You earned my subscription with this build. I'm not joking when I say this is the best home camper build that I've ever seen. I've seen a lot, by the way. Great job! Are you a pro cabinet maker by trade?
Thanks! No im a geologist actually. Done a few home renovations but not much else. Definitely not known for my finesse
Do you mind if I ask, What sort of costs was this build? Aside from your time spent, of course. Good job!
I plan to do a budget episode, have been promising it for a while. Need to sit down and add it all up. My guess is half what the equivalent Australian made ones are. Maybe $50k. Could’ve done it for nearer 30 if i skimped on components.
Open bow is a terrible design for fishing. As soon as swells start hitting you, you will feel every wave that comes unto you. Also this boat has 1-2 chambers? which means, any shark attack, or reef puncturing your main chamber, your boat will go under. For any inflatable boat, especially ocean worthy, you need at least 3-4 chambers to begin with.
It has 4 chambers. Plenty of folks taking these offshore. Not sure I’d enjoy a friendly shark.
What did you use to build the walls from?
It’s a fibreglass composite panel, 28mm thick with an XPS foam core
@@PerpetualTransient Is that similar to Azdel?
Hmm haven’t heard of that. Go look at transformRV or styromax website in Australia for details
You look like a pretty decent welder to me. Very impressive. That caravan is built much better than most of what is out there to buy. Well done.
Thanks 🙏
Toomuch ad, don't know may be that's your income. Do you do anything else for survival? Sometimes I wonder those people move around bush, what is their income? How do they buy car, food etc.
Unfortunately TH-cam puts the ads. I get very little income from TH-cam. I work 9-5 also.
So, you do this adventure over the weekend or vacation. @@PerpetualTransient
@merrifieldgalos6248 both, but haven’t been for too long
@@PerpetualTransient keep doing the bush trip. So we can watch the bush life sitting in our comfort zone. I believe it is hard. Thanks for your nice videos.
Could you please make few videos without any music, just nature sounds please.
Very nice 👍
Thanks
What a great accomplishment, looks awesome! Where did you get the plans? Ive been wanting to build one myself but it be so much easier if i had plans.
I just made them up. Drew it all on SketchUp. Spent maybe 3 months getting it right before starting.
Brought the 300 watt solar blanket. It only puts out 145w. I Will never buy anything from a one store wonder. It’s too hard, to get the solar panel fixed. Will now have to buy an additional solar panel, to replace this useless itec one, will go to BCF. Itec, technical support, is pathetic, no customer care, skills.
I’ve heard a few say they had panels with low outputs but itech seemed to be pretty good at swapping them over i thought. Mine is still going strong after a few rough and dusty trips.
Thanks for your video. Inspired us to camp there for 4 days. Beautiful spot, loved it.
Really is magical
what kind of panneling you used for interial and exterial walls? Looks very light weight.
Exterior is called fibreglass composite panel and the internal is called purelite which is a pvc material. Both light but very strong. Most Aussie vans now made out of these or similar.
Do you know how much that build cost? Asking for a friend🙄😅 btw awesome job!!
I’m planning to do a full budget breakdown episode if i ever get around to it, so stay tuned!
Gasless Mig?
Yeh my little unit for tacking it all together was gasless. Main welding was done with stick.
G'day Mate, found your channel by pure luck and love the idea, build and most of all the time you put in recording the videos. I am going to build one myself, was looking at a squaredrop, but with the ideas I wanted to fit on my project the smaller trailer wasn't going to cut it. Saw your first video a few days ago and decided a van your size roughly would be right for me. I subscrided, gave you the 👍🏻, now I'm going through the rest of your videos to put pen to paper. It inspiring your work shall keep watching the rest of the videos and the channel for updates and more projects. Again well done. 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Tony. Hit me up with any questions and good luck 🤞
Hey mate, Just a quick tip when folding down the TrueKit. It's actually easier to fold the boat as you deflate it - instead of waiting 10 minutes as you said. What I mean by that is, once you release the pressure start to fold over the pontoon and get it into that position you eventually got it in where the black rubber scuff strip is facing upwards. By doing it this way with air still in the chambers it's a lot easier to manipulate the fold. It's very hard to demonstrate without actually showing you as there are many other small tips and tricks - but that's the main thing you are doing that's making your life harder when folding it down. I'll suggest a "Folding your TrueKit - Tips and Tricks" video to the team at Truekit, I'm sure it'll help a lot of people out!
Ahh that’s a good tip, thanks.
From what I've seen the 300 watt doesn't give out anywhere what some people say.
I’m happy with mine, stayed consistent on a few big trips dragging it through the red centre
Great job friend!
Thank you!🙏
Loving this series. You’re doing an awesome job.
Thanks John
You have a particular set skills a well thought out job
Thanks! Small part skill, big part luck.
Glad I found this vid. Looking forward to watching the build. Awesome job. 1363kg is my guess
Thanks. She landed on 1500 exactly in the end
What an awesome effort… it would be great if you could purchase a plans of builds like this that someone like yourself has gone through the effort of videoing the build..
Thanks. I get asked most weeks for them but they’re not engineered as i just did it all myself so can’t really sell or share widely. Don’t want to be liable for a heap of death traps driving around lol
It turned out to be a great job. I wonder if you had experience building a caravan like this before? Also, have you made a design on the computer before?
Thanks. I once built a camper trailer from an old army trailer, but nothing like this no. I hadn’t ever used SketchUp either, but i found it really intuitive and there’s plenty of TH-cam tutorials out there. The web version is also free to use. Honestly i think it was a major part of the success being able to design to mm accuracy before starting the build.
What are the specs on the air bags , thanx
The suspensions is rated to 2800kg, so 1400 per side. They are airbag man bags.
@@PerpetualTransient thanx looking at upgrading from coils to airbags to help level on site and to lower to get into garage, would you know the part numbers Thanx again
@MrDiggs30 they come as part of the tuffride suspension kit. Checkout their website, they are in melb. Glendon will help you out, tell him i sent you! tekoaus.com.au
Hi can you charge lithium batteries too from that solar controller unit and blanket
Hi mate - the blanket and its supplied controller do lithium as standard and also do AGM, GEL, WET and lead acid batteries. Note i didn’t use the supplied controller in the review though. I’m thinking of doing a follow up video of how it’s now going a year later after some big trips. Stay tuned.
Nice build ❤❤❤ Love it
Thanks!
Awesome build and awesome video
Thanks mate
What speed is the truekit making with the 20hp? Looks good
With two people and a bit of gear on relatively flat conditions I’ve hit 44kms/hr
Gday, just came across your channel. Can you tell me where you got the mesh grill and stand that you use over the camp fire, please? Thanks, Bill
Gday bill - it’s the camp braai model from www.ozbraai.com.au
Just started watching, so maybe my criticism is premature, but in my opinion, it’s better to describe what materials you are using and installing as you work, rather than just playing music. What was the floor material?
There’s 20 episodes, almost 10 hours of details through every step of the process, including materials. I’ve found many don’t want the detail just the visual so i created this short vid for those more than others really.
@@PerpetualTransient Thanks for the clarification, I’ll look for the detailed version
What was the cost of the build? You kinda missed the question probably on everyones mind...
Never quite got around to making the budget episode. I will one day.
Fantastic work, you have to be impressed by your achievement. All top grade equipment and workmanship, apart from the welding maybe, lol.
Thanks mate. Surprisingly my splitter spatter has held up on some rough stuff. Keep checking the bumper bar isn’t falling off when i pull up lol
For me testing it on the ocean is a real test on a lake not much of a test tho
That catch and cook must have felt glorious haha - nice one!
A long time coming for a decent fish!
what is the battery montor you using?
Victron cerbo
Looks amazing! Was wondering what you used as the base floor material? Like the part that's exposed to the underside of the chassis?
Thanks. It’s called thermolite which is a cross-linked polymer foam and fiberglass composite. It’s waterproof, light and very strong. But expensive and so goddam itchy when cutting!
what type of panel do you use , can you give me the characteristic ?
Hi mate - it’s a 28mm fibreglass composite panel with an XPS foam core. I cover that stuff in detail in the build series also on the channel.
tank you, it's great@@PerpetualTransient
Well done mate. That looks bloody fantastic! Wanna build another ? Haha
One nearly killed me mate!
Very well Done....👍
Thank you! Cheers!
John Hayes is awesome when it rains and the creek flows with waterholes every 50 metres. Frogs, even leeches in the largest waterhole.
I’d love to see that. Be great to swim on the walk - well maybe without leeches!
Great build 👍 good on ya for giving it a go. I took on a similar build a few years ago. Brings back memories✌️ very rewarding...
Thanks mate
Do a camping vlog and a tour of your caravan
That sounds like a good plan
Loving the videos mate, hope you continue to upload!
Thanks mate. Have taken a bit of time off from it but should fire up again this year.
Hi Craig, I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos, this one especially has encouraged me to move my kitchen into the outside as well. I was wellbeing if you were able to share the dimensions of your kitchen… including the height room the ground to the kitchen bench, and then from the bench to the top? I managed to catch the depth, just not the rest. Thanks again for taking us along on the journey. Cheers Dave
Thanks dave. The bench is about 930mm and the top of the opening is about 1860mm. Both of these change with airbags being inflated or deflated. But those measurements are roughly at ride height. I’m 6ft so with the hatch door sloping upwards when open i have head clearance at the sink. My 6ft3 teenagers struggle a bit!
@@PerpetualTransient thank you so much, this has completed the puzzle. I look forward to watching your videos. Stay safe and have fun
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but why does everyone seem to need mods just to avoid cavitation. It’s as if they didn’t know how long the shafts on the motors would be. But they would know I would think. Wouldn’t they test this for gods sake?
Yeh i think it’s an issue with this style of boat in general. Takacat and others also. I see truekit have now made their transom slightly higher on latest model presumably to alleviate this.
What is the metal tank on front please.
Storage. Typically has my outboard motor in there. It’s aluminium.
Good job i like It from marrocco
Greetings!. Chefchaouen one of my favourite places.
Thanks for that information I ended up buying an Aussie van 100k and my wife kept saying make one. I'm a fitter and can weld but I was unsure about the chassis so I could always sell my hybrid van it's a 15' a bit big for 2 and make one.
I went a bit crazy and over spec’d mine on pretty much everything and was still half that or less. I reckon if I’d done a modest spec it could’ve come down to 30k-40k range
Thanks again very different in cost that’s for sure. I’d go a bit over spec too @@PerpetualTransient
Mate that’s unreal you’ve taken on a task that I keep saying I should’ve done instead of buying. Tell me what was the end cost approx and did you buy the suspension. Also what was the size and weight you ended up with. Geoff
Thanks mate. I’m planning to do a budget episode soon and need to add it all up. It was about half the cost of the Aussie made ones i reckon. There’s 20 episodes there covering all aspects including suspension weight etc. it’s a tuffride suspension, Melbourne company, bloody good. Airbag man airbags. The tare weight came in at 1500 and i set the atm at 2400kg. It’s equivalent to or a bit bigger than a 12ft van i think. The body is 3.6m long and overall it’s 5.4 bumper to hitch i think
