Had a chance to see them here in Toronto area around 1985 but didn't know them yet and declined my friend Mitchell Edgar's invitation. When I foolishly bring it up upon occasion, he ridicules me vigorously to this day. Dang....
I love this song because it's so critical of the listener. so often I've found myself applying the lyrics to others but each time I do, I later feel I'm missing the point. this song has to be about the listener, because you're the only one who can really see that your 'head is in the clouds'.

I always assumed Bob wrote this about working with Grant, and Grant’s addiction. Could be about anything though. But I see this video, Grant has to play it and sing along, and I always wondered if it irritated him. It’d be hard to have an addiction and not think it was about you.
@noserly It does make sense. Besides, there are some Grant's interviews in which he said that he didn't like this "phase" of Flip your wig/Makes no sense at all, because it was getting too commercial/pop.
What makes no sense at all is that the Replacements, who couldn’t get a break or give themselves one, had these crisp b/w videos that were piss takes. These guys were really trying hard to succeed and by this time we’re doing pretty well by comparison and yet this video looks like it’s shot with a home video camera straight to VHS. I love the Mats btw so it’s not a dig on them or Husker Du. Just weird.
I love Grant’s dance with the old woman. He once said that he doesn’t like people’s head banging or weird gestures, he likes people to dance in his shows. RIP Grant, may you Rest In Peace.
@@MikeRinaWedding2022 wow, you have a cool auntie, she seems really kindhearted. Also you have a sincere cousin, he’s a great pal. I wish them a long happy life… .
If they would have tightened up their lyrics a little and had some better production, they could have been huge. They've got a good raw sound, just a little too raw.
@@dj-um7el Their sound was punk, but punk had been over for a few years in 1984-1985. They were better musicians than most punk bands, too. They needed to evolve, like The Police did. I think they would have benefited from a good producer. If they would have had Bruce Vig as a producer, that album could've been huge for them. Some bands overshoot their potential, but Husker Du never realized their potential.
The problem is they were too early, if they emerged late 80s early 90s they would have been much more mainstream. Kinda glad they werent though, becuase they have a special spot in music history. Good song 🎵
Yeah, it's weird, I'm glad they aren't that mainstream, but at the same time, more people should be listening to them. They should have the same popularity as bands like The Misfits, The Velvet Underground and The Damned.
I've watched Husker Du live and they had the most intense set I've ever witnessed. It go f'n loud. Bob Mould would play straight into his amp. Those guys did not tone down the intensity at all until Bob Mould announced that the drummer (Grant Hart) had herpes and they had to leave. It was early, too, when they were still sort of obscure. Less than 100 people. I'll never forget that show.
Geraldo plays bass?!
ANOTHER TIMELESS CLASSIC! 80"S MUSIC RULES!! the dj

The band for a lifetime.
Happy 64th birthday BOB MOULD! 10/16/24.

If the Foo Fighters were actually good…
Awesome band! Very underrated.

The first modern rock band
They needed more dynamics in their recordings otherwise a brilliant band ,
Not everything needs to be more dynamic. But yes, they are a brilliant band.
@@dj-um7el I guess. I think their overall sound is a bit Brickwallish It gets in the way of the brilliant songwriting.
@@frankjamesbonarrigo7162 Not really, their sound is just right. They are more than just this song
@@dj-um7el Well Im talking to fans of the band. So I don't expect people to agree with the idea of their sound being different
@@frankjamesbonarrigo7162 If you're not a fan, why are you here? Lol
One of my favorite bands

Vou raspar minha barba e vou deixar meu bigode crescer igual do baixista Norton.
Clássico demais, né? hahaha
Lol nice
Pop shit like beatles.
Ok? What's wrong with it? At least Husker Du and The Beatles are good Pop.
Seeing them play this in early 1986 at First Ave was so satisfying!
should have been a hit single.

This isn't even close to too raw lol Ever heard The Sonics or Warsaw Joy Division?

@@ellavaderknows I mean, I guess you got a point, but I wouldn't want them to go completely clean in production and full-on Pop.
Darn I was waiting to see Bob and the band toss their berets up in the air in an epic freeze frame.
First band I emulated when I learned to play guitar. It was harder than I thought.

What an incredible band they were...
If things don't make sense, one can bet that one is not being told the truth. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Told you it would look like this. TY!
This is our highly respected and revered Mpls band. Grant, Bob and Greg! Thanks for all the great songs and concerts!
Now I see who influenced the Goo Goo Dolls! For all the later pop fans, yes, GGD actually sounded just like these guys.
This song just popped into my head. Haven't thought about this song since I was a teenager.
Husker Du not being in the HOF makes no sense at all.
Massive influence on me...

Husker Du, Replacements and REM. 3 of the best alt rock bands of the 80s!
