I can massively relate to Brina in looking at Ciel from a new perspective. As a teenager I didn't get all the nuances and idiosyncricies of his character probably because I was still a kid myself (and honestly as an undiagnosed autistic teen I kind of related to how he thought of others and his distrust of others, his self-inflicted isolation and such.) But I read the public school arc whilst still in school and related big time to how he was a fish out of water and having to stick to tons of random rules that were pointless and everybody understood but me. I shared his opinion of MacMillian though since I cut ties with anybody I went to school with ASAP because of the trauma it caused me. As an adult I realise just how much of a strong kid Ciel actually is, but that the reason he's so strong is because he's built such strong walls around himself with very few arrow slits, (his adorable little tantrums and when he gets all flustered) but that they can tumble down as easy as they're built. The scene where Ciel has a panic attack in the circus arc is testament to how those seemingly strong fortifications are actually so fragile, and I was reminded of this a couple of times during Public School arc. First being the art room scene where we do see that Ciel isn't acting the whole time, his panic does seem to be quite real and the fact he was willing to do that for the sake of guard dog duty makes me take my hat off to him. And the second when he's hit be the cricket ball. Whilst at first glance both are unrelated the scream he lets out took me right back to book of circus and the panic attack scene and all I could see was a scared little kid even though that wasn't Ciel in that moment and he was acting. Now that the Emerald Witch arc has been confirmed it will be interesting to see the shift in both Ciel and Sebastian when the walls fully come down and that will presumably be a challenge for both Michael and Brina.
