Having one with low G and one with high G makes it harder to compare the tone differences between the two.

that is a rare model with the hole in the back It was made from nyssa wood or black gum. The later ones used monkey pod. very cool. I have the same uke.

I was pretty worried about it when we first got into the heating season and I checked the (lack of!) humidity in my apartment. I thought I was going to have to make more of a thing out of it, but in actuality the drop-in humidifiers like the ones you showed have been keeping them where they need to be. I’ve been getting a week per cycle between remoistening the sponges, so it’s just become kind of a Sunday routine. In your case I understand you need a room humidifier, but I only have five instruments to deal with. Something to think about before considering another purchase!!

So cool! I just received a vintage one from a friend, but the tuning keeps slipping hard when I try and tune it up. Any suggestions to get the pegs to stick better?

I have the Kala Contour acacia tenor and I believe I've discovered a serious design flaw in the headstock. The deeper channel close to the nut is for the C string to use the first tuner...meaning the G goes to the farther tuner. As is...the G string contacts the wood when strung to the nearer...first...tuner. So the standard is to move clockwise from low to high with the first tuner being the nearer one. The headstock of the Contour was designed to go counter clockwise with the first tuner being the further one. Check it out.

What's the finish on the fingerboard like? Satin or gloss? Hoping for a satin feel that permits easy movement up and down.

I think the Makaio sounds much better. But I think the comparison should be made with same strings, thats just my opinion. I also need to add that Martin is a solid Koa uke so you would think they will sound better with age you would think. I didn't know Makaio is laminated wood.

I have 8 string Uke that came with these. In less than a year they all broke. They are poorly designed. Don’t work. Sorry.
