Hello, and thank you for watching this video. In this video, I followed Rick Steves' audio guide for my journey through the Vatican Museums. Yes, you can skip the Octagonal Courtyard by following this path: Just as you're about to enter the Pinecone Courtyard through the door, look to your left - you'll find stairs there. If you go up the stairs, you'll reach the Constantine Sarcophagi Room. From there, by going up one more level via the stairs, you'll arrive at the Gallery of the Candelabra. From there, you can continue on your path to the Sistine Chapel. After visiting the Sistine Chapel, head toward the exit within the Vatican Museums, not the one leading to St. Peter's Basilica. You'll likely reach the same spiral staircase that you encountered when you first entered the museum after obtaining your tickets (the escalator and spiral staircase). I'm not entirely certain about this, as the exit is typically a separate door from the entrance area where we first enter the museum. To clarify this, please seek assistance from the museum's ground staff once you reach the spiral staircase. The Vatican Museums can be quite extensive and may require some guidance. I'd also like to mention that there's typically a one-way flow of people in the museum, with visitors moving forward in a designated direction. I hope this response has been helpful. Thanks for watching the video. No, those people are not tourists. Tourists can pray in Basilica, but not near the Altar or during Mass. Other areas are available(at 7:10)

Hi there, thanks for watching my video! The ceiling of the Map Gallery is not actually made of sculptures, but of frescoes. Frescoes are a type of painting that is done on wet plaster. The artists who painted the ceiling, Cesare Nebbia and Girolamo Muziano, used a technique called "trompe l'oeil" to create the illusion of three-dimensionality. This technique involves using perspective and shading to make the paintings appear to come alive.
