Welcome to The Dropzone Channel,
Have you ever wondered what would happen to an object if you dropped in into the ocean? How would it behave under the crushing affects of hydrostatic pressure? Would it implode? How deep could it go? What sound would it make?
I designed and built a custom one-of-kind device to find out. This deep ocean chamber will simulate descents into the deep ocean, recording in high resolution 4K video and high fidelity audio for the very first time.
If you have an idea about a particular object you would like to see crushed under immense pressure, email us at thedropzonechannel@gmail.com or add your idea suggestions in the video comment sections and we'll find out what happens...
Enjoy!

I went for the thumbs up about 6 times during this video xD
Your humor combined with your voice is excellent!
Neymar Jr, I choose you!!n
1 star, bartender missed the shotglass and poured CO2 all over
This one was awesome, and definitely beautiful. Really cool to see it hit it's triple point like that. 👍👍
4min - I hope you're not just gonna lead us on, with those big cubes calling 11min - I was wrong, everything about this is interesting and surprising 😂
Tell your wife your jacket makes you look very handsome!
Find a slow-motion channel to collaborate with. I thought the bottle would implode at the bottom near the air bubble, but that's not what it looked like happened. It would be really interesting to see it in ultra slow mo.
Soda, beer, and water... but in cans. And some canned foods too. Tuna, something that fills the whole can, like cream of mushroom, and maybe a quick biscuit roll.
Happy New Year, and congrats on a huge 2024 :)
Your intro is really excellent
I had to watch this in 1.25 speed
I saw some time ago on a short that one researcher has tested what happened to a plastic cup when dropped in the ocean; after retrieving it... it was half it's size. I don't know further more info, but am wondering if you may be able to recreate this... ? Please?
Already done. Check out Styrofoam cups on episode 15.
I tried to estimate the density of CO2 by observing how fast the liquid “bubbles” rise. Simple model has a constant speed for the rising liquid bubbles. Comes from balancing the rising force (proportional to differences in densities of water and CO2), and the drag force (proportional to speed squared of the “bubble”). Then at two different pressures, say 57 bar and 144 bar, compare the (ratio of differences in densities) to the (ratio of the speeds^2) to check the model. Inconclusive result. Could not find small spherical liquid bubbles of the same size. This is a very cool video. Thanks Dropzone for doing this :)
Imagine being a deep sea fish just mincing about down at the bottom of the ocean only to be surround by exploding Tabasco sauce bottles which first deafen and then burn from the acidity and capsaicin.
I’ve had nightmares about that scenario in the beginning.. drop dead terrifying
3:44 I work with pressure vessels and when I saw the size of those locking lugs my heart skipped a beat.
Really niche and captivating!! Tyty
3:16 "Never place dry ice in a sealed container" Proceeds to put dry ice into a sealed container.
The bubbles were funny with how slow they would glub off.
Apple juice Haha
What dictates the rate of "decent" across all of your tests? Is it something you do manually? A setting in the controller? Something about the physical properties of the objects inside?
I like your professionalism, humor, little factoids you toss out once in a while. It is a brilliant idea to make a channel of stuff imploding in a pressure chamber. The first time I saw one of your videos I got hooked right away. Just the way you presented it, ya know that first impression. So here is something. Years ago I read that when they did a dive on an old warship, the cordite from the powder bags had transformed into long cylindrical rods. But was still explosive. There was a photo...and it looked weird. Almost like a crystalline structure that just grew straight as a rod. I am not sure if that is a function of time, or pressure though. Maybe you could check this out in your doohickey? Congrats, and hope to see your channel grow and more interesting episodes.
Wonder how one of those mini Tabasco bottles that used to be put in MREs would hold up...
Did you use salt water?
I use freshwater. I don't want to deal with corroding the fittings.
IT WOULD BE COOL TO KNOW WHAT THE TEMP IS LIKE AT THESE EXTREME PRESSURES. ITS STILL AWESOME VID COOL WORK
Damn, it's been a year already? This is by far the best sleeper channel in YT. Happy new year.
Might as well try some liquid butane canisters, lighter fuel types. No clue what'll happen there. Maybe the vent will be pushed in, but you'll probably end up with something interesting on dropping the pressure suddenly.
Can't believe this guy doesn't have more views
Has modern society gotten so dumb that they don't realize tossing dry ice into the pool and swimming in it is guaranteed death?
Do meth, not math.. GOTCHA!
Looked like a big blob of molten wax at one point, so cool!
You are recreating one of the proposed methods for storing Co2 on the ocean floor. I’m excited to see if it works. Pressure is supposed to stop it from sublimating.
Who remembers the Russian couple that died while pulling dry ice in a pool. They suffocated! Look it up on TH-cam. Dont play with dried ice.
Thanks for the safety tip! I think that happened in an enclosed space and they used a lot of dry ice so the oxygen got displaced. A small amount is okay as long as the space is well ventilated with fresh air. I had to open my windows when I was transporting it in my car.
@ yes you are correct. It was enclosed. Thank you for the great video!
Subscribed for the gay jacket joke.
Hi it’s Tim. Cool video
Thanks Tim! We should meet up for tennis again.
Probably but the dry ice in its own separate container
The last one you did with the glass was awesome.
Awesome! Brilliant! CAF! Take your pick. :)
12:02 you need to upgrade the chamber patreon it and try to diy it a make it a video weather you succeed or fail and end up just buying a better one cuse I wanna see
22:54 it's the deep ocean lava lamp
0:43 okay before this video even question I have to ask is it even going to stay viable enough to reach deep ocean I mean yes it's all well and cool that you're able to use this deep ocean machine but in reality how real of a possibility is it that dry ice can make it to deep ocean and stay viable
Pressure calcs have not been my best subject, but at 157 bar approx. 23 degrees C, are we seeing Carbon Dioxide in a near liquid state? I could not tell looking at a triple point chart on CO2. Very interesting video.
It would be cool to keep it at the depth and pressure that allows it to make stalagmites and just leave it there for awhile and see what it does.
this tickles my autism!
thats alot of psi
It's surprising to me that liquid CO2 is less dense than water at the pressures required for its existance. The molecular weight of CO2 is more than double.
The strong polarity draws water molecules tightly together.
Over a half hour of something like watching paint dry - At least sort of, made the rest of the day a whole lot better!
