L, I am glad I found this old post. Needed to be reposted. This Maggot Heart will be nearby me next week. Been playing their stuff on WRFL in Lexington. I am very stoked to see them in the flesh in Cincinnati at The Woodward Theater. Here is my take on this.... This band punches sound that shakes the fleas off the soul. Uno Bruniusson on the kit, drives the beat as he lives inside it. Much power and precision in his playing. Around the 51 to 52 second mark, you feel the train lock into the groove. Odd signature excellence. Olivia Airey is alot like a soldier on bass, unrelenting and the solid metronomic pulse. Her harmony vocals are sweet sublime. Linnéa Olsson on lead vocals and guitar... The twinflower muse. Lyrical genius. The guitar sound is incendiary. Chords that go right for the jugular. Crispy midtone is her wavelength, but it's her phrasing that moves the spirit. Wicked great incantations inside this Maggot Heart. Second Class is fire on a car stereo blasting through late night downtown streets. A city divination, or so I find. Roses is just pure aural sweetness. And Gutter Feeling is an exercise in punk rock craftsmanship. Rock and roll werewolves this mighty band called Maggot Heart. For anyone reading this, check out these tunes when you punch in Maggot Heart. No Song is poetic brilliance. Lyrics from the divine.Zero Hour Day is lava hot, and the chords are from another dimension. And Soul Police is ear candy to the eternal. Uno plays drums like his life depends on it. Olivia on bass, is the depth and urgency to the foundation of these pieces. And Linnea's voice triggers the system to ascend from the depths. The guitar all over this album is otherworldly. their songwriting is on another level comparing to most of what is created these days. Great Jarboe and Darkthrone moments in this track. What's also great, is that it seems to me that this band is beyond the contemporary nostalgic/epigonal trend and is not reducible to their musical influences. Keep on making good music.

Got the album yesterday! So damn good. Motörhead badassery meets rehearsal room chaos and the beautiful ugliness of modern life. And it has great black metal tones. All in all it's fucking hairraising. Best songs for now: Nil by mouth, Archer, This Shadow and Concrete Soup.
