I would be happy if it would be an opportunity for overseas people to know and be interested.

Kagura - This is the first digest version of the "Hiroshima Kagura Activity Resumption Project Hiroshima Kagura: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Special Performance" held at the Hiroshima Prefectural Citizens Cultural Center.
This year's performers are the Hasadake Kagura Troupe from Aki Takata City, and the program is "Yamata-no-Orochi".
“Yamata-no-Orochi"
Once upon a time in the province of Izumo, there lived an elderly couple and their eight daughters. Each year, the fearsome snake demon, Yamata-no-Orochi, would descend from the mountains and devour one of their precious daughters. After seven years, only one daughter, Kushiinada-hime, remains. The elderly couple, Ashinazuchi and Tenazuchi, fearing for the life of their only remaining daughter, were lamenting their misfortune when Susano-o-no-Mikoto, a powerful god, heard their pleas.
Susano-o hatches a plan to be rid of the snake demon using a barrel of poisoned sake. The plan goes like this: Kushiinada-hime would hide behind the barrel of poisoned sake, casting her reflection into the barrel. Yamata-no-Orochi then sees the reflection and, thinking it to be the real Kushiinada-hime, would then devour the sake barrel, thus poisoning him so that Susano-o could then strike the final blow. When the demon appears, everything goes according to plan and Susano-o faces the drunken demon, still powerful despite the poison. After a fierce battle, Susano-o defeats Yamata-no-Orochi by striking a final blow to the demon's stomach.

What can I say about the Water princess...her father was a Samurai...when I was a child I stayed in Japan briefly...I had the same ceremony done to me by Geisha...i was drawn on and then taken to a waterfall to wash off all of the beautiful artwork ,early 70s...I then moved to Australia...I've got something you all need to see...this has followed me my whole life...thats why I call Takiyasha my God...I've always said this...who said God was a man...the one thing that no human will ever take from me...The beautiful water princess Takiyasha...her frogs a bit nuts though...im a strong believer shinto also...I've got some artwork Japan needs to see...and a very true story to go with it...search Google...Jack Raphael...he's also in love with a beautiful Korean lady...problem is though...doesn't speak Korean...I never spoke Japanese either...yet it was all taught to me through art and body language...energy...

Saw kita-Hiroshima Troupe today playing Momijii-gari and Yamata-no-Orochi in Los Angeles. The crowd (myself included) was VERY IMPRESSED!!!! I wish more Japanese opera will be introduced and performed in US.

Thank you for your comments! Most of the performances do not seem to have a textbook, and are passed on by seeing and hearing. I think this is why different performers use different expressions for the same character. Children absorb so much.
