I went a Formula 50mm/2 inch lift but with the Ironman bar and winch on the front and I’d be surprised if it’s back at stock height on my 22 MR GLS. It seems there’s really no options to get a decent lift out of the MR if it has bar and winch on the front (besides spacers and body lift lol NO THANKS), I just cannot find front coils rated for a true 50mm above 100kg! The closest advertised was the kings front coils in the formula 50mm kit which are 50-100kg constant. PSR seem to advertise a 2-3” front strut rated for bar and winch tho, but a lot of cost to change it over and probably make no real significant difference..

When I bought my 2021 Dmax I got a prerego GVM upgrade to 3.45t organized through the dealer based on the planned weights of a tray, canopy and bullbar etc. Wasn’t long before the shock absorber and leaf spring bushes were flogged, springs became inverted and there was a lot banging noise in the rear end. @@JakeSDN thanks for your comment, I’ve seen and have first hand experienced these cheap headunits you have described and they are always better specs than what you actually receive, a good mate of ours did it the cheap way and bought a cheaper unit for around $300, it looked exactly the same as the unit we have. However, it was very laggy, it couldn’t talk to the canbus module, the rear cam and steering wheel buttons don’t work and he has no support from the trusty Chinese supplier. (What a surprise) You also have no Australian law standards for returns or support, the specs of these units are what they say they are and the performance proves that. With ongoing support from Vhedia and warranty here in Australia I’d choose Vhedia every time. If these units from aliexpress are any good, we encourage you to ship them over and start a business. Can I ask some questions, is the sound quality better the the factory unit, with the obd can you get the speedo on the screen and can you get turbo temp ect ect, dose it retain all the factory ports and all controls. What is the gps like as it's installed under the dash, do you need internet to use maps like we do now with the mr or can you down load the maps and that's it even if the phone isn't connected. All steering wheel buttons and everything is retained, legit feels like an oem unit but better With internet the unit itself needs it to run apps but Apple CarPlay will use the internet off your phone, you can tether your phone or do what we do and have a mobile broadband sim in the unit. The MR triton, had one as a work car for ages. Hated it. -The phone connectivity was constantly hit and miss. -The "turbo" seemed to only be there as an asthetic in the engine bay, offering absolutely no detectable difference to its lawnmower engines power output. -The lawnmower engine itself, sure it made the ute go from a to b, but on a higheay, overtaking a road train often involved redlining the bitch and holding it flat strap to get it anywhere near 120 to go round safely. Id hate to see how gutless they are loaded up and or towing a heavy load. -The AC, if you parked in the sun for an hour or more on a hot day, youd start the motor and have the ac going flat out at 18c, and wait outside the vehicle having smoke, then get in, and it still wouldnt cool down. I found that even when you open the rear roof vents and put the rear fan on maximum while the ac was on, it took an awfully long time for any cool air to come through. -The wheel, again parked in the sun for an hour or more, youd need to put a towel over the steering wheel if you wanted to touch it when you got in -the windscreen sensors malfunction in the heat, take three corrigated roads and say goodbye to the front and rear park sensors. -The headlights, standard beam headlights left much to be desired, i found my 25 year old lowered falcon gave better low beam light than the MR. -The fact i couldn't tell my workplace to keep the bucket of crap and just use my 25 year old falcon instead. -The money youd spend buying one and "making it decent" is on par with buying a really good secondhand well built and kept rig like a older hilux or cruiser, which offer that awesome toyota reliability.

Thanks for the update Yan & Stewi - I left the Hilux at home and cycle toured around gorgeous Bruny Island in Summer - good choice with the Triton and its value for money and reliability despite the turbo lag of your gen - thank goodness you didn’t choose a Ford Ranger with tts known poor reliability and design issues - Dmax are known to have body tearing in the engine bay - Chinese brands are cheap for a reason and come with their own in built factory rust (sorry Yu) - I like my Hilux but if budget was a concern I’d happily choose a Triton but not the new one with stop/start ignition and ‘bad driving’ electronic aids issues - I fit accessories myself because of the maverick cowboys in the industry and rely on my avionics/engineering background to do my own wiring including dual battery system - all my heavy canopy items are over the rear axle and I don’t have an extra heavy spare wheel at the back but a spare tyre only and simply use the air compressor - at stage 3 (four year build now) with Sureflo water tank/pump/fully enclosed shower next - I will then get Pedders to add extra comfort rating springs/shocks to support total canopy weight with fuel/water onboard.

Nice review. I just sold a Colorado (only because Holden don't exist anymore) and decided to buy a Triton as I drove them for work a few years back and was impressed.(2X single cabs). Wife used to work for a local multi brand dealership so we went in to buy a base model Triton dual club. Drove out with a GSR 4x4 with lotsa extras for no extra $$$ (the extras, the baseline price was higher) as it was offered under runout deal pricing that couldn't be ignored relative to the base model price. Only put 200KM on it so far and just getting a feel for it. Steering hunts from centreline and the gearbox hunts a bit as well at times. Need to learn to drive it though as it has a smaller wheel base than competitors which has handling advantages - though also is the cause of the rear overhang debates. It's a truck. The Super Select is unparalleled and combined with diff centre locking makes this ( I believe) a unique vehicle . Anyway just saying I enjoyed your review and am still working out if I'm leaving this thing stock or not.

The steering takes a while to get used to as it’s quite rugged, bumpy through the steering, the new model addresses this with an electronic rack over hydraulic, you’ll just adapt though. I feel that the paddles in the MR are the best thing for it as you can elect what gear it needs to be in, once you learn where the sweet spots are rev and gearbox wise, you’ll enjoy it more. They do actually handle very well for what they are and are the lightest in the segment. The mv triton is much better than the Mr, it seems like the dealerships are marking up prices in Australia for the triton. For instance the gls triton should cost 59,000 but yet the dealers are asking for 66,000 which is what the gsr should cost. Top ute model and prices 2024 Gr hilux - 75 310 + taxes 2024 Isuzu d max x terrain -70 500 + taxes 2024 triton gsr - 63,840 + taxes 2024 ford ranger platinum v6 - 80,640 + taxes 2024 ford ranger raptor - 90,440 + taxes The hilux and ranger top spec models are much more expensive than a gsr triton mv , the hilux does not even have full time 4wd like the ranger or the triton The x terrain d max is also more expensive than a gsr triton. Yes you can buy a cheaper d max with less comfort but you can also do the same for the Triton. We feel there will be a few price drops on the MV as currently it’s very close to a v6 ford ranger, dmax and hilux. Here in Australia the ranger is the number one selling car not just ute. We have included a few price points below based of (new and in stock) mid spec models in AUD. Ranger V6 XLT white: $73,990 Hilux SR5 white: $67,656 Dmax LS-U white: $64,500 Triton GLS white: $66,950 We feel the ranger is worth the price with the v6 and significantly more tech, it’s a true next gen with a completely updated chassis and body as well as a complete revision of engine and driveline.

@yan_stewi_travels the ranger is probably more unreliable than a Chinese ute, ford also tanks badly in the US for reliability. Their engines are the worse. To each his own, I think the only advantage the ranger has Is its car like ride from its suspension. Car expert Paul has a v6 ranger, he is a huge advocate for ford claiming the ranger is the best value ute, yet he had to replace the transfer case on his ranger in less than 50k miles. For some the problems are even worse. Everyone wants a v6 in a ute for 3.5 tonne towing but the reality is most people with utes don't tow that amount. I'll also point out that the triton has drum brakes in the back and still manages to stop before a v6 ranger which has disc brakes from 100km - 0. This really shouldn't be considering how much disc brakes are hyped in utes.

Interesting that’s the triton stops quicker than the ranger, where did you see this? Could be down to the weights of each as Ranger is heavier, I’d rely on disks when towing as they can be vented efficiently and won’t over heat as quick as drums. Appreciate the sub, We used Flux3D for the BMS and the rear parking sensors. $1300 is pretty steep, you only need to drill out holes to fit the sensors and the blind spot adaptors fit directly to your chassis and are adjustable to suit the length of your tray set up.

@@yan_stewi_travels awesome, thank you! $409 for the BSM brackets is a lot more reasonable! Are there any warranty or insurance concerns when doing that kind of relocation work yourself?

@@johnsambar2658 the reason we kept the BMS system was to retain the safety feature, so based on an insured event that particular safety feature still exists and is effective, fitment was conducted as per the specs and bolts were all torqued to spec as they fit where the tow bar is. I can’t see a reason how or why insurance would deny a claim, I have informed them of the aftermarket aluminium canopy and surrounding mods, I would strongly suggest contacting them and disclosing your mods. Directly from Mitsubishi for warranty, if there is a modification done to the car, Mitsubishi must prove that the modification or relocation has created a fault if there is one. We haven’t had an issue with the BMS, rear park sensors are great but they sometimes pick up our tyre and jerry holder on the rear due to their location.

The intake hoses usually go. Only cold side after the intercooler. Best fixed with very tough Western Filters 4 ply rubber hoses (second best is silicon). Cheers

The head units pre Covid were very good. During Covid they used cheaper and nasty chips and it made the head units troublesome. Cheers
