I love your rating system!

I did not like her first novel, Good in Bed, for many reasons.

Wow such a good discussion. I just read the book and liked it but like you I wouldn’t read it again. I loved the first 2/3 but I didn’t like the latter half as much because, in my opinion, the tension and pacing slowed down a lot but I was happy with the ending. (Spoiler) Honestly, Annie and Delta being on the run was the highlight of the book for me kind of like if Thelma and Louise were robots. I want more of that story.

What pained me most about this book was the first person narration. It didn’t make sense for Elliot to narrate events that he hadn’t witnessed, as he was no omniscient being. I think the novel could have benefitted from a third person narration or multiple POVs to show all angles of the characters (as you said, they are extremely two-dimensional!). I like plot twists and all, but I felt like Michaelides employed them excessively (after repeating the same events for the thousandth time). It was such a drag! I almost wish the author would have made use of the caricature Poirot he made up in one of the chapters (Inspector Mavropolous). Through a Hastings-like narration of the Inspector’s action, we would have received a more romantic view of the island as well as the suspense of the crime

I enjoyed your review. I agree that keeping track of the characters was confusing. I think the book was too long and blame it on editing. I liked the ending.

I love your review! It's my favorite book so far in 2024. My favorite scene is probably the ending where they are dating at the cafe. I was listening to the song ''Begin Again'' by Taylor Swift when I read the scene and I think it fit pretty well.

*spoiler aheads* I didn't see the plot twist coming to be honest and Serle got me on the edge of my seat on who she will end up with. Even after the *plot twist* happen, I was still guessing. SPOILER NOW: Although, I feel like they made Jake too likeable, there is no reason why Daohne wouldn't pick Jake. He's all in.

Ooh several books I have read as well. I liked The Light We Carry. I had a similar story with Find Your People and was disappointed when I got it from the library and actually started reading it. Not what I was expecting! Poverty by America is on my TBR. I'm reading my first Stacy Willingham right now! I got Only if You're Lucky from the library and I'm enjoying it so far.

This was also my March book and so far I’m enjoying it . Never read any sci-fi so this is definitely new for me and I’m lovvving it

I just listened to this on Audible today. I enjoyed the slow build up and character development but the final third was WAY too convoluted, messy, and just all over the place. A good thriller keeps things simple and tidy in plot. This did not. Thanks for your review!

I did not like this book at all. I felt no connection to Abby. It was a bit far-fetched as well. Sebastian and her Mom just happened to be on the same trip? she just happened to run into Mark? I would definitely not read this again. Zero character development as well
