  • @jordanbailey653
    @jordanbailey653 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This really is an ingenious idea, I can't imagine how much work that must have been though! Are you planning to put handles on the shades? Looks like kind of a pain to pull them up. Also, do they stay up okay? I worry they'd shift and fall down while you're moving.

    • @living-off-the-grid
      @living-off-the-grid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. It sure was a ton of work. We have a tendency to over engineer things. :D But we totally love it now. Most of the panels are nice and snug, some might fall down while driving, and we will need to figure out a way to increase the friction (maybe with a little bit of felt or something). But for now we are just happy this is "done" for now. We will install handles, probably in the form of the window sill itself, so you pull on the sill ledge and the shade comes up. That will be part of the million trim pieces and finishing pieces we need to install some time. :D

  • @KI5HKUCraig
    @KI5HKUCraig 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Impressive. I was wondering about installing shades on all windows, seeming to indicate that there will be no full length cabinets going in, from floor to ceiling? Or even shelving? I too have used a ton of riv nuts in my van build for panels or things that need to be periodically removed. The bolts will wiggle loose, depending on how much driving and vibrating they get. I am hesitant to use any thread locker on them, as I have found the quality of the nuts and bolts can lead to small galling/cross threading, and once you spin a nut loose in the metal, you will have a heck of a time getting the bolt out. Coming along nicely....

    • @living-off-the-grid
      @living-off-the-grid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Craig. We definitely noticed the threads of these riv-nuts not to be the best, and made sure to put a dab of oil on them. Especially since the bolts are stainless, so they really grind in them. As to the rattling loose, we probably won't drive the bus too much, but I was wondering about that as well.

  • @KI5HKUCraig

    Been following along, as I was one of the folks who played a part in the property where you will eventually land. Was content just watching your progress, but this video was something that I can relate to. I have a solar/camping/exploring van that I have been working on for a few years.
