From Prison to Purpose: Mac's Journey of Resilience and Redemption
In this powerful episode of EPEC Conversations, we sit down with McArthur “Mac” Hoang, Reentry Manager at the Asian Prisoner Support Committee and pivotal community leader. Mac shares his incredible journey from a foster youth with a learning disability to overcoming incarceration and achieving sobriety for over 12 years. He talks about growing up as the youngest of 10 in a Vietnamese refugee family, the challenges of navigating a life shaped by adversity, and how he found purpose after the tragic murder of his child’s mother.
Mac's story is one of resilience, as he graduated from UC Berkeley with honors, became a key voice for incarcerated Asian Americans, and has helped raise millions to support vulnerable populations. Today, he serves on the board of the New Breath Foundation, continuing to advocate for healing, justice, and empowerment within AANHPI communities. Aneesa is a lovely, talented jazz musician with a melodious voice. It may be worthwhile to be on AGT just so she could be more widely known. She deserves greater renown. I was so excited after I saw her reel of her singing "Sunny". What I learned from my musician friends, all they cared about was talent. Did someone have chops? Aneesa has it.
