It’s too bad old buildings like the original courthouse or 1920s CN train station have been demolished

The old photos are stunningly beautiful in themselves. These buildings have survived and are now encircled by magnificent modern structures. Considering Halifax experienced the 1917 explosion she has retained much of her former beauty and glory. Modern Halifax has done well growing in a way that does not forget the past. I absolutely love the central library! Now she needs an Aquarium, better recreational and sports facilities, a new art gallery, and an Opera House that would serve/support many musical expressions. Halifax needs a new era of public buildings to complement these pictures and beautiful new highrises. 🙂

My least favorite city of any I've lived in.

how does a city look 10x better 100 years from today. Look around today and saint john looks like shit.

Alot of those building are still standing today.

That last postcard of Woodstock, that's all under water now from the Macaquac Dam head pond..

Paul, my Uncle, Alfred Bryan(b. Brantford, 1871) lived here for a time before he left for Chicago, over a hundred years ago. Would you happen to know which street his house was on(he was a very famous songwriter/lyricist back in the day). I would love to do some more research on him.

The Civic arena was torn down in order to put up 2 condo towers but the deal fell through

4:50 S.S. Noronic was a passenger ship built in 1913 in Port Arthur. In Sept.1949 it caught fire while docked in Toronto Harbour with the loss of 119 passengers lives.

What an impressive collection of pictures of Cornerbrook. Thank you for taking the time to compile all of these images and sharing them with us. I also want to mention that my great grandfather from Glasgow Scotland was one of the many men who were instrumental establishing the papermill there. He worked as an estimator in town Superintendent from 1923 to 1927.

The beautiful street lights we used to have going down Commercial. I know the current ones may be more 'functional' but I feel we have traded beauty for function too often. Of well. These gorgeous lights would just be broken if they were down there now.....

Born in Halifax and moved to Europe as a young boy the memories of NS never left me and I returned 22 years ago, glad to be home finally.

I didn't know Torbay had such beautiful parks and trails! Definitely going to take those in.
