 feet away from the mic in general and it was pretty much the same setup with the KSM32.Hope that is a bit clearer for you.
Hi mate this might be a silly question but are you able to plug this mic directly into the XLR inputs on say a Zoom recorder, or would it have to be via a cable?
Never tried plugging it directly in physically but looking at it I know it won't fit because the metal edge around the XLR port on the mic is thicker than an XLR plugs edge so it won't fit, that I'm sure of...plus I just tried it because I was curious, didn't fit.
@@iantrewhella9470 awesome saved me some time thanks mate
Hi Ian, I was considering yo buy this mic for talking head videos, I'm curious how is the self noise? Did you notice that it was high or was it acceptable?
The self noise is very good on this so I would definitely not worry about it.
@@iantrewhella9470 Thank you for the quick response Ian!
man, this this mic sounds wonderfully natural!.........
What is your favorite less expensive mic?
Great question, it depends what you class as cheaper because what may be cheap for some might be expensive for others but around the $100 price in small diaphragm condenser Alctron T05 or AKG p170 are cheaper but very nice and large diaphragm condenser a used audio technica 2035 or Alctron cs85 are nice around $100.
You sound great on all the mics I’ve seen you try!
@@ginohernandez5143 Thank you, that's a very inspiring thing to hear, more mics to come but back to your original question, there are so many affordable mics out there especially used that will do a great job and also it's about mic position, technique and distance (around 2 feet away) recording level (around volume 40-50%).
@@iantrewhella9470 thank you!
Good playing but guy, where did you get that saxophone made and how much?.......I am thinking about buy a decent Chinese tenor that Isa little better than the eastern music one that I have!👊🏾😡
I designed this sax and had it made to my specifications. Maybe look at Sahduoo saxes, www.sahduoo.com/ very well made and play great. th-cam.com/video/yQQAxYwcFFk/w-d-xo.html
Definitely a niceeee mic. Full range coollllll
Cheers Dave.
I really liked the sound of the X1-T. It must have been discontinued quite recently, because when I wondered what it went for nowadays I happened upon a Norwegian music web shop that said they still had it in stock..
great playing!........what saxophone is this? i bought one of those eastern music saxophones that you reviewed! what do think of them after playing it for a while?
Thank you for the comment. I had a few Eastern music saxophones and they all played very good and better than some bigger brand name saxes and I prefer to service and set them up and they still play really well after time.
this is truly beautiful
Thank you and it plays beautifully
BTW what audio interface u used here? i would say also plays a big role
Direct to my zoom q8n camera. I tried many preamps/interface and the zoom was as good as them and definitely good enough for this.
@@iantrewhella9470 well... there will be a difference... try out at least scarlett 2i2 3rd, or better 4th gen.
@@mrpicky1868 tried and there wasn't a big difference. I also have a GA audio pre 73 and that is very good but for my videos I don't feel the need to use a preamp.
@@iantrewhella9470 99 % of mic inputs have preamp in them. to hear the difference in audio interface you need a good audio system also. the difference is often petty big. if the mic has that sound to begin with, of course
@@mrpicky1868 I have multiple good quality preamps and the zoom built in preamp is actually very good and more than good enough for what I am doing.
came for the mic test. didn't expect getting grade A jazz jam. very impressive. BTW not all pencil mics are the same. you got a good one. 22mm gold capsule. pretty big. a lot of voc mics have smaller capsules. t05 has a pesky 9 db bump on 13khz. according to manual. EQ should level that out. also try MXL V67N mic. fuller and more consistent sound
