@@SamStack it was a great trip. What a way to finish the weekend
Super conditions , great video John
@@lukaszdobosz5064 thanks pal
Cool video John. Cracking.choice of music.
I can't claim any credit on the music. Edited in GoProQuik. They only allow one track and it was the longest one they had. lol
Great paddling. Thanks for the video John
A very smooth day.
I'm on TV!

Bouncy times there 🙂
@@AirOnTheWater great fun altogether
@@orupaddler Looks like it 😎
I've got a lot of work today to be that smooth
@@davidpoots8362 happy to help 😁
Don't know how I missed this, it was a great event, great to see your trip.
@@davidpoots8362 something special to be involved in. I still have the map framed and on the wall
So cool! Are you from China/Chinese , did you learn mandarin in school or is studying it just a hobby for you? There certainly aren’t very many Chinese folks or even Mandarin speakers in Dublin
Never been to China. Learning it for fun. Bit of a language and people nerd.
I guess you rolled over and died at then end. FIN
Awesome rolls!
@@Fishaholicboy thanks buddy. Welcome back. Great to see you rolling again.
Hi looking at this soon is there any issue with tides etc or any other information your happy to share..( well used to ocean but I don't know lambay too well )
Love the celebration!
Great video.. love how you kayak together with a large group. Are you using the Rebel Greenland T?
There was hundreds of people in relay going all the way around Ireland in one day. It is a Rebel Greenland T. I love it
@@orupaddler I've been eyeing the Rebel Greenland T.. If I was to get a kayak (not folding, etc), then it would be that!
It's a great boat. I did try the TOC. It's the T with the Ocean Cockpit too. Both fantastic. I love this boat.
ouch I hope it was not too Expensive!!
It was. 😁 recovered very quickly though thankfully
great!
What a fantastic trip... Looks a stunning and fun place to paddle
It is great fun. It can be quite dynamic water in any wind because it is a headland on the east coast. The Baily Lighthouse sits on the edge of Dublin bay. So has a reverse Eddie changing every 9hrs that makes it fun too.
So beautiful, incredible places.
Thank you. And changes every time we are there
Großartige Tour.👍 Grüße von Prignitz Outdoor.

Nice, thanks. Maybe nxt time without music.
More fun with at least some waves. BUT too cold for me. Looks like a great location.
Lambay is incredible. It changes week on week and the wildlife is fantastic. Guillemots, razorbills, puffins and a huge Gannet colony in spring and summer. Deer, dolphins, porpoise the odd whale off it. They even have Wallabies on the island visible from the water. Unusual considering its Ireland and they are native to Australia. 🤣
Nice views!
It was a fantastic start to 2024

Nice John it was a lovely day out 👍
Especially the seals. 😁

Thank you Pam.
Fantastic scenery... now added to my to do list!
Howth is a fantastic trip. Great bird life on Irelands eye in such a small space and lots of fun rock hopping around Howth Head and the Baily Lighthouse

what did I just watch
Great Video John amazing conditions. Must get myself a Greenland paddle too!

Thanks for another super video John. Perfect conditions and everyone has an air of being contented! I was definitely there in spirit. All best wishes and thanks again. Pam
Anyone know of any clubs or groups in south Dublin area. Looking to connect with kayakers I’ve a sit on top sea kayak.
There is East Coast Sea Kayak Club but to join you will need a level 2 sea kayaking cert. For club trips paddlers need sit in kayaks but there are some club boats that can be borrowed. On facebook there are a number of groups like Paddle Buddies where you can join peer paddles.
@@orupaddler thanks a million, I’ve tried a few groups on fb but never heard back. Will try paddle buddies
A super trip. Thank you for sharing it all with us. And what a thrill to see that seal... or was it a marmaid... up so close. Fabulous. I'm totally with you with your Greenland paddle. Excellent. Thank you again. I wonder where on Earth you'll be going next...... Best wishes, Pam
New Video uploading as I type. Rock hopping and Rock Gardening on the coast of County Wicklow. Thanks for the comment Pam.
Really enjoying your vidoes mate. We have subscribed in support! We know how hard it can be to produce good content and get your TH-cam off the ground. We're a small channel too and going through it ourselves. So really wanted to show our support. Keep up the good work! Wish you success
Thanks for the support. I have subbed back. :) To be honest I am only shooting the videos and editing to share with the group I kayak with and some friends
Ah thank you @@orupaddler . Well they videos are great fun to watch, glad you are sharing 🙂
Looks like a beautiful area to paddle and a fun little rescue!
Howth is fantastic. Lots of dynamic water and conditions when the weather picks up
I like that system you have for storing your pump etc. on your foredeck, is it a homemade system? Also, wondering what the wind speed was that day?
The deck pod is from Gearlab. They also do a flat one for greenland rolling. The wind was Force 5 gusting 7. So gusts between 50kmph and 61kmph or around 30kts from the West. Which is offshore wind here on the East coast of Ireland.
@@orupaddler thanks for that, I'll check it out. To be honest, it didn't look like 30kts in the video.
@@mairnealachamu it definitely felt it in the squals. It is coming across land and onto the sea too so it changed depending on where we had building and hill coverage. 30kts was the gusts. It was a steady 21+ kts without the squals.
Everyone is using those Greenland paddles
We have a good mix of euro blade and greenland paddle users in East Coast. More and more people are using the Greenland paddles as they get more accessible. Euroblade paddles are only around since the 1950s or 60s and come from river paddlers. The greenland paddle is around 1000 years or more and actually has more benefits and just as much power as a euroblade.
@@orupaddler I'm sorry, but that's factually incorrect. The so-called "Euro paddle" is based on Aleutian paddle designs with the main difference that it has a feathered angle while Aleutian paddles were flat. Obviously there has been a diversification in blade shapes in recent times, but their origin is unmistakeable. The correct term is actually "asymmetric paddle" and they've been around for at least 100 years at this stage. The Aleutian paddle they are so similar to has been around for centuries and has as much history and heritage as the Greenland paddling tradition. Personally I don't like the term "Euro paddle" as it is not only inaccurate, but seems slightly xenophobic; a term coined in recent years by GP enthusiasts in the US to promote their preferred style by denigrating another.
@@mairnealachamu thank you for you input on the origin of the blade. Thought I have paddled with an Aleutian blade. The low and high angle spoon blade paddles and greenland or Aleutian paddles are all different with their own designs. Like the kayaks from the regions. They all have their own distinctive features to deal with the individual conditions they face. This is something we see around Ireland on the different styles of Currach and traditional sailboats which are vastly different even in a 1900km total coastline. Paddle blades have developed based on use. Nothing to do with one is better than the other. Euroblade paddles were developed on rivers where they were shallow. So you need the full power face is under water where this isn't possible with paddle like a traditional Aleutian or Greenland paddle. The difference then is initial power in a euroblade paddle. Which on rivers is common to have at a zero degree feather. Deep water allows full submersion, you generally don't need immediate power for initial acceleration which is where a GP or Aleutian paddle has its benefits. The Aleutian paddle being asymmetric has a flat side for sculling and rolling where as the side with the rib is better for powerful strokes to stop the blade fluttering and chattering in the water. It is the same with kayaks. You fit the boat to the task. The same as fitting the paddle to the task. One isn't better than the other. They are just task specific.
@@orupaddler good analysis. Very true that boats and paddles all adapt to their uses and environment, hence the wonderful diversity we find. I never said that one type of paddle was better than the other, it's horses for courses, but still there is a lot of misinformation about the history of various paddle designs being shared. I think the subject is worthy of research, and deserves to be shared truthfully. It sounds like you have tried a lot of designs. How did you get your hands on an Aleutian paddle, I've never seen one in the real world, only on film.
@@mairnealachamu there are lots of paddle makers in Ireland using traditional skills to make greenland and Aleutian blades. A friend has one made of cedar.
Amazing footage and excellent edit! Your channel clearly deserves more subscribers, so just subscribed. 😎 I'm a coordinator for an upcoming folding/inflatable kayak event in Stockholm next month (Swedish Air Kayak Day), so also bonus points for the Oru. 😎
Thank you. I only film some trips and should probably make more of an effort. Kind of you to say. I am an Oru kayak paddler too and greenland paddler and roller. More videos coming soon. Best of luck with the event.
Well done on recovering from the capsize (4 mins into the video.) Worth a watch to remind us of how to do it right.
That wasn't me. I am the dry one under the camera. She is an instructor and a very seasoned paddler as is the guy in the blue kayak. Happens to even the pros. No space for a roll in the rocks. Thanks for commenting.
@@orupaddler the woman who rolled over is an instructor ? Does she know how to roll (Eskimo coup)? Does she know how to float on water? Was it a special coup or was it by accident?
@@BelevichAB the capsize was in a cluster of rocks with no space to roll or wait on a T rescue. Safest and quickest option was to swim out
@@orupaddler Yes, I understand you. I can name the reasons for the coup. at 8:04 - the kayak entered the threshold not at an angle of 90 degrees to the cutwater. When she began to slide to the left, he did not roll (tilt) from the flow of water. The flow is the reverse flow (barrel). Also did not lie down on the low brace paddle.
@@orupaddler Flip at 29:56 - the kayak comes nose to the shore. The kayak becomes at 90 degrees to the stream - here you need to make a roll from the flow of water - tilt the kayak to the left - the coup would not have happened. I'm impressed by nature and gentlemen's journey. They are great!
Looks Great guys x
Thank uou
Great recovery!
Amazing, thank you 🙏
