I had my issues with the movie, too. I couldn't escape the sense that the movie was constantly interrupting *itself* to pad out the runtime and force us to come back for the sequel. It just seems like they added a lot of fluff, and if they hadn't, we could have gotten a complete story instead of showing up in theaters to find out that it was a two-parter. But why did you even watch it if you don't like musicals? You didn't even stay for the songs, skipping a lot of important plot stuff. This is like removing the cheese from a pizza, eating it, and then deciding you don't like pizza. If you despise cheese, then why did you order a pizza?

Does the maker of this film even realise how hypocritical they are??! A character who is demonised for wanting to be young and beautiful played by an actress who has stayed young and beautiful. It portrays the main character in a bad light for hating being old (even when she is actually amazing looking and not unattractive at all!) but then it goes on to use aging as the horror element!! SOOOOOOOO hypocritical it beggars belief! It literally shames people for finding aging horrifying, then uses aging to make people feel horrified!! Reply

So. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean the movie isn’t good. What does that mean? The story writing, storytelling, media literacy, symbolism, impactful visuals, coloring, it evokes emotional connections, it has a theme that connects to the real world, and a compelling story. All of which AND MORE make a “good movie”. You, my friend, don’t have media literacy, an appreciation for actual story writing, and you just don’t like theatre. It’s a literal musical movie and you complained about the “big expressions”. You simply don’t understand the movie.

Few things. One is that I agree that the musical movie was overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing, but I’ve heard so many people acting like it’s the best thing since sliced bread and that it’s better than the musical. It’s not. Second I want to point out that a lot of what you said has to do with both not understanding the plot and not listening to the songs. Fiyero is actually very important to the plot in the second act, and I won’t spoil it, but there are some pretty powerful scenes with him. Also the whole “why are they so scared and mean to elphie when everyone is diverse” is so stupid because the exact same thing happens in the real world. It is a fantasy world so things considered “normal” there might be things people in the real world discriminate against. In our world there are people who have all different eye colors, but that’s not super common of an issue. Everything humans are scared of to is societal. Finally THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT ELPHIE ISNT PERFECT. she isn’t supposed to be the hero necessarily, just the protagonist. Everything that happens doesn’t take away from her literally torturing Dorthy, it just makes her more human and shows her path. Also ofc she assumes everyone is against her, because her whole life basically everyone is.

Ok so coming from a theater kid so i have some bias. Obviously you’re not gonna like a movie of a musical if you dont like musicals. I get it, but also you can’t do a review of a movie musical and then most of your points are related to not liking the musical qualities. And also the fact that you skip songs and then complain about the plot is really weird. Most of the important plot points were during the songs, that’s how musical theater works. They convey plot through song and dance. No wonder you thought it was boring.

I feel like the reason why Eplhie talks over everyone is because she knows all people will say is bad things about her since that's how they've treated her since birth essentially. She tries telling them their wrong before they even get the chance to say it.

Most hypocritical movie in the history of American cinema and an infinite embarrassment to all involved...especially those who paid to be urinated on by Coralie and Demi.

It had the potential to be so good honestly if they just gives the guy who played his father accent and change up is backstory by making him come from a mystical tribe that gains the powers of beast and make his father like the strongest creature by transforming him into a combination of different animals it would be the story about how the strongest hunter vs the king of best and he gets his title as the worlds strongest. 😩😔wasted potential.

I think the long mid season break hurt the momentum of the show. But i thought season 2 was better than season 1 except for the season finale. I thought the first season finale was epic.

In my opinion it was better written and a bit more focused than season 1 but it did not had a killer ending like season 1 so i imagine people are going to criticize season 2 on that alone.

Not at all. If anything I think it’s underrated. It’s gotten some hate because of the mid season break and wasn’t as action packed as the first but I saw this season as a season of world building. Apparently people can’t be patient and enjoy a story. It was a good season and was the perfect set up for season 3 especially after seeing the trailer and knowing about certain things in the comic

The story and acting alone gives it a 10 out of 10. Add to the horror that isn’t cartoonist and you get a masterpiece

I agree with you, it is a Masterpiece. Not only the best horror movie of all time but one of the all time great movies ever.

What I never realized about this movie is the great acting.

Seen it at the drive-in “74 when I was 6 haunted my childhood. I can watch it now ( in the daytime ) but if the images just pop up randomly I have to fight the urge to put fingers in ears, squeeze my eyes shut and curl up into a ball 😱 I do appreciate what a masterpiece it truly is.

I so agree with you! It's my favourite movie of all time. Not just from the horror genre, but from all the genres. No wonder horror has a bad reputation, with all the cheap, mindless jump scares and predictable plots. There's a few modern ones that I do like, but most of them aren't worth your time. I saw this for the first time a tween at a drive in theatre. My best friend's mom took us - a carload of kids to go see it, which is hilarious. I don't think she realized what it was actually like - no one expected this. But what a great movie. So well acted, incredible intriguing story, fantastic characters and the ending was a surprise too. Thanks for making a great post about the movie.

What many people may not understand is that The Exorcist is a Psychological Thriller. I'm 63 years old and was 14 in 1974 when I watched The Exorcist in theaters, and I can say that in some way still fascinating and hunted me to this day.

I did a comic to adaptation review on this movie with Grant Morrison's and Frank Quitely's JLA: Earth 2 comic, which makes this movie a giant disappointment. Especially when the Crime Syndicate is nerfed, their origin stories are not explored to make them come across as evil versions of the Justice League, Owlman is not acknowledged as Batman's big brother, Superwoman is a grown up evil version of Mary Marvel, Brainiac's neutral apathy on both Earths is replaced by making Owlman a suicidal nihilist and the movie ends with a stupid "happy ending is mandatory" note without acknowledging that the Crime Syndicate should be symptoms of their world's nature, not the cause of it. Also, Martian Manhunter and the good Ravager's doomed relationship wastes runtime that could have been used to flesh out the Crime Syndicate and show them actually be evil like in the comic.

Maybe this energy trigger is similar to how a hydrogen bomb works. The energy from a nuclear fission explosive is what triggers the hydrogen bomb's nuclear fusion explosion.

Can there be a parallel earth or the justice league are always bad but don't hesitate to eliminate all those who good
