    Could perhaps sudden revolutionary AI advancement help to reach longevity even within only 10 years? Considering AI is way more advanced than it was only 2 years ago.

    • @longevitysummitdublin_
      @longevitysummitdublin_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! It really depends on what aspect of longevity you're referring to. AI is advancing rapidly, and it’s already playing a crucial role in accelerating research and drug discovery. However, achieving substantial breakthroughs in longevity within 10 years is still a topic of debate among experts.

    The one issue I have with this conference is after discounting all those efforts to treat diseases of aging once the disease embedded there is very little left to talk about concerning aging. There is some but not as much as you would think for a conference like this, and most of it is still in mouse or worm studies.

    • @comradecapybara

      you typically need a disease to target in order to get through FDA approval quickly and cheaply, showing that a given therapy cures a disease is a lot easier to prove then something that effects aging more broadly but doesn't effect any one disease enough to demonstrate efficacy.

    Matt is a breath of fresh air in the hype-riddled world of aging and anti-aging science. He is absolutely right on all counts in this talk, including the call for more humility about what we know. The seductive notion that we're going to "solve aging" in some absolute sense is driven by the oldest recorded human fantasy - that we are going to achieve some version of immortality. Seems incredibly unlikely that you can keep entropy out of such a complex system, although you can surely reduce it. The Greeks were correct in their assessment that the pursuit of immortality is an example of human hubris. Unfortunately, lots of folks in the anti-aging hype business haven't learned that lesson. The worst offenders of course are the idiots proposing that we will upload our Consciousness into computers. But there are milder but still quasi delusional versions of this that we are right on the doorstep of living to 200 years. Appealing and seductive nonsense.

    we don't need to wait if we move our clinical research into international waters for the initial treatments. With the use of corporate shell games anonymity can be assured to keep malcontents out. Internet avatars and telemetry to hide identity of researchers from legal devices that would damage their reputations. The FDA should be forced to accept medical devices and drug approvals from the UK and Europe The pricing of drugs must be brought down to cost plus profit pricing and bids for small research companies must be capped .

    What I find interesting is that while there are some animals that do not age at least in terms of diseases of aging they still as a group die at a similar age for their species. So we even if we solve diseases of aging it will not stop an animal from dying from being old. (excluding very primitive systems like the hydra or some jellyfish)
