Laying Comments
For best results and to reduce possible salt staining from the base mortar on the face, we recommend that a Primer Slurry should be applied to the underside of the paving at the time of laying to improve the bond of the stone to the base mortar, which will increase the longevity of your patio.
Use a traditional sand cement pointing mortar to joint or Pavestone Pointfix Jointing Compound for a faster finish.
Tudor Antiqued Paving should be laid with the chamfered edge face down.
Before committing to purchase any natural stone product it is always recommended that you visit your stockist to check the colour and texture of your chosen paving.
Each of the colour swatches reproduced in this brochure demonstrate the overall hue of a paved area. The natural colour variation of individual paving flags will vary when viewed individually.

Pavestone Travertine Porcelain Patio Paving
What is the name of the tiles installed in this video
You went to all that trouble and didnt use any geo textile under your crush before compacting!!!probably one of the most important stages in the job and you didnt do it!!😅
What is the obsession with porcelain outside....
Porcelain is the fastest growing patio paving medium over the last 5 years and is growing share over traditional concrete and natural stone paving materials. One of the main reasons is the fact that it is impervious and not absorbing dirty rainwater, algae and detritus means the paving stays looking as new, as the day it was laid.
Hi, I'm in the north east - please can you recommend a good business who can do my patio? It's so worrying trying to find people who aren't cowboys when you are paying out such a lot of money
Hi Maria. Just go to our website and key in your postcode to find a selection of landscapers close to you. Link here: www.pavestone.co.uk/highlighted-landscapers/
thanks very much for uploading
If I’m cutting plank porcelain tile do I need to do this many passes or can I just cut through it in two passes? I’m not a professional and it’s a small 10ft bedroom so I won’t need to make many cuts.
Uh oh my American brain is having to calculate from meters 🤯
😂😂
This is a great clear how to video. Just question. I've seen a lot of people say you need a membrane between the ground and MOT. Is this true?
Finally a straight forward video on how to cut porcelain with an angle grinder. What Blade do you recommend for a small project?
Is it the same for an Indian stone slab?
Yes it is mate but you use a diamond blade for Indian stone
Ive seen other videos with 50mm subbase
Very well explained thank you so much. This will be a great help.
What about membrane
My daughter had a porcelain patio fitted last week. It's awful. I don't think they used spacers because all the gaps are different. Some tiles have been cut too short and the gaps filled with cement. Can this mess be rectified? It was not cheap!
Beautiful work! How do we deal with draining system?
This is exactly what I want & need for my flats, thanks
Thanks for this. Very helpful. i understand there has to be a slope for drainage. Hence the slope between the pegs. But why then does the string between the pegs have to be horizontal? Surely that has to have a slope aswell?
I'm wondering this too!
Oh figured it out. The fall only goes one way, so the string line going in the other corner at the right angle is the level side :)
Just to confirm 100mm substrate or ballast followed by 40mm sand then the width of the slab… Is the width of the slab standard & how mm is it?
This was my interpretation. Thickness of the slab will depend on your choice, so probably best to select what slabs you'll be finishing with, then consider that thickness in the final calculation before you lay the base.
Bollocks stihl saw to much vibration chips it every time. Need little electric grinder with good quality thin disc score it first then get some 1 to lightly stray it as you cut it
Sorry using a stihl saw will not give you a nice straight clean cut. To much vibration wet cutter or 4-5" grinder with a proper thin cutting disc and get someone to lightly spray it with water and then sanding disc to buff the edge
Yes you can use water we use a little spray water bottle and get some 1 to gentle spray as I cut
Check out the porcelain blade,,,,thin diamond blade with holes to allow it to cool
Slippery as hell when wet
How long did this whole job take?
You did a fab job right up to the point you used point fix....could you have not pointed properly
Did you not notice this was just one big advert for pavestone .
@greensidemags lol no I need to pay more attention
Do you need a geo grid if building a patio on an already made and set raised level? We are adding a patio to an area that has a geo grid shed base already installed
Os this better thank.sika sand done my garden 2 years ago and it's all coming out so need to.clear all joints and re point
Great if you have half hour per cut spare and happy with an aching back. Best wasy is to score the line with a 115mm grinder, then just simply push it through my £1800 water cutter 😅😅😅
Get video! Wish all diy videos be this good! Thanks
Brilliant video 👍👍👍
Dose the damp proof course applies for the Caribbean
Would not fly in a Canadian climate
Of all the dozens of videos I’ve watched to get a bank of knowledge on how to do this, this has to be the most explained, most informative and easy to follow video. Well done chaps.
Thank you! :-)
What spirit level is this please. I have been searching for ages but can’t find one with those fall off lines on
Good clear demo
If the slab was 40mm thick would it be a good idea with a 4 “ grinder and the appropriate blade cut both sides evenly ? I have a rare slab broke one and need to cut a 20mm sliver off slab is 2 ft x 2 ft…
👍👍👍👍
Brilliant video, Thank you for making this so easy to understand. Im feeling much more confident about doing this myself now.
Does anybody use Terram on sub-base ?
You have serious accent that confuses 'uff' and 'ut' sounds with 'off' and 'ot' sound. It kind of annoys me. Good video.
My garden is very similar to the one in the video and I would like to have the same type of paving. Is planning permission required for this? Thank you
Best instructional video on this topic I have seen- thanks
Great video. How do you calculate the required amount of cement and sharp sand required for the desired area? Thanks
Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone knew the rough cost of the work done on this video? My patio is about 30 square metres. Thanks
For a small 4x5m base I apparently need 12 x 1 ton bags of MOT Type 1. Inc delivery, that would be around £1000 quid. I’d need to shovel and wheelbarrow it around the back too (ugh!). Then I’d need to buy around 20 bags of pebble gravel, which would set me back around £2000 quid. Turns out it’s cheaper to just slabs on top of soil, or buy decking. All I wanted was a little gravel patio next to my old cedar shed. Building materials prices are absurd.
A rule of thumb theres 1.6 tonnes of mot per cubic meter of area do the maths
2x bulk bags is more like 1.5 tonnes
Don't think you've calculated that correctly
@@Steve-ArfArf funny 30 yrs ive been buying mot bulk bags hold about .75 of a tonne if your lucky google cube per tonne mot and do your own maths
@@jharris7407 I was talking to OP
Should not ruffle up the bed, the tile needs a smooth flat bed for full contact
You shouldn't rough up the bed on porcelain. They need a full flat bed of mortar. Water will get under it, freeze in winter and then expand which will lift the slab. Get the mortar down and smooth it out with a good layer of slurry on the slab otherwise most of the slurry you put on is pointless.
Excellent video.
What do you do if you’re laying slabs on concrete?
Watch a different video
If the concrete is good condition, then can lay slabs/tiles with mapei outdoor tile glue - works with indian paving too, but not with the big concrete slabs(council slabs).
Loved the tutorial, but the final design, in my opinion is bad. Fake grass, not for me. Too much paving on the side for my liking.
