Habaneras & Tangos | Ricardo Gallén (#MarchVivoCD) · MarchVivo
This MarchVivo recording presents remastered excerpts from two recitals given by guitarist Ricardo Gallén at the Fundación Juan March in 2014 and 2017. The thread linking all the works on the album is the habanera. Although its name derives from that of the Cuban capital, this genre of song and dance had mixed European and African roots. By the late 19th century it had travelled back from Cuba to Europe and seduced half the continent with its sensual, swaying rhythm. Having arrived on ships that docked in the ports of Cádiz and Seville, it discovered its close kinship with tango and was later assimilated by flamenco. The habanera captured the imagination of Spanish and French composers because of its power to conjure an exotic vision of “otherness”, as conveyed here by the intimate voice of the Spanish guitar.

Although the seventeenth-century violin repertory usually has a figured bass accompaniment, a tradition developed in Germany that began to experiment with the instrument’s polyphonic potential. Reflecting this tradition, around 1720 Bach composed his six solo violin sonatas and partitas. Among them is this Partita No. 3 in E Major BWV 1006, in the form of a dance suite, typical of the Baroque p...

In 1927, the Berlin actor Harry Frommermann founded a vocal group that would set a precedent in the intersection between the popular and the cultured in Europe: The Comedian Harmonists. Great performance. Like the unusual combination of guitar & singer.
Isn't 'great bass viol' a better and more precise term for such instruments as this?
Fantástico! Gracias ❤

So beautiful, and with the translation to english I can follow this. And the music is wonderful. Greetings from northern Sweden!
@@staffanolofsson8201 Staffano Lofsson is becaming one of the finest followers of MarchVivo, always ready to appreciate unusual music proposals. Thanks for following our channel so enthusiastically.
What a joy! I had never heard the Bach arranged for Violin - it rang true. I needed this concert after last week - thanks!
I have never before heard this Cello Suite no1 BWV 1007 for violin. And I have never heard BWV 1013 for violin. But it seems OK. Bach had a tendency to rearrange his original works for other instruments. Together with other composers , Matteis, Tartini and Biber, Rachel Podger makes this a tribute to solo violin. Thank you so much!

Magnifique interprétation! Bravo Monsieur!
Nice
Très épatant. Quelle belle idée ce concert concept sur le grand Cole Porter ! Vous êtes de fabuleux musiciens ! Et merci de partager votre art comme cela avec tant de générosité ! Le travail au piano est tellement sensible et impressionnant...
BRAVI TUTTI! I'm afraid I've fallen in love with cellist María Martínez. Just stay out of my way and there won't be any problem. Cheers from Acapulco!
Wow....Superb......BRAVA MAESTRA.....from Acapulco!

dupla magnífica , magistral apresentação . . . tri- legal . . .
Sublime!
Thanks. Just what I needed right now. We'll always have Bach.
🤩🤩🤩
Sublime! I love especially 02:49 Calata alla spagnola
How do they reconstructed the dances steps?
Diana Campoó is also a scholar on historical dance, beyond a dancer herself. He has systematically looked into dance treaties from the past, which explained the steps of the different dances. Applying this information to music composed to be danced from the same period has proved to be very fruitful.
A lovely consert for violin and piano with the theme "Lorca: in memoriam". So beautiful music and very well played! ❤
The Rameau is a stunning piece, eliciting goosebumps, stunningly performed! Thank you for this!
Gorgeous harmonies and timbres ; excellent performances
Baroque instruments are romantically unique. Thank you for keeping them alive. 🌺🌹
Muy original
WONDERFUL
Purcellchopin... Absolutly old fashion.
I like these French suites more than most other keyboard works by Bach. They are more "human". In the English suites f.i. there is a mechanical , relentless atmosphere.
@@christianwouters6764 I agree with your view. This has surely to do with the nacional styles of the 18th century, that linked prototypical French music with dance and galant spirit.
que manera de interpretar la música en piano , me encanto . Gracias Pepe Rivera por compartir tu pasión por la música
Same age as Shakespeare and the two gained fame contemporaneously. This is Dowland at his best.
There's no love song finer but how strange the change from major to minor every time you say goodbye. I just love this rendition and the saxophone solo
excellent dancers and stunning costumes <3 <3 <3
this is so gorgeous!!! <3
Perfection.
Thanks for this excellent performance and the info. part which explains the role of the exoticism as a bridge between west and east's music. Bravo!
@@wolkowy1 We are glad you like it. Given a bit of the historical context of a composition helps to enhance the listening, we believe.
thank you. your performance make the burdens of life more bearable 🙏
Una delicia!
Bravissimi!!!
Is there a complete edition of Galuppi's keyboard works in print? I can't seem to find one. I enjoy his compositions for harpsichord very much. Speaking of harpsichords, I agree, the one the maestro is playing is a nice one and suitably Italian.
@@wilhelm-z4t I am sorry we can’t tell you anything about Galuppi’s editions. You may try to get it touch with Bonizzoni himself (via his agent shouldn’t be difficult). We are glad you enjoyed this programme. Choosing the right harpsichord is part of the discussion when programming these concerts. MarchVivo

Glad these artists and instruments are becoming more prominent, grateful appreciation!
50 years ago I played Dowland (Jane Pickering book) on the guitar. Lutes were nonexistent but once you heard Dowland, Batchelar, Cutting, et al on a lute, the guitar sounded thin and unsubstantial...so I focused on Giuliani.

¡Espectacular!
Exquisite.
Very pleasant. But please consider Scarlatti in future recitals of the Baroque.
We do LOVE Scarlatti, and we have organised several series around him. The last one was “Scarlatti’s fingerprints” (www.march.es/es/madrid/huella-scarlatti)
You will also find a video on Scarlatti on this channel by Miguel Ituarte, combining Scarlatti on harpsichord and on piano (same performer). Amazing!!
