Well, ladies and gentlemen what can I say. I took this up as a hobby about 8 years ago. I picked up a couple cheap bike on Marketplace and proceeded to make a ton of errors but still managed to get them back together and running My first 2 bikes were street bikes. A Yamaha Maxim 550 which I ended up passing on to my son, and a Suzuki GSX1100GS that I ended up riding all the way to North Carolina from my home in Illinois. Next was a Honda GL500 Silverwing that I gifted to my other son out on the left coast in Oregon. None of these bikes ran when I brought them home . I put together a XV750 that was missing a few parts because the owner was parting it out. The day I brought it home I hooked up a battery just to see if it would turn over and I was shocked because it started up and ran on what was in the float bowl. At that point I bought a GoPro and switched to mostly 2 stroke enduros and dirt bikes and here I am today.
Kawasaki G4TR Trail Boss Shift Problem fixed Time to reassemble
Well folks, this "Old Guy" finally got the transmission shifting but I'm slow as Molasses in January at getting things done. I got the right side of the engine ready to accept the carburetor and the left side is almost to the point where next time I'll be installing the Hi/Lo changer.

Kawasaki G4TR C Finally Shifts
มุมมอง 14121 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This will be a short one. I just wanted to let my loyal followers know that I finally got the Kawasaki G4TR-C Trail Boss to shift, and that I'll be putting the engine back together and get this engine back in the frame soon. I won't be doing another video on this bike until it's running and I'm able to ride it. eMail - Hanover.jack@gmail.com
Harvesting parts from a 1965/6 Yamaha YDS3 engine
มุมมอง 29914 วันที่ผ่านมา
I take apart a locked up engine to get a part to fix my YDS3-C Big Bear. This probably won't be of interest to you unless you are taking apart a similar engine. The fact that the engine was full of rust made the job considerably more challenging.
YDS3 C Big Bear Ignored but not forgotten

I've been working on a Kawasaki G4TR-C Trail Boss but had to order parts so looking at my screen backdrop picture I decided to do something different. Here's a Before and After of this old, probably 65 or 66, Big Bear. I'll come back to it one of these days just like I did with the Trail Boss.

Kawasaki G4TR C Trailboss engine removal
มุมมอง 159หลายเดือนก่อน
It's only the 3rd time I've removed the engine because it wasn't in the frame when I bought it. It's the 4th time I will have attempted to fix a shift problem. Wish me luck since I obviously have no skill with transmissions.

DT175B Stator Rebuild
มุมมอง 1712 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been dormant in the TH-cam scene for a while. Just being lazy, which is allowed at my age. Anyway, I have been putting parts together for a DT175B and this is one of the things I needed. I had one from a parts bike, but it was not in good shape, so I decided to see if I could take care of that. The wiring supplies I used came from Vintage Connections. www.vintageconnections.com
Yamaha YDS3C Big Bear Used Parts for Sale
มุมมอง 1663 หลายเดือนก่อน
I needed a few parts of a YDS3C (Big Bear) project and found that it was cheaper to buy a parts bike that popped up on Facebook Marketplace than to buy all the parts individually. So here's what's left over.
Once again the DT250A is defying my efforts to repair it
มุมมอง 9434 หลายเดือนก่อน
I spent a couple hours today rectifying my error of yesterday and then looking at a couple things that may be contributing to the poor performance of this DT250A. I found one minor problem with the carb as well. The bike runs like a 2 cylinder that's running on 1. Stabbing in the dark, or if you prefer taking a WAG; I ordered new crank seals. Very expensive crank seals BTW.

Good job Jack.
The end of the tunnel is in sight.
@ yes it is as long as it shifts.
Getting there Jack.
in the old days, you knew where neutral was without a light!
Not on this one Frank. Neutral is on the bottom then 5 up. Trying to confuse us old guys I think.
@@oldguysoldbikes i was referring to the days before the neutral light, when you just learned where neurtral was.
hi, Jack
Good morning Frank. It's a balmy -11° here in northern Illinois. Water pipes to the kitchen are frozen and the new furnace is struggling, but maintaining some of the house at normal 68°. Have a good MLK day.
@@oldguysoldbikes kind of looking forward to celebrating the inauguration.
Thanks! 🏍
nice job Jack!
Congrats Jack I know that is a weight off your back.
Hey Cain! you watch Jack too!
@ yes sir.
Jack did you determine the reason why it didnt shift or was it magic?
Totally FM. I put the old gears back and turned the clutch shaft by hand. At first it had a little resistance but then clicked and when I turned the shift came it was resisting a bit but turning. I sprayed the gears and shift cam down with oil and everything seems to be working. Guess I'll find out when I get it mounted in the bike.
HI, Cain/Jack.
Here
That was tough. Good luck brother. Happy new year
Thanks Cain. I'll be back on the Kawasaki tomorrow.
Whew, I was sweating that one right along with you Jack! Perseverance pays off again. Good job on rescuing those parts.
I was going to get it one way or the other. I just hope the one on the bike comes off easier.
old engines leak like old people.LOL
Yup
right side chain sort of unusual.
And left side kick starter. Must have been a British engineer on the design staff.
TY kind sir for your videos:) Im a ole 2 stroke lover from way back, my first was a 1973 TS 185 Suzuki, I got it in 1975 and I was 14 Geeze we made so many awesome memories:)), my bikes kept getting bigger, had a 1975 KX 250 then a 1976 RM 370, and after high school I had a 1974 H2 Kawasaki triple 2 stroke street bike. she was my best bike ever even tho she almost Killed me, I was 18 when I got the H2 and crashed at 20 years old:( Fixed the lights / turn signals and rode for a few more years:))))
Sounds like you've had a lot of fun Albert. I've been riding off and on from around 1960 when I bought a Whizzer engine for my Schwinn bicycle.
@@oldguysoldbikes Thats so cool:) I did have tons of fun, and later in life I rode a Honda 4 stroke thumper 650L and loved the bike even tho im a short man at only 5'7" but used tall riding boots lolz:) true story, I would still be riding now at 64 But I had back surgery and my riding days are a fond memory I will always Cherrish :)))))
Did you turn the choke on,
It's been a few months, but even though I didn't mention it I'm sure I did. The fact that it wouldn't fire with gas injected directly into the cylinder is an indication of a bigger problem I think. I haven't forgotten this bike, but I ordered a complete new wiring harness. I'll get back to it in the spring. Thanks for watching and commenting Martin and I wish you a very Happy and Prosperous 2025.
I saw an engine case available on eBay for 40 dollars. It appears to be in good condition!
Thanks William. I had another bike that I had thought I might use the engine out of for a roller I have, but decided to sacrifice it for the greater good. The engine is not real easy to disassemble, but I've got it on the bench and I'm almost there. Just one more difficult bolt before I can separate the case halves Then it will probably be spring before I pull the engine that I'm going to fix out of the bike.
Good Job and I hope You find that case You need! Back in 1967 I had a Honda CL77 305 Scrambler and My friend Bought that Big Bear and We rode the wheels off of those Bikes. Brings back some great Memories Jack have a Merry Merry and a great New Year!
Get the case aluminium welded by a professional. It won't cost much and the best way to go for permanent repair. I've done it numerous times.
Thanks Paul, I did consider that. I'm going to check this out when the winter is winding down and decide which way to go. I can't remember which side the serial number is on but I'd like to keep it matching with the frame if possible so that's the best solution for doing that.
i have one in good shape if you are interested ,its being bored1st over and never fired up,its all stock with papers .
Thanks Bob, I'll keep your @boblee1078 handy in case I decide to go that route.
Very nice ! Did you do the paint work
you got your work cut out for you on this baby!🥴🥴
Just have to fix the hole in the transmission and she'll be ready to go Frank. I do have another case if it comes down to that. I definitely need a heated garage. Other than the turn signal mounts all the other stuff is as good as I can make it without the expense of re-chroming.
enjoyed your video, nice work to reserrect the old bike.i build back a few myself, im at a community bar and a teenager with a honda 50,i hear a big two stroke comming up the road, what a sound..was to be a Big Bear

dont worry about the mess, you said your son will eventually have the house and a bull dozer will probably be next.
Yup, Not going to worry too much. Just like to have it a little neater place to start work because it will get messier as I go.
im here Jack!😁
Years ago i did the same thing with a Suzuki 4x4 3 cly two stroke , while i was camping in Queensland AU , striped all the exhaust off ,got the camp fire going chucked it on , next morning refitted it then on to Cook town .
You do your job very well, my friend. I have a 1974 DT1 250 just like that one, I'm trying to rebuild it and I'd like to know if you have some parts that I'm missing.
What parts do you need Nestor? I don't have much left because once I determined that I had all of the major parts I needed for my bike I put everything I had left onto a frame and sold it off for cheap a year ago.
I need the left rear light, the handlebars, the rev cable, the carburetor, the small drive gear cover, the 2 black covers on the sides, the throttle cable, the rubber bands that go under and on the sides of the fuel tank, the switch and the key. That's all I can remember at the moment.
@@nestorgonzalez7634 It sounds like you were the one that bought the parts bike I sold. The only one of those parts that I have is the rubber dampers for the front of the gas tank. There are no rubber bands on the gas tank. Other earlier models used a rubber strap to hold the back of the tank but the DT250 uses a bolt down tank. Good Luck Nestor. When I work on my own stuff all my tools are green energy renewable alcohol powered.
Well you got it out. Good job brother.
jack you need a small chunk of a screen door spring, remember those?
This was the only spring in the box of parts when I put this thing together so I put it here. Looking at the picture on Partzilla, it appears that this spring is too long and the coils are too thick.
Jack i have a 1973 Suzuki TC-100 with similar style hi/lo, doesn't take long to understand why these bikes didnt catch on. i pored over Dale Swegers video trying to understand and it finally sunk in.
how is your close up vision Jack?, mine isnt good glasses on glasses off magnifier in one hand flash light in my mouth heaven forgive if i drop a nut! the time is coming to call it a day on mechanical work for me anyway.
Let's just say that when I watch 2Vintage pick up a pilot jet and read the numbers without squinting or holding it 6 inches from his eye...I'm jealous. I just bought one of those old fashioned magnifying lamps that you mount to the bench off of Marketplace.

Hi Dean. It is a nice bike and I'm going to make it whole again if it kills me. You like my hat, huh? I wanted a Stetson, but all I could afford was this cheap imitation straw hat made of plastic.

Thanks Don. I use iMovie. It hasn't got a load of features, but for a simple mind it's a simple APP.
I like this version but I think it also needs how you got it in the house from the first edit.

Would love to see that honda baby dream running hopefully its in the future
I would as well, It will be next year I'm afraid, David. If I would have had the handicap ramp I built for my Mom that would have been my winter project, However Mom is gone and it needed work, so I had to tear it out or spend money fixing it. Maybe my son will build a ramp for me someday.
