As what I've learned in our discussion is that, tests are considered as an important tool or method of assessments. It assess what students have learned after the completion of a unit or lesson. For instance, tests are helpful and functional when they would help to measure the achievement of learning outcomes for learning objectives. In addition, tests help the students to prepare for the examination and it will give them an immediate feedback for students know what should they able to improve. We can't deny the fact that in my own experience and some students sometimes are struggling with the tests because there are problems with the construction of the tests, difficult to comprehend the questions or maybe some items are not aligned with the content and objectives of the lesson. Thus, in making an objective types of tests, it is important to do an item analysis. Item analysis is a statistical techniques which is used for selecting and rejecting the items of the test, hence, it ensures the usefulness and functionality especially in objective type of tests in order to determine if the questions are valid, adequate to measure students achievement on learning outcomes, improve and evaluate the quality of the tests for example where there are items in the tests that should be retain, revise or discard. Therefore, item analysis helps the students to examine the questions of students individual responses in item question and to determine what is correct and wrong answers the teachers will evaluate or give immediate feedback with the students for students to know and give them a chance to answer the questions just like what the teacher repeating in giving of questions what should they be able to improve and to improve their learning also increase their higher-order thinking.
One of the most important educational tools is the test. Test, when properly developed and interpreted, can assist instructors in better understanding what their students are learning, identifying specific areas that require clarification, and improving both teaching and learning experiences. Item analysis, on the other hand, is a tool for determining whether the test that the student took was useful or functional, and whether the learning outcomes were met. Item analysis is also used to determine the quality of a test by examining each individual item or question and determining its soundness. It aids in the identification of individual items or questions that are not good questions and whether they should be discarded, retained, or revised.
The test is useful and functional in that it assesses students’ understanding of a specific topic that leads to wether your teaching is effective. I have learned that the validity and reliability of any test are eventually determined by the type of items. Item analysis can be used to develop high reliability and validity into a test in ahead of time. In addition, tests can be enhanced by selecting, substituting, or revising items.
I learned that if teachers want to produce a quality examination or test, we must do an Item analysis. Item analysis is a statistical tool used for selecting and rejecting exam items of the test. This means it helps determine whether we revise the item or retain the item.
I have learned that Item analysis is a step to identify the desired items of a test. This serves as an aid to create valid and reliable test items. It assesses students' individual exam, as well as sustain the fairness of each item.
The test is used as a progress instrument for assessing if pupils have successfully obtained the intended learning outcome at the end of the class. It also plays an important function in identifying areas that need to be improved and those that should be kept. These are the problems that instructors should focus on and keep in mind, as they will serve as the foundation for providing desirable interventions and remedial instructions to enhance their pupils' academic standing and monitor their development.
I learn that doing item analysis is very important before we decide whether to reuse or recycle the existing test item or examination, that's why sometimes, some questions in exam are repeated especially in finals because the question quality is reliable and valid. This is why this item analysis is required.
Test is relevant most especially in the teaching and learning process. Test is used as a success indicator in determining whether the students have successfully achieved the expected learning outcome that needs to be acquired at the end of the lesson. It also plays a vital role in identifying the areas that needs to be improved and the strengths that are to be maintained. These are the challenges that teachers should focus and bear in mind, considering that this will serve as their basis in giving desired interventions and remedial instructions to improve more the academic standing of their students and monitor their progress. By doing such, good learning process is at hand too and there will be a smooth flow of academic atmosphere in class.
A test is helpful or functional when it highlights the learning outcomes or desired outcomes that the students need to achieve. I mean that when they undergo testing, they can know for themselves what they should improve. The test is a crucial part of learning, and for me, it is not an option but a necessity. It is necessary because the results of the test will prompt teachers and other stakeholders to provide necessary interventions to help students achieve their desired outcomes. When that intervention is employed, they will value learning and keep on improving.
