How To: clean, oil and disassemble your CobraTec OTF automatic knife (time codes added) #otfknife
Solid and sound reasoning my friend. I too carry a Hellcat 90% of the time ( it’s the best of all micro-9s. I’ve owned, carried, and shot them all.). But I work in a NPA and have to deep conceal. I have been using an LCP Max, which conceals nicely. But I have found it is not as reliable or powerful as my j frame revolver. The ONLY argument that holds weight is capacity. Reloading is not an issue in an emergency self defense situation ( there isn’t even enough occurrence of reloading during a self defense shooting to even appear on data). However, with five rounds of .38 all, when the most crucial affect is shot placement, the .38 makes way more sense. Round count almost does not even matter. Thanks for the video, bud
Great video
just a note firepower is not the same thing as power factor : i’m a fan of the 9mm j frame
Now you know how to "field strip" a gun in your mother's basement
I have carried a snub nose 38 revolver as a ccw for over 30 years. Current gun is a Ruger LCRX in 38spl loaded with Hornaday Critical Defense 110gr JHP. That with a 5 Star speed loader, and I feel well armed for a retired citizen.
I carry the Ruger LCRx. I know it only has five shots, but i practice, practice, practice with it and shoot it well. Also, I don't go stupid places at stupid times with stupid people. I'm not a freelance cop. So the J frame is good enough for my needs.
There are 2 big advantages to a revolver. First, if you have a malfunction (like a light primer strike), you simply pull the trigger again. In a high stress situation, that is the natural reaction anyway. Second, and I agree with you, being able to fire from a pocket is a huge advantage. If I see something sketchy, I can already have that revolver ready to fire, without needing to draw. If I’m wrong, I don’t freak out everyone around me. If I’m right, I have an element of surprise in CQB distances.
This is a great simple video. My edc is a S&W Model #640-1, .38 special/.357 magnum. I don't go anywhere without it! Thanks for sharing!
BUT...I also own a S&W M&P .380 Bodyguard. Better for pocket carry when deep concealment in 2A hostile venues are on the menu for the daily activities. In a close range self defense situation you will not stage the trigger. (or use the sights) Good technique for shooting paper or steel at ranges far beyond what these revolvers are usually used in self defense. Practice at 2 yards, three yards maximum. That is the range these guns will actually see use at _for self defense_
I like revolvers. But the rationale that “I want a small gun to put in my pocket for when I go to the convenience store” makes little sense. Convenience stores are robbed all the time.
Esse simm
I have a Smith 642 .I do pocket carry it sometimes. I takes a lot of practice for me to be accurate with it .some people will lighten the trigger. I think Wilson Combat sells a spring kit .
The performance center 642 air weights (3) come with a tuned action and 20% lighter trigger pull. The trigger does not stage on this pistol. I have a 642-1.
A lot of web know it all types may disagree and make negative comments. I made it to 70 years old with your philosophy. And yes, I have been in a gunfight or two.
Tell us the self defense story, I would like to hear it.
@@timd729 Would love to, but not on a public forum. Too many pertinent details would be required to tell the story. Best to keep ones mouth shut...old school style. People generally talk to much.
I EDC a LCRX in .357 95% of the time. It's the only thing I can comfortably appendix carry for 14hrs a day.. yes I carry it with .357 ammo. I like same ammo guns, my truck gun is a lever in 357 and I open/ conceal carry a S&W 19 at times. I also live in rural KY, so the combination works well for personal protection and utility. It's not for everyone, but perfect for me.
I am a 38 spcl fan also. But I would suggest chronographing your ammo out of that small barrel. No way is it getting anywhere close to 1100 fps. Having said that, I still prefer revolver carry over pocket autos, although I often do carry a Ruger LCP Custom in summer.
I totally agree with you, brother. I would add one more advantage that I believe is that a good revolver is more reliable than a semi-automatic pistol. This is my belief. Take it or leave it.✌️
How many times have you seen a good autoloader (since you prefaced your revolver statement with "good") jam in a defensive situation? Yeah, exactly...
I recommend the Desantis grip clip for j-frames. 90% of the time that I leave the house for a quick run to the maket, I'm wearing pants with a belt on already. I have never noticed a reason to worry about concealment or the trigger engaging with the way that it fits my body. Though, I prefer the 638, myself.
G.K.USA. I could never understand the the concealment advantage of any revolver with a barrel of less than 2.5". My Charter Arms .44 special Bulldog. It easily packs in my cargo pockets with the aid of a Sticky Holster. My jacket pockets work well also. I am considering buying a .38 cal., 5 or 6 shot, again with a 2.5" barrel. The longer barrel doesn't print and will fit in my pants pockets and jacket's breast pockets. I'll get a bit more velocity, less muzzle flash, and a nicer looking revolver.
I own many j frames , but your not gonna be thinking about staging the trigger in a SD situation, your gonna be pulling that trigger as fast as you can especially during an adrenaline dump
So you’ve got me hooked on J-frames, what brands and models are available and your recommendations and accessories to match the pistols? Everything you mentioned makes a whole lotta sense. Shooting from pocket is a superior tactical advantage. Thanks in advance
I never watch vids like this. I downvote them and ignore the channel THERE IS NO BEST GUN BASED ON PERSONAL OPINION. What is " best " is what works for you that .
This guy’s voice sounds just mine. Someone else said Bob Ross, but I’ve never heard him 😃
Your way off on foot pounds of energy for 380 ! Check out Underwood Ammo, 288 for +P loaded with XTP round or 296 for +P loaded with their Xtreme Defender round.. And with non +P you get up to 255 ft lbs of energy with their Xtreme Defender round.
Not all J frames are the same. Many J frames have hammers. Some have 3" barrels. The original J-frame, a Model 36 with a 3" barrel and a square butt, looks like a 3/4 scale N frame.
ALL J-frames have hammers. The 642/442 have hammers, they're completely shrouded. Perhaps you're confusing that with revolvers that have exposed or semi-shrouded hammers?
K-frame is MY choice not j-frame
A excellent video on the S&W J frame revolver this one in stainless steel with those Special colored grips dress up the gun 💯😊👍
2 spare magazines minimum or more if you can for main carry, and a good back up and spare magazines or speed loaders
Don't stage the trigger, folks. Learn proper technique. Staging isn't safe and it's not realistic for defensive purposes.
What is that
Squeezing it to the point where the internal hammer cocks back and holds, then fires with the slightest bit more pressure. It feels cool and is fun and but it's just asking for ADs. The hammer will absolutely drop unexpectedly, especially during a high stress defensive situation. @hatersgotohell627
Yup, that’s the truth. I was involved in three on duty shootings during my 30 year career and things go down w/o warning. You wind up shooting back as fast as you can until the other guy goes down. Learn how to combat reload your revolver b/c you may need to do that. I had to reload under fire in a ‘74 gunfight before the suspect went down. The so called “experts” can expound all they want, but until they’ve been “there” I don’t put much stock in what they have to say.
@oldcop18 I'm happy to hear you made it home after all three, and congrats on on 30 years of service! I've been in one shooting but only been on the job for a few years. No reload necessary with mine, thankfully.
I feel so much more comfortable with my 6” revolver. Don’t let anybody tell you it’s too big. I cc carry mine
How do you cc yours? Are you using a shoulder rig?
I know of two reasons why my LCP Max is better than your revolver-- 1) lighter and more compact, making it easier to conceal-carry. 2) 10 rounds beats 5 rounds any day.
You sound like Bob Ross....happy little j-frames
😂😂😂 right!
Good thoughts, but you're not getting the velocity or foot-pounds printed on the box if you're using a 2 or 3 inch barrel. Great Baldwin reference!
As he stated we're all just giving opinions and I have several j frames but to me there is no comparison between a five shot weak 38 special coming from a 1 7/8 inch barrel to the much smaller LCP max 12 shot 380 where you can switch magazines in a couple seconds. But I agree that the j frame has it's place and the added reliability plays a major role; plus many people don't realize how accurate those j frames can be. Smaller size 380 sold me.
I know a reasonable compromise do like me and carry both 😂! I carry a S&W 642 (with 1 speed loader and a leather pouch that holds 6 shots even tho the Smith is a 5 shot)and a 7 shot Ruger LCP ( 1 extra magazine)! The LCP fits nicely in the bib when I'm in overalls or in a holster under a t-shirt on my belt with the Smith in a sticky holster in my pocket! An old Lieutenant I had told me when I 1st got into Law Enforcement to always carry a backup so I did that even off duty!
I like the grips on your sample revolver. Could you tell us who makes them?
That scares me to death. Keep thinking I’m he’s going to let go
Good solid and valuable information ...you should also rotate out your carry ammunition at least every 6 months. ..annually max!
Proclaims a j- frame is best for ccw then proceeds to say he carries a Springfield Hellcat 90 percent of the time.🤔 Derp...🤡
In my younger days, I carried a S&W model 36 with 3" barrel when doing office duty, plainclothes duty and off duty. Loaded with 125gr jacketed soft nose Speer's I never felt undergunned for close encounters. This was when semi-autos were mainly military sidearms. Thanks for sharing this video.
That gun is great but it's right at the borderline of concealable vs belt gun. You really have to choose your outfits wisely to conceal the 3" version.
I put a J-Frame in my pocket and you could clearly see it print on my jeans. I put a Kel-Tec P32 in my pocket and it disappeared so that’s my choice. I’d prefer a 38’s power over a 32 ACP but it has to be concealed at all times.
Any gun carried in your pocket should be in a pocket holster, for a variety of reasons.. one being it won't print nearly as much 😅
Great video, thanks! I completely agree with what you've said here. I once thought a micro/subcompact weapon in .380 would be really handy, but after doing some research and trying some out, I changed my mind. Even though I sometimes carry a Sig P365 XL, a fit-for-purpose revolver in .357mag/.38special made so much more sense to me. And most of the time I also use .38 +P ammo, which seems a great compromise between comfort and firepower. Plus, who doesn't think rotating cylinders are sexy? Cheers! 🙂
wait... are you trying to imply that you would have time to worry about staging the trigger in a self defense scenario? This is a perfect example of someone who has read too many articles, and watched too many videos and has zero actual real world experience.
Most people dont have real work experience shooting their way to safety. I understand your frustration, but this is actually a good sign😂
@@RequisiteFunction Good take, and I agree.
He was simply describing the staging. I dont think any one in their right mind would be worrying about staging a trigger in a in a defensive shooting situation. One advantage I see to using a revolver is that you don't have to try to remember if its in battery or not when you need to shoot.
@@tonyrebel63 Rewatch the video, he was not just describing what staging is. He definitely says and implies that trigger staging is, and should be, a part of the shooting process, and that to be a good shooter, you need to stage the trigger.
You can use that Springfield as a pocket gun to ya know!
I couldn't agree with you more i have been carrying a .32 Rossi snubbie in a man bag for 38 years, when things look dicy i unzip the pochet it os in and put my hand on the gun ready to rock! Revolvers are 'real world' guns, semi autos are shooting range guns!,They are both great, but when people start saying revolvers are obsolete, i get really pussed off!
What is an armed robber going to take away from you first? Your man-purse. Now you're disarmed and he has TWO guns. Never carry a gun inside the object a thief is most likely to steal. A friend of mine nearly lost his life over that mistake. The only thing that saved him was his hideaway gun.
Voice is so quiet as if filming this video at your cubicle 🤣
Nice looking revolver with that gray tone wood-grain looking grip. Yes, im a lady.
Fire extinguisher guns are great. Easy to carry and easy to use.
There's such a thing as too much energy when the energy is so high that the round can't be fired accurately.
Never put a pistol in your pocket without a holster! Revolver or automatic!
I pocket carry a naked P32 all the time and sometimes a LCP Max. It’s perfectly fine if you aren’t retarded.
100%. Pockets aren't made for that. Eventually you will wear a hole into the pocket liner, and the gun will slide down your leg
Was carrying a micro dagger 15+1 9mm striker broke on me before 200 rounds. Now I carry a rock island m206.
That has everything to do with the quality of the firearm and nothing to do with semi auto vs revolver. Wheel guns can break firing pins too
