I would like to thank @kaltsssit for the theme suggestion. I had a lot of fun with this one, creating a a prequel to my Whispers of a Lost Empire trilogy. Let me know if you have any ideas you would like to see me put into life/music

Starting off with this and I already love the eerie plodding of it. It nails that feeling of a centuries-dead city coming back to a sort of half-life, one screen at a time. Like a necromantic ritual to revive the rotting city itself. Were there any particular inspirations for this album? I'd love to explore the crypts below the city, where the unspoken rituals that dragged the city under took place.

This song made me imagine this: I wake up every morning to the ever-collecting soot and ash residue that continuously builds on the outside of the window of my 55th floor apartment. It overlooks the shadowy overcast of fog that blankets the city below and above. Despite what any human would have thought 7,000 years ago, the 55th floor of a sky rise like this is inhabited by mostly level-D lower class citizens such as myself. It’s not like we have must of a choice anyways. Believe it or not, I didn’t choose to live in this room, on this floor, in this specific building. I should rewind a bit. My name is 441812-B. My prerogative is to work alongside other class D citizens in sector-A-1-8 to maintain the flow of raw resources from the core of this planet to ‘The Beyond’ as we call it. I’m one of the lucky ones in that I get to work in facilitating the transport rather than collecting the resources or maintaining the structure that conducts the transport. Turnover rate for those sectors are rumored to be in the double digits, except that those people aren’t quitting. They meet a much more grim fate. Though, it’s considered taboo to call them ‘people’ so I should really refrain from it. Those above have “re-educated” us we’ve been instructed to refer to each other as units. “People” is the equivalent of.. a racial slur; an insult - or so they want us to believe. Those above in The beyond. Those that reside past the artificial layer of pure white clouds that we will never see beyond. Formally, they are referred to as class A, but down here we just refer to them the same way we refer to the domain they reside in. “The Beyond.” A little bit of poetic justice if you will. It’s only fair since they insist we refer to each other as units. To us, The Beyond aren’t people. The Beyond isn’t a place. It’s a concept.. an idea.. a mere figment of our imagination.. a life we will never get to experience. Its enigmatic nature will forever continue to elude us all, as have its inhabitants. To be honest, we don’t even know if those that reside in The Beyond are even human to begin with. Anybody below level A hasn’t had any contact with the beyond for about seven centuries now, and the last person to do so was a level B citizen who was simply in the right place at the wrong time. Take that as you will since to this day that citizen’s last know location remains unknown. Every day on the way down to my transport station, I have the same intrusive thought with that dammed artificial cloud layer in view from the glass wall of my building’s elevator, but I know will never act upon it. We, as a whole, know we’ll never act upon it. The entrance to The Beyond is virtually impossible to access. You’ve probably heard the phrase “abandon hope all ye who enter here.” Well, there isn’t a more perfect way to describe the area between my personal little hell and the manmade heaven we’ll never touch, let alone see. From the tales I’ve heard, death would be a mercy for those unsuccessful in reaching The Beyond. I don’t know what that even means, or what horrors await anyone who dares find out, but I try not to think of it too much. Not that I have to try too much anyways. The screeching sound of the machinery halting the elevator to a stop, and the pungently, putrid smell of an unholy amalgamation of smoke, rusted and aged machinery, and the bowels of the deepest areas of this planet strike your senses like a truck the second that door opens and you step out into the foggy air awaiting your transport. You become accustomed to it as you do to everything, but truth is, I’m not sure how much longer I can take this. How much longer I can continue in this torturous monotonous cycle of chasing absolutely nothing. I’m but a mere barcode in a system, a gear in a machine, and that’s all I’m destined to be. Everyday, surrounded by the monochrome scenery of the skyscrapers housing the millions and millions of units, I stand on the very edge of my transport station, staring into the deep, dark chasm from where the foundation-shaking metallic clashes and ground-vibrating deep growls of machines so colosal you’d never be able to see them in their entirety without being a few hundred miles away, echo as they operate in unison, digging deeper and deeper into this planet. Everyday I inch ever closer to joining them forever.
