    Thank you for the review. Zero Dawn is a favorite, not just for the game play but for the story. It is disheartening that the sequel has to push an agenda that many find inappropriate both for the game continuity and for family friendliness.

      As another pointed out, ZD had some references to cross dressing and same gender relationships. Until now, I was only aware of a single stone mason that lost his partner. The game didn't make a big stink about the subject, so it didn't make me feel like I was being lectured or belittled. The world is witnessing a dramatic change where tyranny of the minority is guilt shaming and flogging the majority to accept filth as though we should be happy to enjoy a 5 star dinner with only a touch of e-coli and rat poison.

    I think if lgbtq doesn't agree with your worldview the horizon games are not for you. Not only the main character's sexuality but the general normalization of lgbtq people in the tribes. There's a tenakth warrior of the sky clan who chooses to wear women's armor and in more than one conversation you are talking to your quest givers or friends about their partners of the same sex or potential partners. And there's no discrimination of those people by their clansmen. So it shouldn't be a surprise that the main character's first love turns out to be of the same sex as it is normalized in this post-apocalyptic world.

    It is the greatest book ever written with some pretty darn good film adaptations as well (not 1984). It’s exploration on religion and deception which are especially explored in the later books and hopefully the upcoming Dune Messiah movie. It’s one of the most thought provoking pieces of media ever made.

    Before I start, I just want to tell you that it's cool that you show us your perspective on the book, which I think it's quite valid. It is very difficult to watch a movie and to know whether it's been properly adapted or not. You think it wasn't. You read the book, so you do know the story, but at the same time you are also conditioned by it. I haven't read it, and I think it's a fantastic movie, with very rich themes. So: As you said, you do get a FEW references of those themes. About Mentats: yes, that's something that was not explained at all in the movies. About the Bene Gesserit, I did get that they've been using politics as their mode of control for a really REALLY long time. That's quite established (I haven't read the book and also I haven't thought of the Jedis when I watched it). We also got the idea that the Spice is the most important thing for time travel and that also has a drug effect. That's established as a fact more than a theme. I believe a movie has to find one important theme and go around it and I think these two movies show you the idea of What is religion and makes you ask yourself who are you exactly following. The idea of following a Messiah is presented as something catastrophic, and therefore it is telling you that you really have to try to think in your own way (something that might not be said in the movies, but it is in between the lines). Right now there is a Palestine genocide, where we can find some of these same elements, right? Isn't that a more important theme and doesn't that make it way more relevant (it really puts the idea of criticizing a computerized society in second place). With the first part of these movies I wasn't interested in reading the book, but thanks to this second, I am really hooked and I do know this is just an adaptation and that there is way more to find out in the novel. An adaptation is more powerful when the one who adapts shows you his own perspective on the book, rather than just copying what's already been created. All in all, even if we disagree, I'm glad I find this perspective on things, which I think it's fruitful. I do believe it's important to read Science fiction these days. Cheers to that!

    • @stewhv94
      @stewhv94 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@splatter_proto Yeah you got the idea of it, the reverend mother explains it in the first film. They're trying to make a mind powerful enough to perfectly see into the future. Some Bene Gesserit can see glimpses of the future (via spice and other drugs) and they can access the genetic memories of their ancestors, but they can only access the maternal side. The Kwisatz Haderach, being male, can access both maternal and paternal sides, so he has clearer visions.

    Excusing my bitterness, but it seems most christen people seem to believe this movie and the Disney corp cares (at all) about the Biblical view point. Likely they (the writers, producers etc) are too self-centered to think that deeply about it and are merely following the broadest strokes of liberal philosophy. Note: "th-cam.com/video/XDtttUWJdHo/w-d-xo.html" (And rewriting and overwriting several times to boot.) Having ironically long lost touch with their roots from the Walt Disney family and the Congregational church.

    What precedes questions about a movie like this and questions of theology is free will: Do we have 'free will', and can dolls come to life and develop free will? Is there actually any such thing as 'free will', and can Barbie enter the 'real world'? In the case of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus, I'm reminded of something J.R.R Tolkein once told C.S. Lewis before the latter became a believer: "Christianity is a myth that became a reality." In other words, it's not true in the conventional, mundane, that many folks accept as 'reality'; it's supernaturally true. God, through the form of Jesus, came into the 'real world' from the spiritual, supernatural, realm, and changed the world. Can a doll then (what's more a female doll) enter the 'real world' and make a difference;-and is that difference for the better?
