If you have a hard time telling a CRJ from a 717, you need to get your eyes checked.

I’m going to miss the 717 when it’s retired. T-Tails are so iconic and I grew up watching DC-9s take off from Detroit. They are rockets! Enjoy seeing them while you can, still quite a lot of them around.

Ok the concept is great and having the advantages of an airplane and a helicopter is a considerable asset but the reliability of the system remains questionable. There have been too many crashes and deaths without this reliability reaching satisfactory levels to stop accidents in peacetime!! If you lose one of the rotors you lose the plane. If the tilt system malfunctions you lose the plane. 😑

Is that top down picture in the thumbnail real? If it is the perspective off the ground doesn't do it justice. Especially when you have people and other aircraft as comparison! What an awesome picture. Anyway too bad runways are what are holding even larger aircraft back.

Bruh, McDonnell-Douglas WHOLLY designed the aircraft that became the 717, which was originally called the MD-95, also known internally as the DC-9-95. The name changed to 717 when Boeing purchased McDonnell-Douglas in 1997. It’s the final iteration of the DC-9/ MD-80/90 series of aircraft. Also, you can’t feature photos of the 717 and not include its launch customer, AirTran Airways/ ValuJet Airlines (merged in 1997). Bud! Come on now! I have photos of it in AirTran launch livery, registration N717XD Experimental (currently N949AT for Delta).
