I felt like a snob once. I went to visit an alpaca farm that also had the machines to produce their own yarn. It was a nice tour, and the famer was really nice to show my group the process of making yarn as well as the care and handling of the alpacas. The farm is close to where I live. So now I can say that I go directly to the souce of the yarn and meet the livestock that provides the wool. That is about as snobby as you can get. To be honest, I bought the yarn to support a local farmer. It's beautiful and super soft yarn. It's a lot more expensive than I'm used to. A 100g ball was about $60. It was affordable for a pair of socks or mittens. I can't afford to but the quantity for a sweater. The yarn I bought was a natural color undyed and unbleached. Now, back to the original question. I buy all kinds of yarn from cheap to somewhat pricy. I mostly crochet, but I'm learning to knit more little things like socks. Obviously, I'm not necessarily going to use the same yarn for a crochet handbag as I am for knitted socks. I can pay more for sock yarn than I would for an afghan. For clothing, I prefer natural fibers but will use some synthetic ones such as acrylic. I do like wool. I also use cotton if I'm making dishcloths and kitchen accessories. Cotton is more heat resistant than acrylics and is a safety thing. Toys and purses, I prefer acrylics.

Regarding the Woolens and Nosh, I’m pretty sure she mentioned that she made the stripes a little thicker this year. I feel like she said that in the original IG post from earlier this year or something like that. In previous years each 50g skein had two full repeats and she said she didn’t want to do that. I only got like 19 or 20 stripes on mine this year. I’m just going to use the rest for fingerless mitts or something.

Stripes with the white, purple, pink - Flax light.

I am currently making my 6yo a flax. I was working on the sleeve while watching this video. When I started your video I said to myself, after it’s done I’ll comment and tell her to make a flax! But I can see you don’t need that recommendation 🤣 I love the rainbow stripe version. I crocheted my daughter a hexie cardigan out of that same yarn and color when she was in preschool. She still wears it two years later and it’s one of her favorites. Right now I’m making her a flax with a blue and a pink yarn, striping every 10 rows. This sweater pattern really is awesome. I can see lots of them in my future for both of my kids. It would be so easy to plug in some colorwork charts from Stone Knits (her sock patterns!) or even Pacific Knit Co doodles. I thought about doing that for the next one.

Thanks for your video! I was on the fence about Annie's kits because I wasn't super clear on how their kit program worked. I emailed the company and they were just providing minimal information in response, which is frustrating and made me not want to purchase because I actually wasn't sure what I was receiving in exchange for a monthly subscription fee. So thank you for providing clarity that the company itself did not. They should send you a commission for my purchase. 😂

I had no idea there were so many different colors in this pattern. I’m still on the fence on ordering one. When you access the online patterns, can you see the instructions for every single kit (1-12), or is the content limited to just the the kits that have been delivered?

I loved your dyed yarn you made for the 2022 MKAL and would love to see your progress on it. Your Aquaman shawl is beautiful. I love to crochet things together. I am so glad I learned to crochet. Years after learning to knit. It really comes in handy. Your sons blanket will be a phenomenal Christmas gift. He will love it!!! And I agree that blocking each square individually would be a good idea. I also tend to block the whole thing afterwards.

The yarn you dyed is beautiful!! That cooper is amazing. I love this idea of dyeing your own yarn for the MKAL Do you mind saying where you bought your base yarn? On the rare times I dye, I usually use Knitpicks but it sounds like you have a merino cashmere nylong base which sounds amazing. I agree with you that I haven't seen many people using variagated or speckled yarn. Mostly they are using solids or tonals. I love all of your yarn!!!

I was planning on dyeing yarn for this too and I was thinking a variagated option for the pop of colour. I like both options you have. But I live option 1

That is my favourite green, and I LOVE that coppery colour you dyed! If the pop options were mine I might leave deciding till the clues start and I get an idea of what might happen before I choose one (or both). I don't think it likely we shall be using the pop colour straight off.

Your Shawlography is so pretty! That Holst Garn looks amazing knit up! I would go with B. The olive and copper are colors that I have been leaning towards for this MKAL. Now I wish you were dying up more so that I can have your colors too. LOL! I still haven't bought a kit. I have too may speckles in my stash and not enough solids. 🙂

Woah. All of your socks are beautiful. I have the hardest time sticking with projects. I just started knitting (been a crocheter for 7 years) and I'm sad to say it but knitting socks intimidates me, but watching everyone else's progress helps.
