This is an -800? I thought all this time it was a -700! I mean, they used almost full power. Also, do you know why the captain rotated past V2?

Also the V2 honestly looked a bit low to be an -800. Also takeoff roll was quite short with high power. Maybe the aircraft was light.

@@SSAviation737 yes. Anytime there is windshear expected on takeoff you wait to rotate until close to V2 + 20 kts. We call this “VRw” speed. Its sometimes referred to as a precautionary takeoff profile. PWB calculates it if the crew requests windshear numbers specifically at the gate before pushback.

@@boeingdriver7375 I was told this is a -700 because this aircraft has the galley power switch and not the IFE/CAB UTIL switches. Also, I'm sure they took off with full 24K power since the engines went to around 95% N1.

Not aggressive, the flight probably got delayed and the Captain was annoyed.

Its the speed brake deploying, the md 80 had a very noticeably loud mechanic for the speed brake lever! But you can hear a similar noise with the 737 when it touches down.

@@Jesus-ey7cu They use their eyes, combined with their experience in setting the power needed to maintain the desired approach speed and make minor adjustments to pitch to maintain glidepath, within a proper descent rate. It's harder to describe than to do. You just keep the touchdown zone in a fixed position on the windscreen, maintain the correct speed, adjust for wind descent rate fluctuations, and the rest works itself out.

Fly the plane manually by watching the runway. I do all my approaches like that, watching George fly an ILS is boring.

No, he kept his hands on the thrust levers until V1 WET, then both hands go on the control wheel as per SOP.

@@greatflyer_aviation Watch the video from the beginning. He set thrust and put both hands on control column. Which SOP is this? In case of a low speed engine failure he would go off runway immediately!

​@@kaesarromanova1876 What the captain did was press TO/GA, then command to the FO to "set takeoff thrust," which the FO did. Once the FO said "set," the captain put his hand back on the throttles. Yes, it was a little late.

He’s visual. He’s on 17L which is an up slopping runway here in DFW so if you come on the GS you will be high on the papi’s and a true approach should be 1 white 3 red on 17L if you want to hit the touchdown zone. Nothing unsafe or unusual with that approach. Stop arm chair quarterbacking in the youtube comments.

@@SidestickPilot PAPI align with the glide slope where there is one. Otherwise glide paths my have different angles because of terrain or for high temperature operations for non-precision approaches. Landing on the touchdown markers is basic airmanship. You are using excuses to explain this poor flying.

@@EdOeuna I’m based in DFW and routinely land 17L. Not making excuses I’m telling you how it is.

@@EdOeuna Check the ILS chart for the ILS/LOC 17L. It states in notes the VGSI (PAPI’s) does not coincide with the ILS glide path. Also shows that the runways slopes upwards with a 50 foot elevation change between the beginning and end of RWY 17L.

He's "guarding" the throttles in case of inadvertent thrust reduction by the autothrottle.

@@adamant365 I didn't know that, but makes sense. The position of his hand lets him push the throttles forward but not pull them back.

@@adamant365 btw does the md80 have an autothrottle that moves the levers automatically like the Boeing 737?

@@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor It moves them only up to 60kts during takeoff, when CLMP appears and it won't move them anymore unless there is a malfunction, or the DFGS kicks into another mode.
