Simon Shaw, guitar and vocals, and Jem Turpin, harmonica, playing at the Jenny Lind Inn, Hastings in 2015. On the Sunny Side of the Street was written in 1930 - with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. The composition is credited to Jimmy McHugh but there is some thought that Fats Waller wrote it and sold it on.

Just Surfing YT I come across this...and what a fascinating arrangement! Def grade A+ my compliments.
Once a year, Thank God!! Beautiful performance, gentlemen. Merry Christmas 👏👏🎸🎸🎄🎄🎅🎅💖💖
Haha, amen to that! Merry Christmas to you too Gary.
Fantastic stuff!
Mr.Peepers n Twirly Sue approve 😼😺
Beautiful! What a lovely strong pulse, powerful picking and strong vocals - a great version!
That looks like an Atkin he is playing there!
Now that is awesome ❤
Thank you for sharing. I've listened to a number of acoustic duos with guitar and harmonica (Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee come to mind, and some others), and none I enjoyed as much as you two. Keep it up!
Great to see John Pearson again!!! From the class of '72 at the Mitre, Liverpool.
You Always make my day Sir - wonderful ☺️🎶
Reminds me of Josh White
👍😊
Really nice,he can play.
Academic standards should dictate owning up to the changes made here. The mis-attribution of Doc Watson is unfortunately all too common as is the omission of the tuning change...a crutch for the less capable.
Nice!........................................................................
Very good my New friend, This is very good, 100% Playing = 510 Mick.
With all due respect, this ain't Doc. Sorry.
You don't say.music.changes.all.the.time.
Yeah, we know. Doc died awhile ago.
With all due respect... he is paying his respects to Doc with this performance.. You dunce
And Doc's version ain't as per the original Delmore Brothers recording: th-cam.com/video/a03NI7QFME0/w-d-xo.html The Delmores used plectrum (aka flatpicked) 6-string and 4-string (tenor) guitars, calling the song 'Big River Blues', whereas Doc's solo version is Merle Travis (finger) style.
Oh how I miss this duo thankfully we can still have the joy of Jem Turpin locally but there was something special about John and Jem👍
Love it ! ❤
nicely done!!
Great stuff!
nice take on it..will have to try it in drop D
Woah! Amazing playing - thank you!
the version was so beautiful! great musicians. I send hugs from Brazil
@henriquedonascimento6694 thank you for the kind words
Wow, that’s really great
Thanks for sharing your talent
Brilliant! I love the snap and bounce of his playing.
👌👍🍺 John, you,are the man!
Great stuff. Love it.
Top drawer chaps. John really is a very fine exponent of this style of fingerpicking.
Great rhythm! Great picking!
Merle Travis
Tremendous version.
This is terrific 👏👏💖💖
@garyschafer-thepickinpilot9010 Thank you and also for the other kind comments you've posted on other videos
What's the tuning please? Lovely arrangement.
Thanks @benw-king, it's in open D/dadgad.
@@jemturpin Many thanks. I was wondering how John got that minorish sounding note in there. I play in a duo with my son - who plays harp - the music is pre WW1 Piedmont country blues. I find that with the space that finger picking creates, it sounds particularly striking with harmonica.
Nice!
These guys are rockin ❤
Love it
One of my all time favorites!!!!
Wonderful!!!
Never heard this version. Open D tuning I think . Guitar rings like a big Ol’ bell. Thank You
A great rendition thanks ... inspiring!
Wonderful guitar playing
What tuning is John playing in please? Beautiful playing from both you chaps.
Thanks. John's in open D
@@jemturpin Ah! Thankyou very much.
Very fine indeed.
One of the best fingerpickers around - at least that I've seen in the UK, and in this style.
Terrific. The gent has a sportin' right hand!
Absolutely beautiful and something different. Thank you
Great as ever ! last time I heard this guy was about 50 years ago , when he played around the folk scene in Liverpool. Remember that place down the bottom of Duke St John … this is Geoff Shaw , your George played bass with my band Argon. Hope your all well.
Deux vieux trippeux qui ont le plus dans le cœur et dans l'âme!! Super 😊❤
