Hey there any Bicycle rental tips?
Ask for a guy named Augustin down at Playa Carribe condos in HMB.
what a trip!
A trip indeed!
Hey Jason, what was that yellow drink you had at Morningstar? It looked delicious! Have to know what it's called as I'm heading to Akumal this year and have to try it.
It was a Mezcalita with Passion Fruit I think.
@@GoinPlaces Thanks a lot, leaving for Akumal in 3 weeks. Appreciate it.
@@Genesimmons8 Enjoy! We head back down first part of December. Morningstar is not the same place from what I'm aware. I am not certain but I think the folks that run El Ultimo Maya in the pueblo have been running it since about last April. The people that were running Morninstar were not doing a very good job. Not sure if they made a deal to have someone manage it or if it got sold. Either way.... I think it will be better now.
Great information What do you recommend for staying on Half Moon Bay? We have 2 nights before checking into a resort in Akumal Just two of us!
So sorry for the non response! This page wasn't sending us any notifications! I'm sure you had a great time during your stay.... There are so many options for staying in HMB that you can pretty much just pick one of the many listings for condo rentals and get a good one. Most of the places are managed by great staff to take care of the things you might need. We live in La Iguana and there are a few rentals available in ours on occasion as well as next door at La Sirena.
Great video, thanks for the info 😊 Heading to Akumal Spa and Wellness in just over a weeks time! Noticed that you were cruising around on bikes, is there a place to rent them? Thanks again 👊👊
Apologies for no reply! Didn't see the notification! Hope you got a bike handled. They're pretty much anywhere if you just ask your management wherever you're staying.
Awesome vid, we were there in November and most of these new places weren't there. Excited to try them in a couple weeks. Awesome shoutout to Imelda's it's my favorite place for food ❤ The 7/11 is bumming me out, I don't want Akumal to become commercialized it's like the last slice of heaven on that coast.
Lucky for all of us, Akumal will always be pretty much the same as it is now, but with only small additions for the most part.
Great update vid guys. Been coming to Akumal since 2002...the changes... OMG. Thinking of another run next November to HAC so thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome! Maybe we'll see you around!
This is so useful for orientation. Thank you! Coming here for the first time next month with a friend. Where do you rent your bikes? We're in an AirBnB at Serenis - which is about 4km north of Akumal. Trying to figure out how best to get around. Don't want to hire a car. happy to get collectivos and bum around!
Are you at Sirenis? Or La Sirena? Sirenas is down the highway a little and getting to the beach itself requires a ride. I'd use the colectivo since the taxi rates are stupid expensive. But for bikes, you can try Mexicarte which is right inside the arch entrance as you're headed to Lol Ha restaurant. If you were staying in Akumal or Half Moon Bay there are plenty of places that will rent you a bike. Augustin at Playa Caribe is the guy! There's also rentals at Del Sol, and another guy in the pueblo as well. Sorry for the late reply! We've been a little sidetracked with all this sun :P
How long are you in Akumal? Do you have the names or links of where you stayed in these cities? If you had to choose your favorite, which would it be?
We were here last year for about 5 months and this trip about 4. Our trip down was 3 days with friends in Cuatrocienegas, Cohuila. Overnight in Saltillo, 2 days in San Miguel de Allende, then overnights in Puebla and Villahermosa before 2 nights in Bacalar and 3 nights in Mahahual. Each has their different charm but we loved San Miguel de Allende. Amazing place full of life and such a beautiful city.
@@GoinPlaces Nice! Hope to get to San Miguel de Allende some day!
Wow! We were there the end of October and Jungla hadn't opened yet. We loved Morningstar. Ate there a lot. Great breakfast and at night they had the best margaritas! Imelda's has always been a great breakfast spot but we tried it for her Friday night specials this last trip. Great food! I'm not sure about putting a gym right there. We stayed in Del Sol and they hadn't even started any building when we were there. That may take away some of the peacefulness of Del Sol. Great update!
We won't go to Morningstar anymore after being charged 16% 'sales tax' on what was already outrageously priced breakfast. Chilequiles + juvos rancheros + 2 green juices should never come out to $680MX. Jungla has better food and better atmosphere at half the cost. And no added "tax" that is technically illegal. Highly doubt the peacefulness of Del Sol will be affected. Lots of locals are happy to have a place to go rather than driving into Tulum for a workout. :)
Nice video! I have a doubt about the entrance to the beach. I heard there is a fee?
You WILL be asked to pay to access the beach. That doesn't mean it is legitimate. That said... most places to access the beach are private property so that's where they get you. Simply don't tell them you're going to the beach. Tell them you're going to Lol-Ha for drinks or food, or you're going to Akumal Dive Center (Not the dive SHOP... different place and not ON the beach.) Once you're through the entrance you're on the beach. Make a right and find a spot. ALL beaches in Mexico are public. Which means, you can plop down right near a beach club and nobody can tell you otherwise. Just don't use their palapas. It is very confusing if you've never been here. Driving in you'll have guys telling you to stop and park but they are trying to make a living. Best to find the closest place to park and pay for the day. Then walk into Lol-Ha... have a margarita, or don't... and hit the beach! If you want to snorkel with the turtles, it's almost easier to just pay for a guided tour.
@@GoinPlaces thanks!
Nice video bro 👌🏻
Thanks 🔥
When we did this trip in April of 2021 we crossed at Nuevo Larado. Had the robbery crew working the Mexican side attempt to get us but we out ran them- not sure I’d try this trip again
We researched which was the easiest and safest option for well over 3 months. Never once had any issues and typically... only within about 30 miles of the border, near any major crossings with trucks/semis will be the most sketchy. The banditos are more prevalent around those areas and I never read anything super good about Laredo, which is why we crossed at Eagle Pass.
Thanks for the info! Will be going to akumal in March and good to see Morningstar and Jungla cafe so close to where we will be staying. Did not know about these two places.
Jungla was being built last year about this time and took a bit longer to open than they had expected. It's great having more options this far up the beach road for sure!
Like we needed a 711
After shooting this video I did go in and I will say.... It's far cleaner than the Oxxo. I just went in to see if they had an ATM... they do not.
Thank you for the great update!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks - great update.
Are you really that tall? 😂 It’s really nice to see you’re doing well and happy. Enjoyed the Vlog! Cheers
Taller than Mayans!
Thank you man. You as well! All grown up with babies and stuff lol
I have been following your trip and wondering how it went? Did you arrive in Akumal safely? My wife and I are considering driving to Akumal from Calgary.
I'm sorry for the late reply! Yes! We did.... I never had the chance to edit together another video until... well... now, a year later. The drive down was amazing and I'd recommend it to anyone with a good sense of adventure. J~
Gratitude so good
Glad you enjoyed it
It looks like fun! 👍
It was!
Buen viaje jasoon , disfruten!!!!! Gran talento , saludos 🇲🇽🙌🏾
Muchas gracias amigo! Nos vemos en junio chicos
Hey guys! Saw your video linked in On The Road in Mexico! We returned from an unexpected 80 weeks in Thailand in August and are readying ourselves to drive down to Oaxaca in early March! Looking forward to seeing you adventures!!
Thailand is on our list! Thanks for following and for the comment! Following ya back!
we will be watching every step of your journey and hope we meet up in Akumal in February! safe travels you have helped us immensely!
In 2 weeks we will be traveling from McAllan, tx to Akumal along the same route you are following. We have spent days trying to find dog friendly hotel along the way with minimal success. Plz give us info on how to find pet friendly hotels. Every time we think we have found one we call the hotel and find out they are not allowing dogs!
Hey! Thanks for reaching out... We are using an app called Bring Fido. It's been super helpful and we booked everything up to Bacalar through it.
Bacalar and Mahahual we booked through private or airbnb. We arrive in Akumal on February 1st so make sure to hit us up and we will have a toast to a fun trip down!
@@GoinPlaces so your trip down was smooth!!!??? we have had no luck finding pet friendly places to stay, and even getting the TIP through at the border. we are going through McAllan,Tx border crossing. any info you can get us is greatly appreciated. do you have all your hotels booked before leaving.
@@natalieshigeta2510 we haven't left yet. We leave on Friday. We are crossing at Eagle Pass, TX. It is a notrotiously easy and trouble free place to cross from our research. We are following another traveler who just crossed there not 3 days ago in her way to San Miguel de Allende and it was smoother than expected. Getting TIP and FMM at Allende a few miles after border crossing. As for 180 day visa we have our lease handy with dates just in case but the person I mentioned got 180 days without so much as a glance. I'm not worried
@@natalieshigeta2510 yes... All booked prior to leaving. Bring Fido app guarantees the hotel accepts pets and if it doesn't they will make other arrangements free of charge, as it's their mistake. We have heard only great things about the app. I made sure to check the comments and reviews 9n each place before we booked. Not sure about the McAllen crossing. Eagle Pass seems to be the way to go from our research.
Great first video! My wife and I also love the Riviera Maya and have been to Puerto Morelos five times in 3 years. We also have a Jeep, and I have been getting ready to drive it through Mexico in February, but may have to change plan and fly down again due to other commitments. I can tell by (1) your hat (2) drawings by Ogri on your wall (3) the name of your photo business, that you are also a Motorcyclist. Same here. You guys are like a slightly different version of my wife and I. Awesome.
Ha! Awesome! And yes.... Used to ride a lot more than I do now. Old videos of track days at th-cam.com/users/powergroove75 🤙🤙
Missoula checking in here. Love the video. We hope to follow in your footsteps in a year or so. Best of luck!
Awesome! Thanks for following along... We will make sure to get some of the important info into these videos too for folks like you.
Saw your post on “on the road in Mexico “. Will be following along. Planning similar route soon too. Thanks for sharing your new adventure. 👍🏻
How is your Spanish?
@@RickFidelisReed good enough when it counts
So glad I found your channel right at the beginning of your journey. I’m excited and afraid at the same time, but more so excited! Okay, here we go, I mean you go, I’m actually looking forward to a Monday and seeing your next video! I have a dog too and wondered how to get her across safely. I plan to retire (to Mexico) in two years. I haven’t decided where to plant our feet just yet. Qroo is definitely in the top four. Best of luck to you three, safe travels!
Thanks for watching and following along! Next video will be in a few weeks when we leave!
Subscribing. Sound's like a nice road trip. We love Akumal!
Thank you!
Hell yeah!🤙🇲🇽
Great first episode. We love Akumal and have been going there for years. My father actually lives there year round now. I’m definitely curious about crossing the border with a car and getting down to Q Roo. Best of luck with your travels and thanks for documenting and sharing them with us!
Thanks for the comment! We will definitely be documenting the crossing for sure. So far it seems like it'll be pretty smooth. Glad we aren't going sooner... Lines have been long before the holidays!
Hey guys. We will be staying in the condos on the grounds of Bahia Principe for a couple months early next year. We were considering getting a day pass to the all inclusive but we don’t know the pricing. I see in your video you guys did that. What price did you pay for the pass?
Hi Breton... Sorry for the late reply! Not on this channel much until recently (we are gearing up to drive down to Akumal and vlogging the whole thing!). The day passes we had were $50 at we were at Bahia Principe. That covered all our food and drinks for the afternoon we were there. I would definitely recommend a day pass to Hotel Xcaret too if you have the chance. That place is AMAZING!!! We will be uploading more videos VERY soon....like within days , as we gear up for our road trip down. I'll be much quicker to respond now!
