Mostly printed 4th axis for MPCNC. First run
มุมมอง 60K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Did file converted to gcode using dxf2gcode. The y axis toolpath wrapped around E axis to drive rotary axis on Marlin extruder output. Software used was a modified version of Scorchworks gcode ripper. CNC platform is the awesome MPCNC. Go to www.vicious1.com for details.

Just a quick explanation of firmware mods you may need to consider if you're planning to run a high-powered laser on your MPCNC.
Mpcnc laser engraving anodized aluminum

Just a quick test.Anodized Aluminum engraved fine at 800mm/sec but focus was not good considering the round object and poor fixturing. I need a rotary axis!

    Okay. This is great but I want to make 6 to 8" bed posts on my MPCNC. I need a bigger set of collets! LOL Can you make these bigger on Thingiverse? That would be great - and make a video that is a little more informational for slower guys like me. Sorry, I can't see how you built the whole thing to work with the MPCNC. Could you do a step by step, please. Thanks bro. I'm not as lost as I was six hours ago. Does that help?

    You should do a video on the g ripper mod and the cam process. Great work

    • @xochi69
      @xochi69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fpvdrone1325 Check my other videos. I have one where I'm doing some cutting on the rotary and it explains the process a bit. The developer of gcode ripper is Scorchworks and there's some good documentation on his site too. I just modded his software a bit to allow selection of E axis for rotary. This allows you to use Marlin firmware and extruder output.

    • @Fpvdrone1325
      @Fpvdrone1325 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo Urtiz would you be willing to share the modified g ripper software?

    • @xochi69
      @xochi69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fpvdrone1325 The design is posted on Thingiverse and the link is in the video description. The modified gcode ripper software is attached to the Thingiverse page, along with STL files and bill of materials.

    • @Fpvdrone1325
      @Fpvdrone1325 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo Urtiz one last question did you make any modifications to the Marlin firmware you like the E steps for millimeters

    • @xochi69
      @xochi69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fpvdrone1325 Lol, you're challenging me here because it's been a while since I did any cutting on the rotary. As far as Marlin goes, by default it won't allow the extruder to run unless the hot end is up to melting temp so you'll need to find a setting called "allow cold extrusion" or something like that and enable it. The steps per mm should be set to the large timing gear which is a 25 tooth xl gear with 5.08mm pitch. You can use the steps per mm calculator online to calculate. For a 1.8degree stepper with 1/16 stepping you should end up at 25.2 steps per mm. That setting should only need to be set in firmware once. After that, you'll use gcode ripper to generate wrapped code which does the work for you. I'm a little foggy on this stuff so hope the info is good. My rotary design requires quite a bit of z travel on your cnc. There are other lower profile designs available now which look decent too and the gcode ripper should work with those too once you figure out steps per mm for initial setup. Good luck!

    • @xochi69
      @xochi69 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No guide.What are you interested in implementing? I've switched back to mach3 and abandoned Marlin but i think i still have that modified firmware saved somewhere. The pwm was pretty easy to set up but i was having issues with ghosting in the image because the newly added laser control gcodes weren't being processed by the Marlin planner correctly. I did work all the bugs out before i posted this video though.

      Yeah i think i do.I'll link here if i find it. keep I mind that change won't really be noticeable unless you run high powered laser .not using the m106/m107 commands is an added benefit if you plan to do 3d printing and need the extruder fan control.
