This is a great video. I own a CE24 Semi Hollow. I struggle a bit with the tones from the 85/15 pickups. I’m curious what height you have yours set at? Mostly my issue is with the middle and neck positions. They seem a bit dark and muddy. Also my bridge has started to tarnish a bit so I may go for the MannMade upgrades otherwise I absolutely love the guitar. It’s my best playing guitar.
Do not buy from Reverb !!! They're fraud artists !!! They frauded me after a six month wait for a strat i purchased . They outright lie to your face .
The problem of making an offer, you are risking someone one else making a better offer or just buying during that 24 hour waiting period
I have a 2019 CE-24 ...cost me $1999.00 new, in 2019 ... I am a bit surprised at how much they have gone up in price ....
You sound like ya got cotton mouth!
Drink some water!
I bought a 2005 ce24...it still has the same curve and hardware as the custom 24 which they changed later on.
Great review. I am debating between an S2 and the CE, but leaning CE more and more. I need to get both in my hands back to back to compare. Tough to debate the tone and looks of these models.
Is a worldwide for shipping cost??
I have a core CE24 and picked up an SE CE24. I wanted to compare and wow. I am very impressed that my SE keeps up with my core
It sounds like Custom 24 is not worth extra $2000 and CE24 is the way to go. What do you guys think?
agreed on the bridge upgrade. actually only saddles
PRS is the brand that got me to sell my Les Paul! 😂One thing though, how comfy is that sharp edge around the body?
I bought a used CE24 for some variety from my Gibsons. The Custom 24 is about $7,000 in my country. You need to change the bridge and I put a Super Vee Bladerunner into mine. I hated the 85/15 pickups on my CE24 as it sounds like a Strat through my Tone King amp. However, it sounded good through my Fender Princeton. My CE24 is a Swamp Ash Special, so it might be brought gatee than the heavier mahogany and maple models. The 85/15 pickups sound too hifi and bland to me. The CE24 is a great guitar and for $500, I turned it into an exceptional guitar.
I have a '17 CE-24. Love it. It's the go-to for sure. Good video.
I have 2 CE 24. One is a semi hollow and the other is a solid body. These are my favorite guitars. They have something all their own. I think every player should try them.
I also have 2 CE24s, one solid and on semi-hollow. Love them both.
I had a 2002 ce24 that had the same specs, hardware, carve, quarter sawn neck, etc, as the core models. Old CE’s were really well made.
I don't know......looks Blue Jays blue to me😜 Nice guitars, I just got the same one in the eriza verde green. Pairs up with my Helix quite nicely.
Ahha-- I thought so-- a true Dodgers fan! :D Me too. That's sure a nice guitar. Actually, those are three nice guitars! Love these kind of videos, where it's just a regular guy talking about guitars; no pretense, just sharing the love for these wonderful instruments. Maybe I'll start a channel and pay it forward ;) Thanks for another enjoyable video~
Is that a Vin Scully bobblehead piloting the Fender amp behind you? :D I was raised on Vin's radio broadcasts, and to this day prefer to listen to ball games rather than watching them; Thanks Vin-- LOL! Great video covering the CE24. Just yesterday my very own (2022 model) arrived. I'm surprised by how much the body resonates, and how clear the pickups sound. Currently I'm playing through my old bass amp, so I'm on the hunt for an affordable, proper guitar amp (I'm returning to guitar after a 10-year absence). Time to go check out some of your other videos ;)
I just traded for a CE 24, to me and maybe it's because it's a 2020 model with the TCI version, the 85/15s sound quite different and much better than the ones in my Core C24 Piezo. Loving the neck as well in the CE, fantastic guitar, thanks for the video!
I thought I was the only person who doesn't like binding on a guitar, what good does the plastic do?
I bought mine used in the late 90's and it's been my main guitar ever since.
I dig the video! Can you tell me where you acquired the poster in the background? Thanks in advance!
Amazon.
After being a Gibson and Fender guy for 25 years I decided to see what all the fuss was about with Paul Reed Smith. I was planning on getting a S2 custom 24 over the CE 24 but I happened to stumble across a new old stock 2019 CE 24 at my local shop. It was the gorgeous faded blue smoke burst and the nicest playing guitar I had ever had in my hands. The 85/15 pickups are so sweet, I had to have it! I still love my Fenders but I'm not sure I'll be keeping my Gibson's any longer.
just got my first PRS , a Bernie Marsden Sig, and im considering selling all my guitars and going FULL PRS now. Thanks for the info.
I have the semi-hollow body in Black..
I just bought another semi-hollow in McCarty Burst. I sold my cherry semi-hollow a couple of months ago and regret it.
I prefer semi hollow body
Good video...
Glad you liked it!
I like to clip the bight cap on the volume pot and take out the 2 extra bar magnets in the bridge pickup. The bridge comes with 3 alnico 2 magnets which make the tone extremely crips and clean for the high fi sound. Without them I feel like it matches the neck pickup more and feels more expressive.
What I think is that none of what you talked about is affordable to club musicians. . I would love to be able to buy a high end PRS with the upgrades but sadly it is never going to happen.
Selling on Reverb is for old hipster boomer douchebags with too much disposable income. And a great place for greedy coorperations who already have online sales outside of reverb. For actual musicians who are looking to sell their used gear it's become a losing battle. You're better off going to the pawn store and taking 25% of the used value and that's just sad. Nobody should ever have to settle for that. Now people are having to price their used gear for the same price that a buyer could purchase new, just to get maybe 75% of the used value if they're lucky. It's not even worth it anymore and that's why the majority of people are now selling on facebook marketplace.
Wow.
If you don't like it don't use it. If you're worried about selling then don't buy.
My important mod is 24-08 switching. I know have a CE24-08 and I love it! A versatile guitar made even more so! 😁
How did you do this mod? Did you just take it to someone? I have a Custom 24-08 and I love the 08 switches! I need the get them on my CE 24
@@rodrigobmusic15 mine was done by PRS. It had a finish problem so I sent it in on warranty and asked for the mod while it was there 🙂
@shawnmcginnis2508 oh, man that's awesome that they did that for you!
They are cookie cutter fast produced garbage. Take good hard look at high end PRS guitars, they never hold their overly inflated values.
I'm guessing you've never owned a PRS.
I really want a DW CE 24 Floyd, but that's a completely different beast. There's one difference you didn't mention...some might think it's significant (I don't care). Core models have a one piece neck, whereas CE models use scarf joints for the headstock and neck to body joint. One important similarity that very few seem to talk about is that with the CE's long neck tenons (as compared to a Strat style bolt on), the neck joint on both the CE and Core models are virtually identical. Subscribed! Keep up the great content!
CE 24 models are fantastic. I have owned 3, one standard issue 2021 with 85/15 and two limited runs with 57/08 pickups, ebony boards and burst style finishes (one blue one cherry charcoal) i own a lot of other high end guitars from Gibson, Fender and other PRS models. The CE 24 is the perfect sweet spot IMHO. Not too pricey, quality US pickups, nitro finish and attention to detail is spot on. I tend to play my CE models more than others 2 to 3 times thier cost. They are just so easy to play, so comfortable and balanced. The satin necks feel great. The used market is full of them and can be had for a steal. I have thought about the bridge upgrade but have no tuning issues and like the tones I get, so I've left it. I'd love to hear a tonal comparison back to back of the bridges though
I agree with you 100%. Thanks for your comments.
Don't part with anything if you don't have to.
My next guitar. Thank you.
I just bought one a few days ago.Wonderful guitar..
Good choice. Enjoy!
I'm on 4 PRSs now and slowly selling all non PRS with a few LPs being a exception. got a custom 22 it's ok I guess, a regular Ce24, semi hallow Ce24 and DW Ce24 Floyd. i highly suggest you try the newer DW Ce24 , they're marketed as metal but the cleans are like nothing i have ever ever heard
I have the Ruby Red. Great guitar. Might wanna upgrade it with brass bridge.
That is definitely a good upgrade. I did it to both my CE24s.
Additional facts: There were 2 runs of CE 24,s They were out of production for a few years. The Original run had quarter sawn straight grain maple necks. They had the same high end Mann made bridge as the custom 24...machined, and plated brass saddles. they had HFS bridge and PRS neck pickups (name escapes me), The new run has a scarf joint neck and SE hardware, they are 2 different animals IMHO. First run also came with a full blown PRS hardshell case....newer run has a bag. The first run was considered a core guitar by PRS. You can tell the difference quickly by feeling for a carve/bevel/route around the knobs in the maple cap. they omitted that carve on the newer run. If you like the CE 24, give the older CE 22's a look......monster rock guitars with Dragon 1 pickups only in that model and high end custom shop PRS guitars. Just sayin....
Hello What do you think of PRS guitars made in Indonesia and Korea.Price wise they are much cheaper and they play very well .Is it worth buying and paying more for a product from the USA or is it rather unprofitable considering that PRS guitars are made with great care in all factories.
PRS guitars which are made offshore are excellent guitars. I think they are the best quality import guitars you can buy. There's a lot of value for a reasonable amount of money. I've owned a few SEs and they were all great guitars. PRS, on their TH-cam channel, recently put out an updated video tour of their factory in Indonesia and I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already. The American-made models are of higher quality, in parts, materials, and workmanship. Whether you buy an import or American-made depends on what you want. You can't go wrong either way.
Thank you for your reply.I think so too.Paul makes the best guitars in the galaxy and the ones made under PRS License and in Indonesia and Korea are very good.I have a dozen guitars but PRS is the best I just bought another one on ebay.
Which model did you get? I've been curious about the SE 24-08. I've got too many guitars right now, but that one is on my list to try out.
@@tweedguitarsociety I have one Korean se 245.I recently bought a beautiful Pauls model and am waiting for delivery .I am going to buy a PRS 24 .PRS guitars are so beautiful I will make a collection of them.I am waiting for new little used ones on ebay.
Only my opinion and taste, but I wish prs would get rid of those birds as fret markers, and change the look of that headstock. I can't stand the look of that tapered headstock with those pointy tips. Not sure what they could do with a design change (or addition), but I'd buy one if I could tolerate looking at one sitting on my guitar stand. I love the body shape, and the way they play, but can't force myself to pay money for birds on my fretboard.
Interesting.
I can see how a person could dislike the inlays but the headstock!? It's my favorite headstock design out there for both looks and functionality! Some of my least favorites are bc rich, heritage and teles/esquires. I'm not crazy about tribute/studio/standard LP headstocks either. They're overly big, too plain and the break angle making them so fragile and difficult to keep in tune is a real issue too. But the prs headstock is perfect in my opinion. It's a subjective thing I suppose though.
You can get older CE's with the moons instead of birds. Can't help you with the headstock (which is badass IMO)
Personally, I love both the headstock and birds. But if you don’t, CE24 has a bolt-on neck! You can buy an aftermarket one, made to your preferences.
Originally MojoTone use 500K pots.
For single coil pickups, 250k is typical.
True
Mojotone recommends 500k for the bell-like pronounced tones
Nice overview. I've got two SE, three S2s, and a McCarty. Gibson should hire PRS to teach them QC consistency. Did you have to do any adjustment to the screws when you swapped bridges?
Yes! The instructions that came with the bridges had them sitting pretty high. PRS specifies the bridge should sit about 1/16" off the body. I had to do some back and forth adjusting between the bridge and the claw, while making sure the bridge screws were perfectly level with each other. Also, the bridge screws can't be adjusted when there's tension on the strings. So it's a bit of a balancing act. I think it's probably best to take some measurements from your old bridge before you remove it.
@@tweedguitarsociety Yeah, that looks like stress getting them all exactly the same. Seems like if one is even a little off, it's hosed.
I Bought a new one from a retailer that has a custom shop and had a bone nut put on they did it wrong and it wasnt bone it was composite $160. and had a pleck done another $160.00 Full beck adjust and set up with ORIANTHI Strings And I bought a Hard Case to go with it When I got it I let it sit in shipping box For 24 hrs and when I ipend it up it wasnt in the case it came a day later ugh and and so after tuning it up many times and you go to play it it would go sharp no matter what you did si I did research and found that the nut they replace with the Fake bone was to high and the neck Needed adjust ment wich they should of done befor the pleck And ax after then string it up and check the neck so Long STORY SHORT I SENT IT BACK HAD TO RAISE HELL YO GET MY MONEY BACKBUT NOT THE OVER $300 FOR THE CRAPPY SHOP WORK DO I SENT MY POS - PRS " BACK" MADE IN INDONESIA THERE JUNK ..
Well, I completely disagree with "they're junk." You shouldn't have had to replace the nut or have the guitar pleked. PRS guitars are completely set up before leaving the factory. The SE models are sent to the Maryland factory before going to retailers. At the Maryland factory the guitars go through a complete QA inspection and then are set up. In fact, PRS just put out a new video about the Indonesian factory. I've owned several PRS guitars, including SE's. Right now I have two CE24s and a Silver Sky. These I will keep forever.
@@tweedguitarsociety no there not from INDONESIA
The SE models are made in Mojokerto Region, East Java, in Indonesia.
I second the notion of replacing the bridge. While replacing the bridge is not a “difficult” thing to do, it is extremely important that all 6 pivot screws are dead level with each other. You will have serious stability issues, and will likely chew up the knife edge on the bridge if this isn’t done correctly. Just something people should know before carelessly removing and installing an upgraded bridge on any PRS trem guitar, SE models included.
When I receive payment from a client in Reverb via PayPal Sometimes the PayPal account is suspended for 180 days Do you have any idea why?
I can help u for that
Haven't heard of that issue. I stopped using PayPal a while ago. Maybe you should do the same.
Good luck with the Channel
