Starter removal Seadoo Sea-doo replacement startermotor starter motor boat 1995
FAST starter motor removal
12" - 18" of ratchet extensions and a 13mm were all I needed to get the starter out.
I found that the bottom bolt has to be done by feel since you can't see it at all, and it wasn't terribly difficult to do. The other two bolts were easy to see and simple to remove. Following this, I had to disconnect the negative (black) wire from the battery as it goes directly to the starter. I also had to cut a zip tie that held the positive (red) wire to the hull, and the starter slid out from under the back of the exhaust just as you said. After this, I simply placed it on top of the engine and removed the red wire and the black wire from the old starter with ease.

Totally worked! Thanks for saving me a huge headache! Changed starter on 1997 Sea-Doo SP. I love it when folks find a simple way of doing things. My bracket bolt that was near positive terminal was 6mm allen style, and on negative side were two 13mm that used the long extension. Great tip, thanks again!

How tough was to put it back together ? The bottom bolt ?

Hey Daniel, thanks a bunch because you were right on the money about removing the starter. Your SeaDoo appears to be exactly the same as mine so perhaps that's why. I found that the bottom bolt has to be done by feel since you can't see it at all, and it wasn't terribly difficult to do. The other two bolts were easy to see and simple to remove. As you said, 12" - 18" of ratchet extensions and a 13mm were all I needed to get the starter out. Thanks again for simplifying this otherwise complicated task.

Clears the exhaust? It comes out underneath.
