Abandoned Fort Used in the Revolutionary War
This historic military fort was built in 1746 and used in the American Revolutionary War. Remodeling began in 1901 and construction was finished in 1905. During WW2, it was used to defend Portsmouth and the harbor from German invasion. The fort was deactivated after the war but used as a training facility for the navy during 1950-1980. Now it’s a free public state park for all to enjoy.
