Eyes on the Waves
Figureheads have changed a lot from their ancient beginnings to today's ships, improving with technology and changing various cultures. From charms for sailors, showing symbols of nature, gods, or heroes to express the ship's identity and spirit, but as shipbuilding improved, figureheads became more decorative and influenced by cultural styles.
Over time figureheads moved from the sea to the air and are often simple or missing, replaced by branding on the hulls for modern design and efficiency. However, there is still a revival of detailed figureheads that mix ancient art with modern ideas.
